In August of 2007 this beautiful home was rescued by a local architect and his family. They took great care in restoring it as near to the original wonderful home as possible. It still has many windows with the original "float" glass plus many of the doors have the crystal door knobs from the 1918 home. They installed many updates to bring it up to modern standards by putting in two new central air conditioning systems to include new duct work throughout. The kitchen was totally gutted and redone with luxury in mind to include: custom cabinets, granite counters and stainless appliances. The home is 3 levels with the bedrooms on the bottom and top levels.
This home is perfect for anyone wanting to be near Auburn University!! It is just two blocks from the campus on East Samford Avenue. It is also just one block from Amsterdam Cafe, one of Auburn's more unique locally owned restaurants, plus in the same block you will find a convenience store and a bookstore. Downtown shopping and more restaurants are about three blocks away.
This home would also be perfect for a family reunion so that everyone is together in a home setting or for the family of the bride or groom coming for that special wedding time...
For the Golfers this area of Alabama is noted for its fabulour golf courses. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is about 15 minutes away plus there are at least four or more well known golf courses for your enjoyment in Auburn. We would love to have you for an extended stay while you play golf and just relax!!
If you prefer to just stay at the house, let us know and we can have the refrigerator stocked for you. One of the owner's daughters is a Chef who attended Culinary School at Faulkner. She is available to cater your meals or cook for you at the house. She also makes football themed cakes that are perfect for any tailgate!
We are hoping that we can also cater to the people coming to Auburn to interview for jobs or to visit their children, etc. This home is also available for graduation. It will be available seven days a week for rent should you need a weekend or a month or more. Come visit us often!!
There is an extra large porch all across the front of the house with rocking chairs for relaxing and people watching. We have had several calls already from gentlemen who lived in this house during college. Several members of their fraternity leased it for many years beginning in the 1980's. They have looked at our pictures and are anxious to see how it has been restored.
This home was built in 1918. An Engineering Professor from AU bought it out of the Sears catalogue and had it delivered to Auburn via train. It arrived in two freight cars with a leather bound book of instructions. It is fun to look at the angles and non plum walls in the home. It has so much character!! This professor lived in the home with his family until the 1930's. It was then sold and passed down from professor families until the 1980's when an investor from Atlanta bought it and turned it into Student housing and built student apartments around it on two sides.
In 2007 when the architect's family bought it, they had to have the city divide it out from the apartments because the owner was trying to turn it all into condos with this a part of the whole. Their heart's desire was to restore it to a piece of beautiful history. We feel like you will agree that they did a great job when you join us for a visit. You are very welcome to come see us anytime you are planning a trip to Auburn! Come once and you will want to come many more times!! You are welcome anytime...
*** please note that some of the furniture in the pictures may be different upon arrival as we often re-decorate :)

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2007
Joe Ruscin is a local architect. Cyndi has a real estate office, Ruscin Realty. They moved to Auburn in 1991 for Joe to attend Graduate School in Community Planning at Auburn University. Joe has his architecture degree from Texas Tech. They lived in Texas before moving to Alabama. Cyndi taught school before they moved to Auburn. After Joe finished grad school here, Cyndi took her real estate classes at AU and has enjoyed helping people so much with their real estate needs through the years!!
Joe and Cyndi bought this home for their youngest daughter to live in for college and beyond. That daughter Elisabeth is an Art Major so between the three of them, they have had so much fun choosing all of the renovations for the home. Their married daughter, Melody, also lives in Auburn and has a Culinary Degree and would love to make meals, cakes, etc. for our guests. All of us would love to meet you and share our home with you!
Why the Owner Chose Auburn
We bought this home due to its close location to Auburn University and to rescue it!! It is a historic home that had fallen into disrepair and needed some tender loving care. We have enjoyed restoring it and are anxious to share it with you.
The Unique Benefits of this House
This home is so close to the university that it offers you convenience to walk to the university or downtown. It has extra large rooms for relaxing and unwinding after a big day. There are so many locally owned places to eat nearby and the Jules Collins Art Museum is only a few blocks away as well. There is even a Momma Goldberg's deli right down the street! We would love to help you find neat places to go eat and unique places for entertainment. Auburn also has a Water Park open during the summer that is great for relaxing and fun as well.
The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is very near as well as several public and private golf courses in the Auburn area. I was told that people from all over the world fly into Atlanta and rent a car just to come play the Golf Trail. There is one in Opelika, one in Prattville and one in Birmingham -- all near enough to just make this your central location for a week's long stay...
Lake Martin is also less than an hour's drive where you can fish and water ski, etc. Montgomery is less than an hour away with the most wonderful live productions of Broadway plays at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Just ask us and we would be happy to help you get reservations to any of the nearby events. Thanks again for visiting our home!!
