Location: Inverness, Scotland, United Kingdom, Europe
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Nestled above the legendary Loch Ness in the rolling hills of the Great Glen, Tychat House sits on a sprawling 38.5 acre estate and boasts panoramic views of Urquhart Bay and its Pictish ruins with the gracious Monalaidth Mountains providing a stunning backdrop. This secluded, charming and unique highland getaway is an idyllic holiday retreat - the view alone will keep you captivated for hours.
Renovated in 2008, the home’s interior is delightfully eclectic including a pictorial tribute to the owner’s famous scientific investigations into the existence of the Loch Ness monster. With views of the Loch from each room, Tychat House is the perfect place to “Nessie-watch.”
The ground floor features large picture windows and its open layout surrounds a wood-burning fireplace. Round every corner is another nook or snug with seating. During fine weather, the outdoor patio is perfect for enjoying the fresh highland air or dining, but don’t be surprised by the occasional woolly passer-by (sheep).
The first floor presents the choice of two spectacular double bedrooms. Both offer king-size beds, stellar views and private balconies - ideal for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or a quiet drink as the sun goes down. The third bedroom is equipped with a single trundle bed and is also endowed with the same breathtaking vista.
When you venture out you will be spoilt for choice of things to do in the area. Easy day trips include: The Loch Ness Exhibition Centre at the Drumnadrochit Hotel, Glen Affric, Fort Augustus (where you can see the famous Telford lock), Fort William, Aviemore (both have steam railways) Inverness City and its shopping, swimming pool and multi screen cinema, Culloden Battle Field and its visitors centre, take a boat trip on the Moray Firth so see the dolphins or board a real Loch Ness research vessel to search for Nessie.
The area is rich with history and nature. There is easy access to water sports, golf, fishing and walking/hiking. In fact, the ‘Great Glen Way’ footpath passes through the fields of Tychat Estate and is easily accessible from the house.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1978
My family and I have owned this property since the early 1970s. It has become our beloved second home and my father, Robert H. Rines, has based his research into the Loch Ness Monster from this house for the last 30 years. We hope that you will enjoy the mystique, comfort and beauty that Tychat Estate provides. Not to mention, the possibility of catching a glimpse of Nessie : )
Why the Owner Chose Inverness
This property is first and foremost our second home. We have decided to position the house as a vacation rental in order to help with the expenses of the property as well as open the doors to others who will experience one of the most mysterious, relaxing, beautiful and inspiring locations in the Highlands.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Privacy, beautiful vistas of the Great Glen and Loch Ness; including the ruins of Urquhart Castle. Easy access to the Great Glen Way, which passes through the 38.5 acre estate. Proximity to the Loch Ness exhibition center and other tourist attractions.
