Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2006
Owner, a retired museum curator and specialist on 19th century decorative arts and interiors, has had many homes, but this is her favorite of all. Built in the early 1950's, but updated in the 1980's and again recently, the house was one of the earliest residences in the area known as "Tio Domingo." Its plan shows an understanding of sound construction and "green building": the property is raised several feet for drainage; large doors facing south and east utilize passive solar heat; numerous windows provide excellent ventilation. An added bonus, the four wood burning fireplaces with built-in gas starters are not found in more recent houses. This home combines the charm of the old with the convenience of the new. Waking up here is a joyous experience.
Why the Owner Chose Ajijic
The owner decided to buy a home in Ajijic because it is a community known for its colony of artists and writers, as well as for its Mexican charm. The Lake Chapala Society, with its library, services, and cultural events furnished an added inducement. Ajijic's famed temperate climate and sunny days were also influential.
