Location: Boone, Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA View Map
Accommodations: Bungalow, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4)
StoneGarden Guesthouse overlooks the upper valley of Valle Crucis - just 8 miles outside of Boone and half-way to Banner Elk. It is a boutique lodge-style traditional guesthouse. It is a quiet place with a view, gardens and more. In the summer the gardens are in full bloom and the hummingbirds are abundant. Everything that makes it so nice in spring, summer and fall - turns against it in winter and is closed.
StoneGarden is a laid-back atmosphere...relaxation is the point. I live here, house is way more than I need, so I did a little here and a little there and made very nice weekend (or longer) rental suites. The rates are very reasonable because I just want nice people to come, enjoy the place and come back. Another reason they are so reasonable is that I don't want to feel guilty if my dog barks, the weekend is rainy or I haven't mowed the grass on time. The place is what I consider my piece of artwork. It is unique. It seems to be just what some are looking for, others are best elsewhere.
There is a grill deck complete with nice grills, tables and chairs. There is a nice outdoor fireplace with seating and deck - great place to watch the sunset over the ridges - no, I don't build the fire, but show you where are the matches and wood.
I use to provide a full breakfast, don't anymore....lowered the rate and now it is just a nice place to stay and enjoy....coffee/filters provided.
Rates: Not complicated, but some seem to think so. Multiply your number of desired nights times the rate including taxes ($157.85 as 1b1b or $225.50 as 2b2b including taxes). If a problem for you, then not sure I want you here. I am a nice person, but gee-whiz.
Additional suite (McCrary) is available and promoted on VRBO under the Valle Crucis listing #194620. Full capacity in both suites is 6 persons (3 couples) and occasionally 1 more.
Events: Possible, have had small weddings and family get-togethers.
Extended Stay (over 2 weeks): We can talk
The mailing address is Banner Elk because I choose to have my mail delivered instead of a PO Box in Valle Crucis...an aspect of rural living.
Sorry about the 'no pets' and 'no children' thing - just the way it is.
WARNING/DISCLOSURE: Guests subject to StoneGarden Paralysis (SGP). Symptoms are tendency to laze around, fall asleep mid-day or afternoons in hammocks, sofas or garden grass areas. Cure: Bobo licking face (no cure if fallen asleep while standing). Addiction likely. ONLY IN EXTREME CASES guest decide to schuck everything at home and move to Valle Crucis.

Why the Owner Chose BooneI did not come to Valle Crucis to have a vacation rental...I came to Valle Crucis and later decided to accommodate guests.
The Unique Benefits at this BungalowValle Crucis is only minutes from Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock. There is much to enjoy here during the summer (admittedly less in the winter) from outdoor concerts at the parks to hiking, biking, and all of that kind of thing.
Owner's Map of Boone
I love Valle Crucis. This area was the first registered historic rural are in the country. The original Mast General Store is just a mile and half away. A great community with history.

My wife and I spent a relaxing weekend here and couldn't have been more pleased. If you're looking for crowds and excitement, this isn't your place. But if you value the beauty of nature and a quiet and peaceful setting with stunning views, you may like this place as much as we did. Reading and naps were our most frequent activity; that, and visiting with Griner and his Brittany, Bobo. This place is escape with a capital E. Don't tell too many people about it.

A long weekend at Stonegarden Guesthouse far exceeded my expectations, and left me unusually relaxed and serene. The Varnell Suite (2br/2ba) was immaculate and of exceptional quality. There are places to relax everywhere on the grounds, with differing views. I took advantage of hammocks on two sides of the property (one of which gently rocked me to sleep). We enjoyed a fire in the chiminea one evening while sitting in the Adirondack chairs overlooking the valley. Sitting on the covered porch of the Varnell Suite, we watched the chipmunks, hummingbirds, golden finches and the butterflies which covered the butterfly bush. The grounds are beyond beautiful - a great place to commune with God and nature. The location is perfect - serene and away from it all, but a short drive to everywhere. However, this is the kind of place that I could stay for days without ever leaving. We are planning another trip to Stonegarden this summer to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary!

Griner & Bobo, what a fabulous weekend we had. It was so murch more than we anticipated. Everything is first-class, especially Griner's delicious breakfasts! The views are spectacular and the accommodations are comfortable and sparkling clean. We didn't want to leave. We will definitely come back, and often. This is truly a Vale Crucis delight.
Owner response:Thank you for your comments. I look forward to your return.

Stonegarden Guest House is so relaxing. We enjoyed a weekend hiking and touring ASU with our son. Griner is a fabulous host. He greeeted us warmly even when we arrived late in the evening. The suites are extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicous. I began planning our next trip as soon as we arrived. Thank you, Griner for providing a local's knowledge of the area. We hope to see you again soon. Margie, Ken and Cameron

Dear Griner, What else can we say other than thank you very much. Our stay was amazing! The accomodations, grounds, views, your wonderful hospitality and delicious breakfasts both in the dining room and in our McCrary Suite and last but not least Bobo (our rental dog) made us feel so "at home". Barb and I look forward to our next two weekend stays at The Stone Garden Guest House coming up. We can't wait to get back. We'll have to do an evening fire again. That was so very tranquil and joyful. Be well and see you in October. Peace, Rick & Barb

Our children found this location for our anniversary. What a great surprise! Stone Garden is the most beautiful place in the mountains of Valley Crucis. Griner is the most accomodating host and Bobo too! We relaxed, hiked ,and enjoyed the beautiful grounds. This is a place everyone should visit.

My husband and I just spent 4 nights at the StoneGarden Guesthouse in Valle Crucis, near Boone, NC. We stayed in the McCrary Suite and this is,by far, one of the nicest places in the Mountains that we have ever stayed. The pictures on the Internet cannot capture the beauty and the privacy of this secluded paradise. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and look forward to returning soon. My husband was attending an Art workshop in Boone and this was the perfect location for us. Only about a 15-20 minute drive to downtown Boone. So, if you're looking for a pictureque view of the Blue Ridge mountains, sitting high on a mountain peak, then look no further. I sincerely have done your homework for you and I promise that you will not be disappointed. The owner is a wonderful person plus he's a good cook and a fabulous gardener. Breakfast was scrumptious and it's included! The many flowers and plantings in his Stone Gardens are beautiful. His property is a labor of love and it shows.
Owner response:thank you for your kind words and hope for your return.

The StoneGarden guesthouse is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed! The rooms are beautifully decorated and spotless. The owner met us on our arrival with a glass of wine, and that was only the beginning of his impeccable hospitality. The breakfast he prepared for us each morning was delicious, especially his homemade biscuits! The view of the rolling Blue Ridge mountains from the deck is breathtaking...but the best thing, for me, was the stunning garden, expertly arranged with amazing flowers and yummy vegetables. Come and see for yourself!
Owner response:thank you for your kind words and hope for your return.
