Come to beautiful, secluded, unspoiled Bald Head Island, North Carolina, a car-free environment that is a safe, peaceful family retreat and a romantic couples getaway. Our home is beautifully decorated and fully equipped for the perfect vacation. We are a short (200 yard) walk to a white sandy beach via the neighborhood's private boardwalk system. Our beaches are never crowded! The Milliken House has a wrap-around front porch with rockers, a porch swing and hammock for visiting with friends and family. Our rear patio has an outdoor, private hot/cold water shower, and a propane grill.
The first floor of our home offers an open floor plan with living, dining and kitchen areas, pickled wood floors, nine foot ceilings, a half bath and a laundry closet with a full-sized washer and dryer. Our large gourmet kitchen has Corian countertops, a breakfast bar that seats four, maple glass-front cabinets, and a terra-cotta tile floor. The dining room table seats another six people. The living area has a color cable TV with VCR and a stereo with CD player. The dining area features a beautiful, custom-made dining table and seats six. There is a portable phone on the first floor.
The second floor is carpeted with nine foot ceilings, and has two large bedrooms, each with a king sized bed. The master bedroom has a small private deck facing south, a work area with desk, speakerphone, color cable TV with a DVD player, a large closet, and a private bath with double sinks and a large tub and shower. The guest bedroom has a comfortable wing backed arm chair, a full-sized crib complete with crib linens and a bumper in the alcove, a portable phone and a large closet. A second full bath, with tub and shower, is on the second floor in the hallway next to the guest bedroom.
The third floor, with pickled wood floors and nine foot ceilings, is a large dormer bedroom with ocean views, two built-in twin daybeds under a row of west-facing windows, built-in bunk beds, a closet, and a futon couch that folds out into a double bed. This floor is set up for kids, with a cable TV with VCR and DVD player, a stereo with CD player, and lots of children's books, videos and toys. There's a large open area up here where the kids can spread out and play!
All bed linens are high quality and professionally laundered, and all bed pillows are down-filled (we have allergenic alternatives available). We provide bath towels. We have two golf carts, a four-seater and a six-seater, for getting around the island. Upon request, we can provide temporary memberships in the Bald Head Island Club and the Shoal's Club for your length of stay.

Great time at the Milliken House

Our 3rd year to the island but first time staying at the Milliken house. The Killegray area is our favorite (2nd year staying in that community) and the house easily handled our group (2 families), and was comfortable, convenient (to the beach, the clubs and shopping) and contained everything we needed for our stay (biked daily). I would highly recommend this house for anyone planning to visit BHI. Thanks to the Nana and her family for sharing their home, we had a wonderful time and can't wait to return.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

What an absolute pleasure the Milliken house is. Charming, relaxing and comfortable. Wonderful for kids, with a top floor sleeping area that harkens to sleepovers with cousins I loved as a child. The location is great, with beaches you can walk to in mere minutes. The house is in excellent condition. I would absolutely make a return trip to both Bald Head Island and this wonderful home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I had the pleasure of staying at this lovely home during the month of January. The house was cozy and equipped with everything you could need. Centrally located on the island and a short walk to the beach. The island in January was incredibly quiet, but I can't think of a better place to be. I hope to have the opportunity to rent this home in the future. Thanks to the owners for sharing their home, you can tell this is a place that a family loves and not just a rental property.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful stay at the Milliken House, and I would strongly recommend giving it a shot if you plan to visit Bald Head Island. It's in a great location (close to both clubs and a quick walk across the street to the beach). Very cute inside with a well-equipped kitchen and VERY comfortable beds, which is always a problem for me! Lots of privacy, as well as the use of their bikes and golf carts. We would definitely stay there again!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

Additional information about rental rates
Please contact us regarding the terms of our pet policy before booking, and note that the refundable damage deposit for those persons bringing a pet with them is $500, rather than $250. There is no "pet fee." The VRBO system isn't set up to allow for a higher damage deposit for pets, so it shows it as an additional $250 pet fee, but it will be refunded per the contract if no damage occurs.
Fees:
- Pet Fee: $250
- Cleaning and Professional Laundry Fee: $200
- Refundable Damage Deposit: $250
- Tax Rate 12.75%
Cancellation policy:
Any amounts paid are nonrefundable in the event of cancellation by Tenant, provided that Owner will use reasonable business efforts to rerent the home for the dates originally booked by canceling Tenant, and will refund rent paid by Tenant soley to the extent rent is recovered by Owner through rental of the same dates to another party. Dogs are allowed solely pursuant to the terms of owner's pet policy set forth below. These terms will be incorporated into the rental contract. 1. Please do not allow your dog onto the stairs or the second or third floors of our home. Allowing pets onto the stair treads tends to damage the finish thereon. The 2nd and 3rd floors of our home are carpeted bedroom areas. The first floor has wood and tile floors and is easier to keep free of pet hair, etc. 2. Please do not allow your dog onto the furniture in our home. 3. Please keep your dog crated on the first floor at night and whenever you leave the dog at home alone. There is a folding metal crate in the utility closet on the first floor suitable for small to medium dogs. You are welcome to use it or bring your own. 4. Please abide by the island ordinances regarding keeping your dog on a leash (or under your immediate control and supervision) and cleaning up after your dog. 5. You will be charged a $500, fully refundable damage deposit (instead of the usual $250 deposit for renters without pets). We reserve the right to use this deposit to offset the cost of any extraordinary cleaning or repair measures we have to take as a result of your pet’s stay in our home. If our cleaning staff finds the home in good condition, normal wear and tear excepted, upon your departure, and does not find evidence of violation of these pet policies, we will return the damage deposit in full during the week following your departure, by regular mail.
If you have any questions please contact the owner.
Before paying contact the owner to confirm payment details.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: My husband and I have been married for over 20 years and have 3 children, all of whom have grown up vacationing in this home on Bald Head Island. We live in the Great Plains now and can only get there a few weeks a year, so we rent it the rest of the year. We have dedicated renters who return year after year. Everyone takes wonderful care of our house!
Why the Owner Chose Bald Head Island:
My husband and I bought a beach house on Bald Head Island because it seemed like the perfect place to create family memories for our children and grandchildren (someday!). The kids were quite young when we got it. We wanted a home base for our family that would be with us throughout the career moves and stages of life.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The island is very secluded and relatively unspoiled. Contact with the outside world seems very limited, and we really lose track of time there. Its an extremely safe place, where our children can just take off in the morning and come back before dark, dirty and exhausted, ready for dinner and bed! Its good, clean fun, the old fashioned kind we grew up with; limited technology, lots of nature and active, outdoor time. Our kids spend their days fishing, crabbing, clamming, surfing, biking, roller blading, playing touch football on the beach, and playing 'capture the flag' and 'ghost in the graveyard' in our neighborhood with the other kids staying there whenever we are there. Another favorite activity is setting up an old fashioned lemonade stand. Boy do they rake it in on a hot summer day!
