Hibernation is a beautifully decorated 4 bedroom, 3 bath cabin located at the top of Double Knob Mountain in Ellijay, GA. With the addition of two futon beds (one located in the loft and the other in the spacious basement den), Hibernation will sleep up to 12.
With an open floor plan on the main level, you can enjoy spending time with friends and family while cooking meals in our fully-equipped kitchen or just sitting at the island bar. If you are into star-gazing, you’ll love spending time either on the main level deck or upstairs in the spacious loft with a telescope.
Only 90 minutes from Atlanta, GA and Chattanooga, TN, you are in for a special treat year-round. Whether your heart desires to see the beautiful Fall leaves, a white blanket of fresh snow, or the lush green trees of Spring and Summer, you will not be disappointed. And whether you are looking to share times with family and friends or a special vacation with a spouse or partner, you’ll make plenty of memories around our cozy wood-burning fireplace.
Hibernation is a great family retreat. Children of all ages love the spacious basement den equipped with DVD’s, board games, dress up clothes, coloring books, etc. They also enjoy taking hikes, exploring nature and making s’mores in the chimnea on the main level deck.
If you want to explore the areas around the cabin, the options are limitless. Downtown Ellijay and surrounding quaint little towns such as Blue Ridge, Hiawasee and Blairsville, offer great shopping and excellent dining from causal to fine dining. If you want to enjoy the outdoors, there are two large lakes in the area – Carter’s Lake and Lake Blue Ridge. Both offer all types of water sports and beach areas to swim.
Clear rivers and trout streams offer the outdoor enthusiasts abundant fishing, as well as rafting, kayaking and tubing in the rivers. Waterfalls are also a great way to enjoy the North Georgia Mountains, along with horseback riding and even gold panning. And with the Appalachian Trail and other hiking trails nearby, you won’t get bored with the scenery.
If you are visiting in the Fall, plan your trip around the 2nd or 3rd weekends of Fall so you can enjoy the famous Apple Festival. With hundreds of craft vendors, lots of food choices and activities for the kids, you can’t help but have a great time!

Rate Details (In US Dollars)
2+ nights = $185/night + $50 cleaning fee
1 night = $225/night + $50 cleaning fee
50% deposit is required when making reservations. The balance is due
14 days before arrival date. Deposits will be returned for cancellations
made more than 21 days to arrival date, minus a $50 cancellation fee.
No refund offered for cancellations made 21 days or less to arrival date.

Hey there! This is a picture of my husband, our two daughters and me on the square in Ellijay for the July 4th Parade. We started renting cabins in Ellijay about two years ago because we loved how close it was to our home. It's about an hour and 45 minutes from us, but you feel like you are miles away in a completely different world. We fell in love with Ellijay and the surrounding towns and decided to quit renting and purchase our own property to build on. We found one of the most sought out views in Ellijay -- the four layers of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We completed the cabin in December 2008 and have spent almost every weekend up there enjoying our second home and making it a great place to retreat. We have wonderful neighbors up there and are always there to help you with anything you need. We recently had the opportunity to see a Mama Bear and her cub right underneath our main deck. The bears are relatively calm and used to humans, but please, still take caution! No matter what, they are wild animals. My daughters love looking for bears, flowers and a fox that also has made a home near our cabin. During the cold season, we enjoy sitting around the fireplace playing board games with the kids or making s'mores either in the fireplace or outdoor chimnea. We have also enjoyed the warm season and have spent a lot of time on the rivers tubing and swimming at the nearby lake beach areas. We named our cabin Hibernation for a reason. As an active family, we are constantly on the go. When we head up to the cabin, we slow down and are on "mountain time". I swear my blood pressure drops as soon as I see the mountains on the horizon on the drive up! This has been an incredible investment for our family life and we are excited to share our cabin with you! We hope you love it as much as we do!
