Location: Uvita, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, Central America
Accommodations: Estate, 4 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 4.5 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Keywords: Estate
This 15 acre private property, completely surrounded by a 2,500 acre preserve, abounds with natural wildlife. Located 750 feet above and a mile and a half back from the ocean atop a jungle ridge it offers 360 degree views. From the 2,500 sq foot deck hear waves breaking and spot breaching humpback whales in Latin America's first national marine park - Marina Ballena. From this spot one can watch the sunrise over the preserve and the famed whale's tail with anticipation. At night, we are fortunate 2 view only 9 small lights and not the entire town of Uvita. On a very clear night one can see all the way to Drake with the naked eye. On the other side of the main house the densely canopied valley rises sharply to 4000 feet. There is a beautiful river which flows by the property and runs down from these mountains. This unique connection between mountain and ocean allows for the diversity of wildlife we have at the property. The house abuts primary forest from which 3 species of monkeys loiter, sloths, anteaters live, Toucans nest in dozens, poison dart frogs hop and over 300 species of birds inhabit at various times of year. This is a naturalist's paradise.
Architecturally the house is described as simple elegance where Bali meets Costa Rica meets American building standards. The house is described as a tree house, as a mountain home, and a beach house all in one. The house was completed in 2007 and was built of 3 types of hardwoods. In additions to staff housing there are 3 main buildings - the main house, the spa suite and the office/ media room. Each guest room is supplied with 300 thread count sheets, plush bath towels and spa soaps and lotions.
We pride ourselves on excellent service. Included in the price of your stay is full time staff. Our staff is available to help make your stay enjoyable by supplying laundry service, breakfast, and daily housekeeping.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
With our young daughter, we travel throughout Latin America’s ecological hotspots working on conservation projects with our US public charity. We use a unique combination of flight and film to bring new perspectives to people and governments about the management of critical ecosystems.
Costa Rica is our base and Camp David is our escape - where we slow down, recharge our batteries and take time to enjoy the natural beauty we work so hard to protect.
Why the Owner Chose Uvita
My husband is a pilot and has flown both coasts of Central America. He is also a lifelong conservationist. Hands down, for him, this is the most beautiful coastline in the region. The mountains meet the ocean and the environment is still very well preserved.

Our 8 day stay here was absolutely wonderful! This house is architecturally stunning, made from beautiful woods with great open-air showers and a fully equipped kitchen. We have stayed in quite a few amazing vacation homes and this is no doubt one of the best. Jordan and David have made it very homey and personal but also perfectly amenable to guests coming in for a short period of time. It was so nice to have Guiselle come by every morning to clean up a little around the house - she was always around if we needed anything but stayed out of our hair as well. Jordan was also incredibly helpful from connecting us to the visitors center for car rentals to getting the fridge repaired immediately during our stay. The house is ideally situated between Uvita and Dominical. While there is lots to do in the area, we really enjoyed staying on the property watching the monkeys and toucans in the trees, enjoying the hillside view of the Pacific Ocean and swimming in the beautiful pool as well as hiking a little around the property. Highly Recommended!

Wow - this property was even better than we could have imagined. Beautiful, peaceful, lovely - it was the perfect combination of nature observation and relaxation. We were a party of 4 (2 couples) and found the property to be plenty spacious. The house was impeccably clean and well-maintained. For days we simply marveled at the construction and design. It is beautifully decorated and has a well-supplied kitchen with all the essentials. We were pleased to find a french coffee press, and the owners allowed us to use their pantry essentials so one does not have to worry about purchasing every single little item (like spices). There is a table on the deck, so we ate outside every meal. The grill was nice, too, and we purchased local seafood to cook for dinner. The pool is lovely. The estate workers (the caretaker and gardener) were extremely helpful and yet unobtrusive. The caretaker checked in with us daily to see if we needed anything. The estate is gated and the caretaker's house is visible from the entrance. The main house and associated buildings feel very private and secluded - you cannot see these from the road. A major goal of our trip was seeing wildlife, and we saw many things on the property and in nearby parks. Howler monkeys, toucans, and an agouti were around the property daily. We also saw a tyra, a baselisk, the blue morpho butterfly (plus several others), a poison arrow frog, a marine toad, and several other things on the property. We also enjoyed hiking in several nearby parks - esp. Hacienda Baru. The beach is a short drive from the house and was fairly empty (we visited in February). I was glad to be staying up on a hill away from the beach to take advantage of the lovely breezes and shade afforded by the jungle. We did rent a car - I think it would be tough not to if staying here (or any home up away from the coast). We felt perfectly at home and safe throughout our stay. Finally, the owners were helpful and responsive. I received several preparatory notes, and the owner even offered to pick up some groceries for us in anticipation of our visit. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to experience jungle, nature and beach in Costa Rica. In fact, we have already recommended it to several people. We would love to return to Costa Rica and to Camp David sometime soon.

This place is simply magical! We loved our stay at this property. In perfect harmony with its surroundings, this property truly combines luxury with nature. The home is wonderfully appointed with comfortable beds, quality linens and subtle touches of elegance throughout. Each morning we were awakened by the sounds of howler monkeys in the nearby trees and the sight of blue morpho butterflies floating by our bedroom window and in the afternoon we lounged by the pool watching the toucans play in the trees. The most amazing experience during our stay occurred while sipping our morning coffee on the beautiful deck overlooking the Pacific ocean and Marina Ballena National Park- a pair of ornate hawk eagles flying wing tip to wing tip swooped up through the trees and flew by my chair, close enough to touch them! I felt truly fortunate to have seen not one but two of these rare birds!

This is a gem of a home that is visited by monkeys, flocks of toucan, large toads and more! It was lovely and well-maintained. There are many wildlife viewing opportunities nearby and the beach is only about 15 minutes away (though in view from the deck). You will want a car and the dirt road can get challenging if rains are strong. The pool is a freshwater pool with a waterfall feature at one end. The family that lives on the estate is a warm and lovely one. You will never want to leave the deck in the morning! (2 of the 4 bedrooms are not air-conditioned, FYI, but it cools down a lot over night).
