My wife and family have stayed in many homes throughout the Blue Ridge. I have to say this is perhaps one of the nicest, upscale lodges in this area. The house is decorated in a mountain motif, reminiscent of the Biltmore Estate. The attention to detail is perfect for any discriminating vacationer. The open Living room with soaring ceilings and log beams are incredible, there is also a gas log fireplace in the main living area, and also the Master Bedroom. Our family, especially my daughter, loved the game room, pool table and wii games supplied by the owners. If you have never been to the neighborhood, Eagle's Nest - it is awe inspiring. Set atop a beautiful mountain, with forever views, the developers spared nothing. An outdoor amphitheater, library, soccer field, trails and a multitude of other outdoor activities. You will not want to leave the gated community, it is so incredible. The location is superb, just 2-3 minutes outside of charming downtown Banner Elk. Rose and family were great to work with and a wealth of knowledge about the area. We can't wait to come back to Running Waters.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This home is fantastic! My husband and I hosted a group of married couples for our anniversary weekend and we ALL had a ball! The home is tastefully decorated and we enjoyed taking pics in front of the gorgeous Christmas tree! The living room, kitchen, and dining room were set up for "conversation"...exactly what four newlywed couples needed! And did I mention the views? AMAZING! I only realized that I had not written a review after coming back to the site to book again for this year! You will not be disappointed!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our family spent 3 days this fall in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina - going apple picking, taking hay rides, hiking trails on Grandfather Mountain, eating at the locally owned restaurants and taking in the awesome beauty of the Fall foliage in peak season. Little did we know that we would be doing that all while living in the lap of luxury! This house is like none other! Our kids (ages 3,7,10 and 13) literally did not want to come home!! They said the beds were so much more comfortable than their own, and the game room kept them busy for hours! Also, we were completely in the woods on 3 acres - which honestly felt like 300 acres - because you don't see any other houses at all from anywhere in or around the house. It was secluded, and yet safe in a gated community with other extreme custom mansion homes on huge properties. And the other advantage of the seclusion in the mountains is that once the kids were in bed, we cranked up the fireplace and enjoyed a romantic evening together imagining that we were staying at the Biltmore! The owners have done an amazing job decorating their home - it was so warm and inviting. I couldn't imagine coming back to the mountains again and NOT staying here! We will surely have great memories of this trip and thankfully we have many amazing pictures from our stay. It really was an experience like no other staying in a custom home made with such talent and creativity - right in the middle of God's amazing talent and creativity of the Blue Ridge Mountains.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Staying at Running Waters was such a wonderful experience. We had an amazing time and felt all the comforts of home. The house was cleaner than any other house we have ever rented in the mountains. There was so much attention to detail in the way the owners made this house so warm and welcoming for their guests. The kitchen is fantastic and you will enjoy cooking every day and night in it and the table is a great size to seat everyone together! In the past when we have stayed at other places we typically would have trouble with the water pressure however at this house the water pressure was better than our own home! The living room for the adults and having a game room downstairs for the kids was the best part. We never heard our kids and we were able to enjoy a lot of adult time! The owners were so pleasant to deal with and I highly recommend this property to anyone. We had 5 tween girls there between the ages of 9-13 and 6 adults and we had plenty of room! The property is amazing! We were pretty sad to leave today! Thank you so much Rosemary and David for allowing us to use your wonderful home!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

I just want to let you know how much we enjoyed staying in Running Waters at Eagles Nest. It was the perfect place to gather to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We ranged in age from 4 to 77 and all had a great time. The Great Camp offered so many things for the children. We hiked, flew kites. climbed the rope bridges, swam in the heated lagoon, scaled rocks and performed in the amphitheater. The last night we built a fire in one of the fire pits and roasted marshmallows while being serenaded by drums and children's voices. Actually, we had the place practically to ourselves. The house suited us well. Since this was a gathering to celebrate family, we were pleased to be able to seat all eleven of us at the large table by pulling up the island chairs. We got all sorts of information about restaurants in the area, but enjoyed the house and the well equipped kitchen so much that we only left for one meal. The bedrooms were very comfortable and we enjoyed the luxurious linens and the private baths. We also very much appreciated the owner's willingness to rent their mountain home for less that a full week. We were strictly bound by four days, so that made our stay possible. The house is just as pictured and was very clean and well equipped. The owners could not have been nicer about answering our many questions before arrival. We hope to be able to return one day. Until then we have many happy memories.. MillieRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We just returned home from spending a spectacular week at Running Waters!! Words cannot describe this beautiful home. It was like stepping into a magazine cover. The decor was immaculate! The layout was perfect for our 2 families. The teenagers were overjoyed!!!! Imagine that!!!! You are minutes from fun at every corner yet seconds from the pure coolness and peace of rejuvinating mountain air and rest. If you enjoy hiking,ATV excursions, picnicing,volleyball/badminton, golf, shopping, kayaking,or just kicking back on the back deck with a book and a cool drink .....look NO FURTHER. You have found it here at Running Waters!! The owners took every effort to assure our stay was not just pleasant but a memorable time spent with those we love.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

So I know I already posted a review, but I had to add something...We checked out of the house on 5/29/11 and on 6/3/11 I received our deposit back in the mail. I mean, I knew we'd be getting it back, but wasn't it expecting it so soon. Might seem small, but it speaks volumes to me-just further proof these folks are great to work with. Thanks.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Rented this house for a weekend for 4 couples while we were in town for a friend's wedding!! The wedding was beautiful but the best part about this weekend was the house! Everything is SO nicely done, not a detail is overlooked. Love all the appliances, fixtures, beautiful log cabin feel but definitely would not describe as rustic!! Even the garage is nice with pretty stone floor! The bathrooms are all beautiful, linens are suberb, beds are to die for--I slept so good!! Anyway, this house truly is gorgeous and I did not want to leave! We are already talking about planning a trip this fall- The Eagles' Nest area is amazing...at the top of the mountain there is Teepee village complete with a lagoon that is heated and just beautiful! Definitely could have used a few more days for R&R. The owners were so nice and easy to work with! This house has everything you could think of---and more. The day of our departure I was looking for the typical list of things to do at check out like putting the towels in one place, etc, taking out garbage, etc and couldnt find any such list. Asked the owners and they said the dont do that because they want people to feel like they're in a fairy tale!! No cleaning?? that IS a fairy tale!! What a wonderful weekend!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

I rented Running Waters directly from the owners through Eagles Nest for my wedding weekend. The owners were very pleasant and easy to work with. The groom's party stayed in the house: there was plenty of room for the eight of us. The decorations and furnishing were beautiful and comfortable. My group spent hours relaxing in the main living area, the open space of which was perfectly conducive to visiting. Eagles Nest itself is a wonderful spot. Despite it's still being in a developmental stage (working out staffing kinks, and developing programs and spaces in addition to consistent marketing image), it was a perfect location for our wedding. Running Waters is an excellent spot for a relaxing weekend with friends. Both I and my groomsmen were very pleased with our stay and look forward to returning again. Many thanks to the owners.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: We fell in love with the mountains of North Carolina since first setting eyes on them!! We find that there is nowhere more suited to enjoying nature and family than the High Country.
Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk:
Eagles Nest is truly a dream come true. If you can spend your time off here, why go anywhere else?
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The amenities offered at Eagles Nest are truly incredible. The pavilion is a structure you would only see in movies. Having a simple lunch cooked to order outdoors awhile gazing at the gorgeous view is restorative!!
Afterwards walk down to the cliffside library and absorb the awesome panorama while you enjoy one of the hundreds of books available.
Then there is the 4 wheeling, the mountain biking, the ropes trail, disc golf, fishing, horse back riding, archery and so much more!!
The experience is so fantastic, it is difficult to describe!!
