wonderful experence!

We just returned home after spending 4 wonderful days in this home! We have traveled to the Hills every year for the last 19 years and decided we didnt want to stay in another hotel. I rented this home not sure what to expect. From the moment we arrived it was the most amazing vaca we have ever had in the Hills. My kids are older and we do not do all the touristy attractions. We go to spend time together and that is what we did. The home was beautiful and secluded enough to give us all the privacy we wanted. We spent time just relaxing on the wrap around porch, playing games and grilling! We did travel to Deadwood one day and from this home, it is a easy trip. Also close to Hill City and Keystone. We sat in the mornings and drank coffee and enjoyed the beautiful view. In all ways this was just a wonderful experence and we definatly did not want to leave. We hope to return soon! I would highly recomend this home to anyone, plenty of room and every thing you could possibly want. 5 star all the way!!

Friends share a vacation...

Two couples and a single (five adults in all) made this our home for a week this past summer. It was a great central Black Hills location for our explorations and it had every ammenity you could ask for. We loved the setting, the wildlife that paraded by, the silence at night and the room for relaxing. It had plenty of parking, plenty of room, and was located near many attractions - allowing us to go our separate ways with ease. The only negative comment heard from anyone in our group was the adventure in finding the property - we all got lost before finding the spot. The directions could use a little revision..as some of the road names have changed a little recently.

Owner response:Hi Everyone... This is the first time someone has had a problem with the directions I've sent. Streets are plainly marked and approx. mileage is included (to the next road). Have had a few people not able to find it on GPS, but I've told them the nearest "intersection" ....which is also on my direction sheet. And use Rapid City....not Hill City to input. Even though we're about 45 minutes outside Rapid. I'm going out in September and will use "my" directions....and update if necessary.

Great Trip!!

We stayed in late May 2010, and it is a very nice house!! The views are GORGEOUS!!! The pictures on this site really don't do it justice!! It was very out of the way and very close to Pactola Lake--which is incredibly beautiful!! The decks are really nice and the smell of pine is always there. The basement was great so the adults could be upstairs and the kids could play/watch movies downstairs!! It was a great family getaway!! My only complaints is the game table needs a THOROUGH cleaning and the carpet in the main rooms is dated, but not everything can be perfect!! We had a fabulous time and would definitely stay there again!! Thanks for the wonderful memories!!

Had a great time at this beautiful location

We stayed here for a family vacation with three different families totalling 12 people. We had a geat time! The accommodations suited us well with lots of space to spread out. We loved the deck space especially for evening suppers! The lodge was well stocked with all that we needed. The beds were all quite comfortable as well. All in all, this was a great place to stay for our family get together! We had a great time and would recommend this lodging to others!

Wonderful Vacation Home (7/19/2009 - 7/22/2009)

Our family of 5 adults and 5 grandchildren couldn't have asked for a more ideal vacation home. After touring all day, except one (which was peaceful), the home was very appealing to the chidren and adults alike. The house was very comfortably zoned for everyone to entertain themselves with the games from the closet, to read, and sit on the decks late at night and enjoy the stars and the sounds of the night. We even saw the space shuttle go overhead. You have a wonderful home in a great setting. Thank you for sharing it with my family.

Great time in the Black Hills!

What a fabulous time we had at this vacation home! We really appreciate you opening your home to us and letting us enjoy all that the Black Hills has to offer. The house was great for our 4 adults & 5 kids. Plenty of room to spread out, relax and enjoy the scenery. The accomodations were very comfortable and there wasn't one thing that we were lacking. All the comforts of home. Pactola Lake was a big hit with the kids. The water was clear & cold, but that didn't stop us! I hope to be able to come back some day and I will definitely tell all our friends to check out your house if they are planning a trip to SD. Thanks again! James & Stephanie

Awesome Black Hills Adventure

Guest: Mike and Lila (St. Michael, Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 07/19/08 Review Submitted: 02/22/09

Home base for our Black Hills adventure in July of 2008, was this outstanding residence perched upon a glorious mountainside. The views were wonderful and the accomodations were everything promised- clean, comfortable, and well maintained. My family made the journey down the mountain on a new trek each day. The property is convenient to all the Black Hills attractions. We spent a lot of time in Hill City where we had good meals, rode on the train, and spent time shopping. The weather was beautiful with only one day of rain. We took in all the attractions, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer Park, Bear Country, etc. The location just made all of this possible in a weeks time. We spent a morning trout fishing just north from mountain place, and then having fresh grilled trout for lunch. The afternoon was spent at a goldmine and we even panned for gold. The wildlife on the Needle was outstanding as it was also in Custer. The kids really liked the Alpine slide and mini golfing under the black lights back towards Rapid City. They told me not to forget to tell you to check out Cosmos, it was a neat experience for everyone- something really different. Helen did a fantastic job of outfitting the residence with all the comforts of home. The best way I can put it is that we made an effort to get back to the home in the evening because it was so relaxing and comfortable. We played hard during the day, and the quiet restful evenings invited us back each night. Each night we spent family time grilling out on the deck overlooking the valleys, playing board games and listening to music. We even had a little foosball tournament. My teenage children were quite impressed with it all. They loved the stars at night and the occasional deer that passed through the property. My father had just passed away a few weeks before our vacation, and this home made for a worry free place to get away from the distractions of home. We really could not have asked for anything more. The Black Hills is really underrated- it is just so, so beautiful. Helen's home in the mountains really was not just a nice place to stay, it was part of the vacation.

Wonderful "all American" experience

Guest: John, New York (Rochester, NY)
Date of Stay: 06/28/08 Review Submitted: 02/23/09

Our stay at this incredible home was truly a family experience of a lifetime. The idea came from my inlaws & mother's desire to see the Black Hills area& Mt Rushmore. So for Christmas last yr brothers & I pooled together to give them this gift. House was awesome as it need to accomodate 4 different families with 4 different lifestyles, sleeping habits & special medical needs. Easy in & out - 3 steps. We saw turkeys from the decks every day & had the resident mule deer stop by each morning as well. Birding was cool with lots of varities. House was perfectly located between all the major attractions. Incredible to see the 4th of July fireworks from top of the mt 20 miles away. Fishing great, too, just 5 min away. Saw the Bighorn sheep each morning on my way to fish as well. No finer accommodations than this lovel home. Hopefully we'll come back again someday. Thank you for welcoming us into your home.

Our extended family had a fantastic time at this Edelweiss Mountain cabin. We enjoyed the seclusion and the great views from the cabin. The views from the two private decks of the master bedroom were especially nice. We enjoyed the fireplace in the master bedroom and watching lightning storms and sunrises from the balcony. The lowest level of the cabin was a great place for the kids to get away (with their own TV, foosball, games, etc.) The cabin is very nicely located for visiting Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer Park, etc. We will definitely come again if traveling in the area.

From their e-mail: Helen, just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had at your home. Your home there is beautiful, more than we expected. I took a lot of pictures and will be telling others about your place. We all hope to come back next year if it all works out. Thanks again, and if anyone would like our opinion, you could use this as a reference and they could call us, too: 701-775-5144. Thanks again. PS Some of my family members wrote in the guest book there, too.

Hello, A quick update for our guests. A new oven/electric flat-top range was installed last week. We've also put wood laminate floors in the spare room, kitchen, halls & bath on the main level. Be sure to let us know if there is anything that would have made your stay even more enjoyable. Warm regards, Dean & Helen Hermanson

A beautiful warm cozy cabin with a breathtaking view. The snow was magical. The kids loved roasting marshmellows and sipping hot cocoa by the fire after exploring the hiking trails. We couldn't have choosen a more perfect place to spend the holiday!

It is so gorgeous here today that we all cam back early so we could enjoy the view from the deck. So we are here sipping drinks on this cool autumn evening watching the sun set amid the beauty of the Hills. Pictures of your cabin on web site do not not do your beautiful dwelling justice. We were all so comfortable and felt like we were in "God's Country". Thank you for letting us use your comfortable home to re-energize our batteries!
