Home away from home...

My home away from home... From the generous bottle of a local Napa red on the table when we arrived, to the sweet smell of peonies on my nightstand and the inviting warmth of the bedding from the bedroom, this was by far the most exquisite city escape my husband and I have enjoyed in years. For awhile now, friends have been telling us to try a short term apartment when we visit San Francisco but we only just recently tried VRBO. Thank heavens we found this charming Elizabeth Street apartment, in the heart of Noe Valley. Every morning my husband would wander down to the corner coffee shop where he read his paper and got to know the locals. Later we would stroll to the nearest Muni stop and jump on the street train and within minutes we'd be on the waterfront, downtown or the hip Mission district. The apartment itself was beautiful, with clean hardwood floors, sparking glass doors and windows, a great sitting area and outdoor garden. We really got into the city living, even ordering takeout from the phenomenal nearby restaurants or nightly soaks in the timeless claw foot bathtub. We cooked many nights in the fully stocked kitchen; everything you needed to entertain was available and effective (great stove and oven even when I cooked a turkey dinner for my friends). The building owners were present if you needed them but never apparent when you didn't. I don't recall any noise (aside from my husband sawing logs in the bed beside me). We can't wait to get back to California but specifically to this Noe gem.

My problems with the apartment were that the odor of gas coming from the stove was very strong. The refrigerator did not work, only the freezer section. To get hot water in the bathtub it was necessary to crawl under the bath tub to turn on and off the valve as there was a constant leak of hot water into the tub. On my last day there was a flood of water on the bathroom floor - not sure where this came from. I know for a fact these problems existed weeks earlier and were reported to the landlord's representative but obviously nothing has been done to rectify them. It was a very disappointing stay at this apartment.
Owner response:Had this person contacted me with her issues as other guests have if there has ever been a problem I would have immediately helped her out or at the very least offered her a full refund. -The leaky faucet was a 5 minute fix. -The frost that built up in the freezer preventing the fridge from getting cold air to it was also a 5 minute fix. -The scent of the gas from the Wedgewood oven can also be removed with the windows cracked and the screens kept in place. Instead she made a mess of the apartment before she left, and wrote what she would have liked fixed via her poor review. In two and half years renting this apartment via VRBO this person is the only guest I'd not have back again. C'est la vie!

We really enjoyed the week we spent there, we easily felt at home, so far from home ! It was beyond what we expected, much larger than it seemed on the photos, clean and beautifully furnished. The back garden made us feel away from the city. The apartment is in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood, but close to everything ... A very short walk or bus ride and you're in the Castro, with easy access to anywhere on Muni metro, buses or street cars ! 24th street is next door, with shops and restaurants. Thanks to Matt for his warm welcome and good tips on the neighborhood! we definitely will come back!! Fred & Jerome
Owner response:Fred & Jerome, Thank you both for the kind review. I look forward to you staying here again. Enjoy your summer, Matt

We stayed here because we wanted to find a place in the area while visiting our daughter. It turned out to be very affordable, convenient, and walking distance to her apartment. The place is very clean, roomy, remodeled, fully equipped, and secure. Most of all the owner/manager is so friendly and accommodating. He gave us restaurant recommendations, etc. and when we were hit with an unusual heat wave, he went out and bought us an electric fan! We would definitely stay there again.

Well where do we start, the pictures are spot on, we have stayed at many apartments in various countries around the world and I have never stayed in one as fully equipped as this one, it has everything you would ever need and more, every time I opened a cupboard I found more items, more than we even have at home so you do not need to bring anything apart from your clothes. The apartment has free Wi-Fi and Cable TV, DVD player and Sony 32”TV, it is in excellent condition and exceptionally clean. Matt was very helpful when we had a small problem with the plumbing on our second last day, 30 mins after a call to Matt he was there organising a plumber and it was all sorted out by the time we came home (this is always a good sign). The surrounding area (24th St) was Fantastic for Shops / Bars / Restaurants, they were all so charming and Non-Tourist, a pleasure if you have spent the day at Fishermans Wharf, it was hard to leave 24th St sometimes to go and explore the rest of San Francisco. Transport we found the best way to get about was jumping on the J line at Church and 24th this was the quickest and most direct route to down town it also went past a Safeway for all your needs, we purchased a 7 day pass for the Muni which lets you on everything (including the cable car which are $5 a single ride) except the BART and more than paid for itself within days. Would I recommend this apartment to Friends and family All day Long so glad we stayed here and not down town as this showed us the real San Francisco which has to rate as one of the friendliest Cities we have ever been to, my wife was planning to come back even before we had left (a very rare occurrence). We done the Segway tour of the city and this is a must to everybody, it was just the highlight of the week, do yourself a favour and book it you will not regret it. Finally we have to mention the restaurant “Pomodoro” @ the corner of Noe & 24th this was the only place we ate at 3 times, Brilliant location for Al fresco dining on a nice sunny day, Food was excellent, and most importantly the Service was the Friendliest we have ever had the staff are a credit to the Business. All in if you wish to see the very best of San Francisco and have a brilliant location this is the place to stay.

We enjoyed our extended weekend here in Noe Valley. The location is terrific, very close to shops, dining and the bus lines. Loved visiting the Saturday Farmer's Market on 24th Street. The photos accurately reflect the apartment. The owner was terrific and helped us operate the wireless connection and television.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. It was extremely clean and Matt was more than willing to do anything to make your stay better. And it was very convenient to transportation to any part of San Francisco. We also enjoyed the short walk to downtown Noe Valley.
