Manse on a hill

Guest: Jason L.
Date of Stay: 02/24/12 Review Submitted: 03/05/12

We spent our annual extended-family winter weekend getaway at Susan and Doug's slice of paradise. Truly the nicest home we have ever stayed in. The craftsmanship of the log home is unbelievable and the location pristine! We had fresh snow so needed to take advantage of the owner's pickup with studded snow-tires to shuttle all of our stuff from our own cars to make it up the steep and long driveway. It took some getting used-to but after the first couple of times was fun! We opted to leave the driveway un-plowed and enjoyed sledding and even downhill skiing down the driveway! Our kids (all over 6-stairs and lofts not appropriate for infants/toddlers) all enjoyed exploring the beautiful home and grounds. There is only one bedroom on the first level so if your group has more than one person who has trouble with stairs, just FYI. The owners were super-accommodating and easily available for assistance or questions. Without a doubt, the nicest place we have ever rented, hands-down. We wrote a little poem to leave in the guest book and will include it here as well: For the "old or infirm," the website says "no." But if you want adventure, we think you should go... To this manse on a hill, Where the driveway's a thrill, And the view is the star of the show!

Couples Reunion Weekend

This is by far the best property we have ever stayed in. The craftsmanship in this home is not to be compared. The owners are true NH people. They have created a space that is beautiful, warm, rustic, artsy, adventurous and well appointed. We had everything we needed and we felt totally at ease in this home. We have the most respect for this home, these lovely homeowners and their incredible, beautiful property and view. The silence is breathtaking! We cannot wait to see it again in every other season!

Awesome!

There are not enough adjectives to discribe this property. It was far more then anticapated. The sunrises over Mt Washington were spectacular. The house itself was outstanding. The owner was gracious and very helpful. The drive up was definately a challenge and one not to be forgotten. Once the summit is reached the surrounding beauty is breathtaking. I would highly recommend this little piece of heaven.

Southerners go North

Guest: Mike (Delta, Al)
Date of Stay: 09/26/11 Review Submitted: 10/15/11

Stay from 9/26/11 to 10/3---just my wife and I. Wanted to do something different than usual Florida vacation. Arrived on 9/26 at twilight and house accent lights were on---home was stunning and view even more spectacular than imagined. We hiked to waterfalls, covered bridges, and visited small towns, and saw fall foliage. . One day we traveled to Portland, Maine and Portsmouth, NH (shopping good in Portsmouth). Stay very pleasant, home accomodating---on rainy cool day even struck up the fireplace. There was only 2 of us but home can accomodate 10-15. The apples were ripe and brought back some and mother-in-law made best apple cobbler I have ever had. Only negatives were master bedroom mattress and box springs were sitting on the floor(no bedframe) and no drawer space for personal items(there were plenty of closets). Drawer space was occupied by owner's personal belongings which complicated the question---where do you put your suitcase items? All in all would do again!!

Perfect site for a small wedding

Guest: David H.
Date of Stay: 09/22/11 Review Submitted: 10/03/11

We hosted our daughter's wedding reception at this home and could not have chosen a better house for the occasion. The home is unique and beautiful and accommodated the 32 guests without a problem. The grounds are spacious and pleasing with several gardens and lots of good backdrops for wedding photos. The views from this home are spectacular, especially this time of year. We held the reception inside the home and it did not feel crowded. The caterers had plenty of space to work with in the kitchen. If someone were hosting fifty guests, there is a nice level lawn area that would nicely accommodate a tent. We held the ceremony at a nearby location but we could have easily held it on the grounds here. The bedrooms were spacious and nicely appointed. We stayed three nights and found the house so relaxing and comfortable. The owners were easy to work with. I have nothing but positive things to say about this house. My daughter loved her wedding and this house is a big reason why she was so happy with it. I would recommend this home to anyone.

Truly Unique and Amazing!

Guest: Old Man Jenkins (Falmouth, MA)
Date of Stay: 02/25/11 Review Submitted: 03/07/11

We had the time of our life during our week-end stay. The place was as great as the reviews rave! What they didn't mention was that with fresh snow, the property becomes your own private ski resort! Complete with boulders to launch off, glades to weave through, and for the beginner a mountain road (the driveway). We spent the entirety of our days sledding, snowshoeing, and snowboarding. At night (after a relaxing soak in the oversized tub) what a treat the kitchen was to prepare dinner in. The woodwork and craftsmanship involved in building this home and most of the furniture was truly awe-inspiring! I give this property and the owners my highest praises.

Delightful Home and Vacation Spot

Guest: Terry E. (New Brunswick, NJ)
Date of Stay: 02/04/11 Review Submitted: 02/17/11

We celebrated a 60th birthday with all our adult children and this spot made it more special than we could imagine. All of the bedrooms are spacious and unique, and the fireplace, kitchen and living room are all amazing. The views are fantastic - even for those of us who have spent years hiking and traveling in the White Mountains. Doug and Susan, the owners, are such pleasant and helpful people to deal with. We had snow before, during and after our visit and it only made everything more spectacular than we expected. Our cars had a tough time making it up the hill in the snow, but the availability of the owner's truck guaranteed we could get there. It was worth the challenge! Everyone was delighted with our stay. Be sure to have dinner at Tim-Ber Alley in Littleton - wonderful food and really nice people.

A Great Place to Stay

Guest: Phil (Boston)
Date of Stay: 01/21/11 Review Submitted: 01/30/11

This really is a jem of a place to stay, the views and the home are fantastic. The driveway after the snow storm was a little challenging for a 2 wheel drive car, so if your going to stay here in the winter time make sure you have a good 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Mountain Top Paradise

Guest: Monica Awde
Date of Stay: 12/27/10 Review Submitted: 01/30/11

Our stay at this piece of New England heaven far surpassed our wildest dreams. The home is spacious and spectacular. There were so many options for sleeping arrangements for an almost-exclusively adult crowd; not the bunkroom arrangement offered by so many other rental properties in ski country. The kitchen was an amazing place to cook, eat, hang out, play cards and games and spend time as a family. The view was too amazing to describe and no pictures I've seen do it justice. The driveway, which was completely covered in several feet of new snow when we first arrived, went from hazard to adventure as the week went by. In the end, the four-wheel drive trips up and down the mountain proved to be one of the most-memorable aspects of the trip. We all said at the end that we didn't want to leave and that it was the "best vacation ever!" Thank you, Susan, for sharing your "dream home" with us for our "dream family vacation!"

This home is amazing. The owners/builders have created a magnificent space. The views of the presidential range are amazing, but are rivaled by the interior warmth and cozy decor. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and are more than accommodating. I hope to return to this wonderful place.

Escape to a Spectacular Mountain Retreat!!

Guest: 2m (Goffstown NH)
Date of Stay: 10/21/10 Review Submitted: 10/27/10

Spent the most incredible 4 days you could ever imagine, peaceful, relaxing, and breathtaking! Waking in the morning looking at the mountain horizon enjoying a spectacular view for miles. Plenty to do during the day, whether just hanging out at the property or going to many of the nearby places in the Littleton area. Ending the night by the crackling fire, this place is truly paradise. Words and a few pictures can't fully describe the craftsmanship that went into making this incredible home, you have to personally see it yourself. Well worth it! Great restaurants we visited while there, Bailiwicks (great Martini's), Millers Cafe & Bakery (great sandwiches & sweets), and of course an awesome kitchen for cooking our own meals at the property. Bring a car that can get up a steep mountain, nice!

BEST HOUSE IN NEW ENGLAND!

Guest: Mike (Chelmsford)
Date of Stay: 10/09/10 Review Submitted: 10/13/10

Let me start off by saying that words will never portray how spectacular this property is. You have to see it in person. You may never stay in a house like this in your lifetime. And for that, it is worth renting. The number of unique touches that the owners placed in this home are inspiring. Their creativity shines throughout the property - from the swithback driveway with apple trees and vegetable gardens at every turn, to the artistic vision of stone and woodwork within the home. This mountain top retreat has sweeping views of the valley and Presidential range that begs for morning coffee and a sunset brew! This is a guaranteed memorable trip that will change the way you think of building construction and land design.

This house is the most beautiful property I have ever stayed at. The views are stunning! You can see the Presidential range. The decor perfect. We rented this house for a reunion and there was more then enough space for the 7 of us! We can't wait to go back! Please be certain that you bring a vehicle that can easily traverse a steep driveway. Also, I would not bring toddlers because of the loft. I can't say enough about this house. It is clean, luxurious and comfortable. I don't feel that the photos of this house really do it justice.

Recently celebrated a family birthday here. The home is more beautiful than the pictures you see on-line. it is spacious indoors and outdoors. You don't need to leave the property...the gardens both flowers and vegetables are fun to roam. The grounds are perfect for relaxing and communing with nature. There are beautiful hummingbirds that visit window feeders and flowers nearby. Littletown has a quaint town. Hking, biking etc are a short trip from the home. Amenities are plentiful and the home itself is so comfortable, and inviting.

Very comfortable and an easy place to stay. The views are spectacular as only the North Country can provide. Great care was taken to create such a lovely home. Would be cool to have high speed access but don't even know if that is possible up there! Thank you very much.

Owner response:Hopefully, high speed internet will be available this fall. We are anxious to be able to offer this to our tenants!

Recently stayed in this property,,,,,,not only are the views unbelievably beautiful (looks out on the Presidentials), but the house itself is unique and and charismatic. Plenty of space for our group of 9, with lots of flexibilit on sleeping arrangements. An awful lot of creative thought and clearly many hours of labor went into creating this property. I would highly recommend it for someone looking for a little getaway in a beautiful and peaceful spot. Everyone was very impressed with the property.

The perfect gateway

Guest: kak1 (Bellows Falls, VT)
Date of Stay: 03/18/10 Review Submitted: 04/02/10

Five of us, all French natives (four from Paris, France and one living in VT) have just spent three days in this most beautiful home, exquisitely decorated, remarkably situated with a breathtaking view on Mt. Washington. We all needed rest and fun and we had it all. We spent time in Littleton which we found charming and animated. The outstanding kitchen allowed us to cook the most delicious meals. And our enthusiasm has already prompted some friends of ours in NYC to seek a rental for this summer. The owner was most gracious and very helpful and for anyone wanting a luxurious and peaceful gateway, this is the place.

My friends and I (8 of us in total) rented this home for a weekend of skiing in late January 2010. Everything about the place was wonderful... the incredible views, the privacy and solitude, the interior decorating, the huge fireplace and cozy seating areas, the well stocked kitchen... everything was just fantastic. The owners were very accommodating and friendly and made the entire process of renting etc a breeze. My friends and I were absolutely delighted with this home and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an escape in the Littleton NH area.
