Why the Owner Chose Alton
Growing up on mystical Lake Winnepesaukee, I observed this property from the water only as a boy. On lazy sunny summer days, I would canoe past as a young boy and snorkel the clear water shores for childhood "treasures" like crayfish, fishing hooks and clams. It was part of an old turn-of-the-century lakefront estate. A short window of opportunity to purchase the property came up in 1978. My father bought all that he could. He then graciously bequeathed this portion of the waterfront to me and my young wife in 1996. We purchased a 200 year old excelsior mill that was being torn down in a nearby milltown, had it disassembled, sandblasted and re-designed to be our home on this special spot. I then collected cabin parts from the old summer kid's camps which were being sold off, had those parts cleaned and reshaped to cover the floors, trim, doors and windows of our home. You may be able to identify some graffiti from famous people who stayed at summer camp on this portion of the lake as a child. Floating on the glassy waters reflecting the orange sunset and purple mountains is all I need to reconnect with that wide eyed 12 year old boy of my childhood. Give a call... I could share more stories and secret spots here if you would like.

General Roberts and his family settled here in 1778 and the remaining family remnants have been the patriarchs of the area ever since.
