Our second home is located a block from Donner Lake on five acres in private surroundings, close to I-80 only 3 hours from San Francisco; 5 miles from Sugar Bowl, 10+ miles from North Star, Squaw Valley and Alpine ski resorts.
Our cozy home features:

Year Purchased: 2004
My husband and I have owned our Donner Lake home since 2004. We had skied several years in the area and finally decided we'd like to be a little more rooted during our vacations. It has been such a nice get-away for us, as we make the trip up whenever we can...even for overnighters, but especially for the extended school breaks. We only have trouble leaving the comforts of our second "home". Our kids have really enjoyed the get-aways too, and have really gotten to live the other side of the coin of city living. It has been a valuable addition to our family time together.
Why the Owner Chose Donner Lake
Donner Lake was a perfect choice considering its close proximity to many ski resorts and its calm and beautiful mountain lake surroundings. It's nice being somewhat secluded from the hustle and bustle of some of the other high-traffic resort areas. We initially never dreamed we'd be renting (it is solely our second home), but with our kids getting older and having many obligations in school, we have a hard time seeing the property sit unused when it could be enjoyed by others.
The Unique Benefits of this Home
Aside from the skiing? Summertime is a dream at Donner Lake....picturesque, quiet and relaxing. We enjoy the beach while swimming, waterskiing, jet skiing, playing horse shoes, volleyball, basketball, and BBQing at our home owners association private beach (renters' access available). We spend most of our time entertaining in our home (and hiking up our creek on our property) -- rather, sharing our time with friends and family. We are creating many great memories.... We spend little time in front of the TV (unless we're watching movies) and more time talking! We purposely left our living area TV-free.... and we have converted even the most stubborn of couch potatoes.
