Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
Building this home was an absolute labor of love. Lots of thought was put into the details such as how to situate the home for the best views and other details such as the glass doors throughout the interior and the master bathtub with a window view of the forest. I love welcoming new people to this special place and love hearing how they've enjoyed their stay.
Why the Owner Chose Overgaard
I chose to build this home at this location because of the privacy this location offered as well as the views. While very private it is still within 10 minutes of shopping and dining but feels very remote.
The Unique Benefits of this House
This home is quite large with a full kitchen and game room. Very comfortably appointed. Very kid friendly. Special attention to create a cozy pampered experience can be seen everywhere in this home. From the glass french doors throughout the interior to the soaking tub under the window with a view of the forest to the elevated dishwasher so that you needn't bend down to load!

My wife and I were at the cabin for four days and never left the cabin. Views were extrordinary as previously stated and nightime stargazing was fun as well. We stay at condo's and cabins nationwide and would give this cabin a 10 out of 10. Cabin furnishings and layout were for way more than two people. Quality of all furnishings and supplies is high. The communication with the owners was excellent as far as my tedious emails to them evolved. Our deposit was returned immediately. My review would have been more timely. but I can say it is more timely than most other things on my to-do list. We plan on trying to spend some time at the cabin in the winter.

My husband, 2 year old son and I had a fantastic weekend in this beautiful, well-thought-out kid and pet friendly home in the woods. If you are looking for a quiet, private getaway, or a weekend to spend some quality time with friends and family, this is your destination. The home is super comfortable yet spacious, with unique antiques and decor everywhere you turn, in just the right places. Who can complain when it's 85 degrees in Heber and 105 in Phoenix? And don't forget to do some star gazing at night - they are spectacular. Thank you for having us, and for the memories... (were those elk tracks we saw in the front area of the house???)

My wife & I rang in the new year here with 3 other couples and couldn't have chosen a better place to get away from Phoenix for the weekend! Directions were perfect, even at night. House was immaculate and beautiful. View is breathtaking, even in winter! There are no other houses nearby, so privacy is ensured. Really enjoyed the living areas in the house, and the guys were able to play pool and darts downstairs in the game room while the girls had some girl time upstairs. Found a gas grill on the deck on the main level PLUS a charcoal grill on the patio downstairs so did lots of grilling out. It was (very) unusually cold while we were there with lows of 12 below zero at night - but gas heat and an indoor woodstove meant it was nice and cozy inside plus, even with 8 people, we had what seemed like unlimited hot water :). Thank you for supplying so much firewood! We got some great fires going in the woodstove and in the Chiminea outside on the deck. Had some fun romps in the 18" of snow during our trip too - snowball fights and some comical failed attempts at sledding! It all made for great memories, and we're looking forward to visiting again during the summer.

Thank you so much for this wonderful place! I was up there for a Girl's weekend and had such a fun, relaxing time! The cabin had plenty of space for all of us...it was very clean and well-maintained...very easy to find...it was so quiet and relaxing....I love to be outdoors in nature so it was the perfect spot for a little meditating as well as some good times with great friends! I would definetely recommend this to friends and relatives! Actually, I am a fitness trainer so someday I'd love to have a weekend retreat here! Lisa

This is my first time using a vacation rental and I can say that I will use vrbo for all of my vacations in the future. Any inquiries or questions that I had ALWAYS came with an immediate response. Arlene and Anna were very easy to get a hold of whenever I needed anything. I was actually very surprised that the cabin was able to accommodate our huge group (which included 3 dogs!) so comfortably. We thought that since our party was so big we would surely need to bring extra pillows, blankets, towels, etc. We didn't need any of them because everything was provided for! Arlene even left information about local stores and maps in case we needed any help finding our way around town. When we weren't relaxing at the cabin, we were at Woods Canyon and Willow Springs lakes which were only about a 15 min drive away! Thank you so much for a fabulous weekend...I can't wait to come back!

Just returned from a week in the pines and I must say, it was WONDERFUL! The home is beautiful. It was much larger than I expected, but maintained that homey cabin feel at the same time. I appreciated how comfortable and clean it was. Beautiful attention to detail. We read, watched TV, visited both Black Canyon lake and Willow Springs, took long walks. Thanks for everything! We'll definitely be back!

The directions the owner provides to the home are spot on, take her advice do not try to find this home unless the roads are dry and it is in the day light. Upon arriving the first thing one will notice is the large amount of metal stairs that must be climbed to enter the home and the fact that the BBQ is under the upstairs patio requiring you to carry your food and cooking supplies down those stairs if you plan to cook-out and then bring everything back up the stairs to eat the food. There are no provisions to eat on the same floor as the grill. Yes, there is a back entrance. One must walk up a rock filled hill to get to it. We found dog mess from the prior renters all over the hill when we arrived. The entertainment room that is shown on the advertisement is a definate plus when deciding to rent. However, once you arrive you learn there is no way to get to it unless you climb the flights of outside stairs to the outside entrance. This is very dark in the evening. We had hoped this would be a fun area to enjoy. However, with the darkness and stairs there was not much interest in using it. As well, there was only one cue stick one could manage to use to shoot pool and all the darts were damaged. We did find darts at the third place we went to in Heber and left our new ones behind in hopes that someone might get to use them and keep them in good shape. We could not get the TV to operate with the satilite when we arrived, (there is only one in the home). We phoned the owner who was very nice to talk to. At the time she explained she had just hired a new cleaning crew. We did not realize how valuable a piece of information this would become until we check-out and found her cleaning crew doing everything they could to prove their worth to her. The created some pretty silly claims against us in an effort to show her their worth. Although we washed and cleaned most everything, even vaccumed, their relentless calls and claims of unfounded damage forced us to surrender our deposit. If you stay here take pictures of everything so you have some power of proof against them when you check out. I had some pictures however, they did nothing We will say the master bedroom, although beaming with sunlight at 5:00 a.m., had one of the most comfortable beds we have slept in for a rental. Ask if the septic leak in the side yard has been repaired did not smell so good at times. Would recommend staying with extreame caution.
Owner response:This is the first time we have ever had a dissatisified guest and the first time we have ever had to retain any part of a any guests security deposit. We hesitated to do so due to concern that it would result in a bad review but after consulting with other trusted associates in the hospitality business I knew I had to follow through and hold the deposit despite my concerns about the potential bad review. This guest simply didn't want to be held responsible for the consequences of their own actions. However, given the amount of damage they left to appliances, carpet, furniture and decor I had to retain their deposit. Within 48 hours of their check out I submitted to them a full written report of the damages from the cleaning service. Our cleaning person was the same person that cleaned before they checked in so there was no question regarding which guest caused the damage. Unfortunately, the bulk of the review they left is not a fair representation and so I need to repond to some of the other details as well. We advise people not to make their first trip at night because they may not be able to see the road signs, however, people do it anyway and to a person all our feedback has been that the road is very easy to travel. Additionally, we service the septic every year and have never had a problem with odor. We do keep the gas grill BBQ on the lower deck so that the occasional winds that hit the upper deck do not cause damage and when the outside lights are turned they are fully lit. Regarding the pool table sticks and darts, we've asked our cleaning service to check these each time they clean and have purchased extras to have on hand in case any break during a guests stay. There are stairs to get to the upper deck (which has an amazing view) but please feel free to park and enter through the back where you only need to walk up 2 stairs to get into the property. From there you will be level with the front deck and wont need to climb any stairs to get to it. Regarding the dog mess, we ask our guests to clean up after their own dogs and also have our cleaning service double check. The damage from this guests dog, which constituted part of the reason for holding their deposit, was the only mess we could find. We are very sorry to have had this negative experience. We love our guests and love sharing this home with them and take great pride in going the extra mile. We value the trust you place in us and will continue to strive for excellence!

After taking the boys to this cabin, no other cabin or hotel room would compare. The entire house from the kitchen to the bedrooms has anything you might need. Just pack your clothes and you are ready to go. It is so spacious and the view from the floor to ceiling windows was breathtaking. The boys could have stayed in the house and surrounding land all weekend, but we did venture out to fish in 2 different lakes and even went horseback riding! We will be back this summer and wouldn’t stay anywhere else! Thank you for thinking of the little extras that I’ve never seen in any other cabin.
