For the fisherman it doesn't get any better- or if you just want to rest & enjoy God's creation this property is for you! London, Kentucky/Woods Creek Lake is located directly on I-75 in Southeast Kentucky and is easily accessed from Southern Ohio, North, South & Eastern Kentucky & Northern Tennessee.
The cabin is located on the southern tip of Wood Creek Lake. The 900 acre lake is a great fishing spot, has two main forks- Wood Creek & Gillis Branch and several other medium long sloughs. The lake is too narrow for pleasure boating & is a 'no wake' lake; swimming is not prohibited but not encouraged. Woods Creek is home of the state large mouth bass record of 13 lbs. 10 oz.
This cozy NONSMOKING cabin offers on the main level a living/dining/kitchen combination, bedroom with queen bed, large bath & utility room. The second level loft has two queen beds and the walkout basement two private full beds and half bath. We were married at Wood Creek Lodge which is only 4 miles from this cottage and rented the entire lodge for our guest. Then were able to enjoy the cottage and boat for the rest of our stay. We are already looking at the calender for maybe early Sept. on going back. You might want to bring extra toilet paper. Caught 1 large mouth bass, maybe will do better in September. Only 2 hrs and 45 mins from where we live and worth every mile.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks for the review, was our pleasure to have you! FYI we only leave a starter supply of paper products. Look forward to having you again!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Great Escape! We had 6 adults and 4 children but we never felt like we were cramped. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed the views of the lake even though it was a bit cold outside. With the extra chairs we were able to play cards with the 6 of us at the table and that is very important to us. We would suggest another tv, either upstairs or in one of the bedrooms downstairs for the kids. The cabin is absolutely gorgeous and was so beautifully decorated for Christmas. Thank you for sharing it with us!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Fabulous Thanksgiving getaway. The home was decorated warm and cozy. The electric fireplace was wonderful. Unbelievable amount of deck space and multiple outdoor areas for dining. The cabin was decorated for Christmas and the lights were on upon our arrival. My parents arrived prior to me and my spouse and we each thought we were at the wrong cabin. It appeared someone was living there. Plenty of extra blankets and pillow were available. The lake was gorgeous, we lucked out with the warm fall and were able to utilize the pontoon boat. Tim was easily accessible and the financial transaction was very smooth. The photos do not do this property justice. This property is a great value for the $. We are hoping to rent this property again in the future. There are several restaurants, shops, etc. only a few miles away and easy to access. The local movie theater was slightly dated, but had new movies and was very reasonably priced. I'd recommend for small children only if parents can closely watch due to multi level decks and proximity of water. Individual with disability could be dropped off at the door and have access to all main living areas and bedroom, bathroom and laundry room all on the main level.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind review! Sorry about the local movie theater...I go to the one in Corbin, KY just about 18 mi further south. I look forward to you & your family coming again! Merry Christmas!

Great place! The description and photos were excellent, but the cabin was even nicer than described, and I think a bargain for the price. We would recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The owner was very helpful and promptly answered emails, texts. And the cabin was well maintained and comfortable. I wish I had another week of vacation to stay longer! My husband wasn't planning to fish because we were going to spend some time at the nearby parks, but once we got there, he definitely wished he had brought his fishing gear! He said that was a great fishing lake.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you Sandy for taking the time to review...we appreciate your comments! We constantly are making efforts to upgrade & will never offer our property to someone in any less condition that we would expect ourselves! Look forward to you coming back!

My boyfriend and I came down from Akron, Ohio to get away for a few days over Labor Day weekend and had a truly relaxing time. The house is great and Tim has thought of lots of little details that make it really warm and inviting. We rented the boat as well and spent several hours out on the lake each day cruising around or fishing. We were practically the only people on the lake. We also met some neighbors (a few cabins down) and spent a few evenings with them. Being on the water makes everyone more friendly. We will be back.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Caroline for taking the time to review! We are so pleased that you were satisfied. We live near the property & personally care for it. Every attempt is made to maintain it in a way that we expect from properties when we travel. Look forward to you coming again!

My husband and I were there with two other couples and it was a great opportunity for all of us to relax and have a great time! The house was the perfect size for 6 people and had everything we needed down to the electric mixer. The outdoor seating areas were amazing and plentiful! It definitely didn't feel like a rental house as it had plenty of personal touches to make everyone feel at home. We LOVED having the dock and the pontoon boat during our stay and especially appreciated the few steps we had to climb compared to some of the other houses we saw on the lake! I am especially grateful that Tim checked his email so he could let us know about that perfect spot the throttle had to be in to start the boat before we spent a couple hours paddling back to the house as we so no other boats on the lake (it was a Friday afternoon...I think we saw 4 or 5 other boats on Saturday)! Although it was not recommended, we did find the perfect cove to do some swimming and floating when the weather cooperated and found the water to be surprisingly clean compared to other lakes I have been in. All of us had a great time and will definitely be back!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the review! It is important to us that our guests be pleased in every way & so glad you were! There are several 'perfect spots' at The Great Escape & the boat throttle is one of them :) Look forward to your return!

This is the second time we have rented The Great Escape and still as happy with the place as the first time. Everything you could possibly need is provided, minus food/beverages, of course. So many areas on the property to just relax and enjoy the scenery. The cabin itself is very clean and well kept. You feel like you are home when you stay there, that's how comfortable the place makes you. We also take advantage of the boat rental that is offered and spend a lot of time on the lake. For sure, this is going to be a yearly trip for us! Maybe even one more time this year with a few more people.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

The property is well maintained. The house has everything you need. We really enjoyed all of the decks, swings and of course the lake. The fishing was a little slow but it is the dog days of summer so that is somewhat expected. We caught fish every time out but had to work a little for them. My son did catch a 6lb catfish from the dock which made his trip. We rented the pontoon one day and really got to get out and enjoy the lake. The boat was a nice option and you get all of this and are only 5 minutes from plenty of restaurants if you want to go out for dinner.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We had a great relaxing time in this beautiful cabin. The furnishings were good and the cabin was super clean and neat. The listin photos didn't really do justice to how good this cabin actually looks----it's looks better than the photos. The beds were comfortable and the quality lines were appreciated. We came to relax and this was a great place for that as there is no excitement, traffic, noise, etc on Wood Creek Lake. We rented the pontoon boat which, in our view, is an essential thing to do as our best times were spent slowly puttering around the lake. We had trouble getting the TV to work, however, and there needs to be better instructions on how to do that so that those of us who are "technically challenged" can watch TV. I would also suggest that some of the old rusted wrought iron deck furniture be removed/replaced in order to maintain the quality appearance of the cabin. Also, for people like us who came to see the lake, it would be more picturesque if a few trees could be removed and the lake view improved from the upper decks....but that's just our personal preference. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Great Escape to anyone who wants peace and quiet and/or loves to fish. We will be back!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
