Perfect home for our first visit to Saugatuck

Guest: Mike (Western Springs, IL)
Date of Stay: 12/27/11 Review Submitted: 12/30/11

This property met all of our expectations and then some! Nick was an excellent source for local recommendations and those we experienced were spot on. The home is very close to many shops and restaurants all within walking distance. It was so inviting we decided to "dine-in" each night we were there. I would highly recommend this property to others. It was perfect for my wife and I along with our 4 year old daughter and our golden retriever. We hope to come back again! Thanks again Nick!

Owner response:Hey Mike, glad you enjoyed the house and your time in Saugatuck and thanks for the wonderful review. Sophia's little work of art was a treat! Good luck with your classes and career. Best to you all. N

Great October Getaway!

Guest: Marcy (Huntington Woods, MI)
Date of Stay: 10/13/11 Review Submitted: 10/19/11

WE LOVED IT! We met our two adult daughters at Nick's place and had a great 3 days. Nick met us at the house and gave us tips on what to do and great restaurant recommendations. The house was much larger than shown in the photos. Everything was clean and beautiful. Nick put fresh flowers in every room! What a host! Lots of beautiful dishes and glassware which really made it seem more upscale. Location was perfect on a quiet street only 2 blocks from town. The gas fireplace was a nice treat to use in the evening. A surprise was that there were bikes to use. . . although it was a bit rainy and wind gusts of 45 miles an hour. Would definitely stay there again. It was PERFECT! We've been to Saugatuck before staying in B&B's, but this was perfect (and less expensive) for the family!

Owner response:Hi Marcy, so glad you enjoyed the house and your reunion with your daughters. Did you guys wind up taking the music CD? I logged on to your website the other day and really like your designs a lot. Maybe one day I'll be your customer! Hope to see you and your family in the future. Best, N

Lovely spacious home, great location

Guest: Alyssa W.
Date of Stay: 10/07/11 Review Submitted: 10/24/11

We had a great weekend in this charming, comfortable and spacious home. It's a very short walk to the middle of downtown Saugatuck. The home is open and welcoming, even nicer than the photos can show. We loved the back yard and porch as a nice quiet get away. The owner was very easy to work with and provided information about the area and suggestions about things to see and do which made our time all more enjoyable. They even provided four bikes for our use. I highly recommend this home!

Great Place

Guest: Mike & Lori (Fort Wayne, IN)
Date of Stay: 09/28/11 Review Submitted: 10/05/11

The home was immaculate and welcoming! It was rainy during our stay, and the fireplace made the room cozy and warm. Nick is a wonderful owner and host -- the restaurant recommendations (Phil's and Ida Reds) were fantastic. The location is ideal to walking to town to shop and/or enjoy something to eat or drink; as well, as walking through the neighborhood to enjoy the architecture of the homes and the beautiful yards. We hope to visit again sometime. Thank you, Nick!

Owner response:Hey Lori, thanks for the choosing our place for your last minute get away and for the kind words here. Hope your recuperation goes well and we see you again. Best, N

Sagatuck vist in September

Guest: Dave B (Hamilton, Ohio)
Date of Stay: 09/22/11 Review Submitted: 10/05/11

We enjoyed our stay at this home. Good location in a quiet neighborhood with a short walk to town. Nice, open kitchen and living room. Rainy weather did not allow for time to enjoy the fire pit but that would have been a plus. We also didn't get the chance to use the bicycles that were available but that also was a extra benefit.

Cottage Cute Outside, Modern and Open Inside

Guest: Traveler Trish (Houston, Texas)
Date of Stay: 09/10/11 Review Submitted: 09/30/11

Much more open space in living areas than photos suggest, and a great kitchen with counter seating and an island. Plus two updated baths. I wish I'd found this place when we had preschoolers because it is ideal, open and on one level plus room in one of the bedrooms for a portable crib. As it was, we enjoyed it particularly because our large dog was welcome. Nick is as much host as owner, greeting us with fresh flowers, a bottle of wine and a CD of great music. His recommendations for things around town are spot on. Two blocks down the hill to shops, galleries and restaurants but the house is on a lovely quiet residential street within sight of an historic church. A great base for exploring Saugatuck!

Owner response:Thanks so much for the review Patricia, it was nice getting to know you and Richard a bit and sharing some laughs at Wally's. You were the first guest to leave me updates of your day's adventures....it was very neat and welcome. Hope to see you again. Best, Nick

Nothing but good things to say

Guest: Tom (Chicago)
Date of Stay: 09/03/11 Review Submitted: 09/12/11

We have looked a couple times online for homes to rent in Saugatuck, and this one really grabbed our attention because of its clean and open appearance. We were excited that it was available the week we were looking to visit. The house lived up to all of our expectations. It is very close to town, and yet far enough away to provide a quiet retreat when you need it. The layout of the home is great for a family vacation - 2 bedrooms and a large, open living area where the family can meet and hang out. We have a young toddler, and especially appreciated the open floor plan which allowed our little girl lots of room to walk around and explore without ever being in danger or far from our sight. The house gets lots of sun light in the early part of the day, and has plenty of windows in the main part of the house for the house to get in and around. I also appreciated the super fast cable Internet. I ran a couple speedtests and was getting download speeds up to 16 MB per second, which made it easy to handle work matters that arose. The house also has above average AT&T mobile broadband coverage. This house will be at the top of our list for our next Saugatuck visit.

Owner response:Hey Tom, wow, what an awesome review....so glad you enjoyed the house and had a good time. Sorry the babysitting didn't work out, Mary was wiped out from starting school. Don't overlook coming up here this fall for a weekend getaway, it's really nice well into November. Hope to see you guys again. Best, N

Fantastic House with Even Better Location

Guest: Jennifer (Chicago, IL)
Date of Stay: 08/13/11 Review Submitted: 08/25/11

My husband, infant son, dog, and I stayed at this fantastic house. The house was clean and neat when we arrived. The location was perfect - it was just a 2 block walk to everything but set back enough that you could enjoy the peaceful, quiet neighborhood. We loved the large kitchen which was stocked with everything we could possibly need (we cooked several times) and of course couldn't tear ourselves away from the fire place. We're hoping to return this fall to see some of the leaves change. Thanks, Nick for all of your help!

Owner response:Hey Jennifer, glad you and Hirsch enjoyed the house and your time in Saugatuck. There's still more to enjoy in the Fall so come back then. Hope to see you again, best, Nick

This is such a great place! The family room/kitchen area is so open. Plenty of room for a family. Also, the location is perfect. It is just 2-1/2 blks from Butler St but yet is still in a quiet area. It was so nice to walk to dinner or the ice cream shop. Thanks, Nick!!

This house was clean, open, airy, and very comfortable. The location is perfect - we were easily able to walk to town for restaurants and shopping. The owner takes great care in cleaning and maintaining the property, and was extremely helpful in answering questions and recommending nearby activities and restaurants. We think you'd enjoy your stay as much as we did!

Owner response:Hey Heidi, thanks for choosing us for part of your vacation and thanks for the kind words here. We now can say we've had a 40th birthday group as guests! Hope the rest of your vacation was good and we see you next year. Best, Nick

Best Holiday Ever!

Guest: Mary (San Francisco, CA)
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 08/07/11

This wonderful home has everything you need for a memorable holiday getaway. Spacious, spotless and delightfully open, it's a quiet, restful retreat just a blink away from downtown Saugatuck with its many shops, cafes and attractions. The four of us had plenty of room to cook, play games, gab and sleep in cool comfort while several incredible July thunderstorms raged outside. There's even a sunroom for quiet time with a good book. Nick, our host, had a treasure trove of recommendations for places to dine, see the work of local artists, sip a snazzy new cocktail and tour the sights. Drop his name to chat with the locals!

Owner response:Hey Mary, thanks for the kind words. You and your family were such a pleasure, you really made us feel great about our place! Did I say thanks for the bowl??? It looks great with the other things in the house. It was nice meeting you all, glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again. Best, Nick

Phenomenal Anniversary Weekend

Guest: Nate (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
Date of Stay: 06/16/11 Review Submitted: 06/22/11

My wife and I have been to Saugatuck several times and have typically stayed at one of the B&B's in town. On this trip we were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and were in town for an extended stay so we wanted something with more space. This house was perfect for us, quiet location on top of the hill yet steps away from all the amazing restaurants and shops that Saugatuck has to offer. Nick the owner of the property was a truly incredible host. I offered several helpful suggestions for how to make our anniversary weekend special. We can't wait to return.

Owner response:Nate, thanks for the kind words. It's always fun and satisfying when guests look to us for suggestions. Glad you had a good time here. Look us up when you return. Best, Nick

We recently stayed at this property in May for a weekend get away. The home is very welcoming and cozy. It's a close and easy walk to downtown Saugatuck. The property owners are friendly and even offered childcare! The house has great space and can easily sleep 6 or more. We will definitely rent this home again. We highly recommend this property!

Guest: Dave (Ann Arbor, Michigan)
Date of Stay: 04/08/11 Review Submitted: 04/12/11

My wife and I loved it. The house was clean and was a lot bigger than it looked in the pictures. We have three kids and the house would be big enough to accommodate six people if we decide to bring them next time. The neighborhood was great and so quiet. Easy walk to town. Nick the owner gave us great recommendations on places to eat. We loved Phil's. Can't wait to come back!

Owner response:David & Christine, thanks for the kind words. You guys looked so excited to be having a get away I'm real glad your stay went well. Bring the kids next time.....or not! Look us up when you're back. N

Girls Weekend in a Perfect Home

Guest: 8078slc (michigan)
Date of Stay: 11/13/10 Review Submitted: 11/17/10

We had a great weekend in this home last weekend. It was warm, homey, very comfortable and perfect for my group of 5 ladies and all our stuff. Nick met us at the door and gave us a tour, recommendations for dinner and breakfast, and a bottle of wine. It is refreshing to actually meet the owner and it's a nice change of pace to be able to call and they are right there if there's a problem. We had trouble with the DVD player, called him, and he was there within a couple hours bringing and hooking up a new one. Our weather was blustery so we spent a lot of time just camped out inside around the lovely gas firelpace, watching DVD's and chatting. Very comfortable! Beds were comfortable and plenty for us. Our only complaint was that one of the bedroom-to-the-outside doors didn't lock, which, of course, as a bunch of girls, made us uneasy. The kitchen was well stocked, it was incredibly clean, and since no one was in before or after us, Nick extended our check-in and check- out times, which we really appreciated. A charming and very comfortable home, I'd like to bring the family here for a summer week!

Owner response:Sherry, thanks for the kind comments. The lock on the handle works, the deadbolt does not, sorry you did not know that. It was great meeting you and your friends and hanging out with you a bit. Sharing the home and the Saugatuck experience is really rewarding and fun to do especially with an easy going, fun group such as yours. Hope to see you again, N

Our family really enjoyed the week we spent at Nick's St. Joseph House in Saugatuck, MI. The house was perfect for us and our 2 year old (there were even board games that she loved playing during our stay). The proximity to town cannot be beat, it was literally minutes to everything, and it was incredibly relaxing to stroll into town for a great meal, ice cream or just to take a walk. Nick and his family were great hosts. I would definitely return to Saugatuck and to the house.

Saugatuck St Joseph House

Guest: Jerry, Carol, and kids (Burr Ridge, Il)
Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 08/28/10

The house is the best, very charming, and well equipped. As described, you can be in town literally in a minute or two and yet have a quiet small town experience at home with a private secluded backyard. We loved staying at Nick's house. As others described, he will make sure you start your vacation right and will share valuable tips if you are new to Saugatuck like we were. The house is quite close to Oval Beach and Saugatuck Dunes State Park plus a short walk to many restaurants and activities. As we walked and drove around the town and surrounding neighborhood, we decided we defintely picked the best place to rent in Saugatuck-really!

Fantastic house and location

Guest: famof5 (MO)
Date of Stay: 07/24/10 Review Submitted: 08/12/10

We had a great stay at the house. It was clean and spacious (bigger than we were expecting) and the location was fantastic. House had a well stocked kitchen for cooking and everything we needed. We stayed for a week with 3 kids under age 6 and had plenty of space. We did bring small air mattresses and put all the kids in the bigger bedroom which worked out great (plenty of space for pack and play too). It was an easy walk into town, to the playground, and to the ferry. We did drive to Oval beach as the hike up the stairs and down the dune would have been too much for little kids to do each day (plus all the gear). The drive to Oval beach took just a few minutes and the beach was great. Nick was accessible for questions and anything we needed (babysitters, where to eat, etc.) We loved Uncommon Grounds and Phils Bar & Grill as well as the BBQ place next to Scooters. Would highly recommend the house.

The 5 of us had a very comfortable stay. Home was open, clean & very close to town & water. Appliances were almost new & a/c was great. We were pleased that all bed & bath linens were included, which saved us from buying or bringing them. We are looking to have a family reunion in Saugatuck annually, & would definitely stay here again.

This is by far the best place we've ever stayed in our many trips to Saugatuck. What a gorgeous home, and the little details like the fresh-roasted local coffee, bottle of wine, fresh flowers, terrific restaurant recommendation and "insider" local information from the owners were the cherry on top! Great, comfy beds, cozy linens, tons of windows and sunlight, the toasty fireplace and amazing kitchen made it such a relaxing and fun stay. Thanks for our best trip to Saugatuck yet! We can't wait to stay here again.

This vacation home was so cute! The location was perfect, close to the town but with just enough distance from any town noise. Bikes were perfect to get around town. The future addition of another 1/2 bath will be a very good addition. Owners were very nice and helpful with suggestions of places to eat and especially great places for morning coffee.
