A friend and I spent two nights at the River House and we wished it could have been longer. The house is spacious, well-equipped, and comfortable and Anne could not have been more accommodating. There were so many personal touches, including a welcome basket, and it was evident that a lot of thought had gone into making guests feel at home. Even though the house was great, the river and general setting were over the top! We felt relaxed just looking out the window and couldn't wait to get "home" from sightseeing to spend time in the hammock or on the beautiful deck with a glass of wine! We took some nice walks after dinner and just sat outside listening to the river. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, but only if could be a longer visit! It's a magical spot.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The cabin is even better than the pictures show. It was extremely clean and well maintained. The newly added deck was perfect for lounging in the mornings with my coffee. The kitchen was fully stocked with every gadget needed. Having a dishwasher made cleanup a breeze. It was a little difficult getting in and out of the kayaks at the cabin, but we were able to do so. After a short distance of shallow water, it was much easier. As for fishing, we caught a few cat fish right from the bank, but be careful, a coon came in and stole our bait while we were sitting 10 feet away! Nearby, we saw many deer and bear. We did see a bald eagle from the cabin deck. It was amazing! Bottom line, if you are thinking about renting this cabin, do, you will not be disapointed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My kids said it best "AWESOME" and they were dead on. My wife and I were extremely pleased with everything The River House had to offer. No complaints at all. We saw Ducks, Geese, Deer, and an Eagle. Thank You Anne for opening your home to us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My friend and I needed a well-deserved rest. We found it here! This home has all the amenities of home, and is so peaceful and quiet. The scenic views of the river and mountains are so pretty. This home is well-appointed and very comfortable. The beds were also comfortable. We enjoyed the fire pit, the hammock and being so close to the river. This truly is a great rental home and Anne was so nice to work with. She really thinks of everything. We are already planning our next trip!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Friends were visiting from England so we were looking for a weekend getaway in the mountains. I have travelled all over the US but the River House is THE perfect getaway. It is just a short distance from the DC area but a world away. Just sitting on the deck listening to the river run calms the mind and heart. In the morning the mist slowly arose off the river and as we drank our coffee, a beaver bobbed his head up and down as he swam down river. The house has all the comforts you could ever want and is very spacious. In the evening we grilled outside and watched the sun set over the mountains. Then we built a fire in the outdoor fire pit and just sat and listened to the night. If you like to fish, it is there. There is plenty to do if you want so take my advice, go to the River House. A selfish part of me doesn't want to tell too many people because I want to keep going there myself.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the River House and definitely plan on coming back. Anne was very helpful and easy to work with. The house is very well cared for, clean, and the location was unbelievable. (Warning - the road to the house is unpaved and there are some pretty big potholes - it's very isolated - part of the charm!). The views of the river are beautiful and it's so nice to listen to the sound of the water outside. My advice is to stock up on everything you will need for your stay at the house before you arrive, and then when you get there you will never have to leave. (It's about a 20 minute drive to the Wal-Mart Supercenter if you do need anything). We spent our days hiking or relaxing at the house. Our evenings were spent sitting outside by the campfire, listening to the sound of the river, roasting hot dogs or marshmallows, with occasional dips in the hot tub. It was the perfect romantic secluded winter getaway. Look forwarding to getting back in the summer and spending more time in the river. The one thing I'd recommend is an updated TV set for the main room (although maybe this is intentional - there's a lot to do besides watch TV!)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This property more than lived up to our expectations. A beautiful well appointed, comfortable and equipped house, with stunning views. Everything you could possibly need was here. We felt relaxed and at home straight away. The snowfall while we were there meant we could not utilise the kayaks, firepit, etc, however, we were never bored and made full use of the many available games, (nice to know I can still beat the kids at MarioKart!!) and the hot tub. The snow served only in allowing us to spend much needed valuable family time together as well as providing an opportunity to appreciate natures amazing palette. We must thank Anne for her help and reassurance right from the first enquiry to arriving back in the UK. Annes attentiveness and support was exceptional (even ringing us with the weather forecast!). Would we recommend the River House? ABSOLUTELY,WE LOVED IT. Can't wait to return, but next time, for longer and perhaps in the summer.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Not a detail missed. Anyone would love this rental. Plan on stocking up on groceries and drinks and just settling in this great house. Don't drive the low clearance car, though. The road in and lane are rough. Perfect for birders and nature lovers of all kinds without the work of setting up camp. Thanks for everyhting Anne.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The River House truly is the perfect home-away-from-home! Our long weekend there was amazing. I loved tubing down the river and napping in the hammocks. The fire pit and hot tub are ideal for cool evenings. The home owners have thought of every little detail to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. Plus, they're a joy to work with! We can't wait to come again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I enjoyed every second of our stay. The location is afar enough away from town to feel like we were getting away, but close enough to pop in for a quick something we forgot. Anne was so great to deal with, she felt like someone we had already known for years, not someone we just met. She was very flexible with a potentially conflicting family situation we had. She was so patient and understanding and thought it would have cost her money, was willing to delay our stay due to this emergency. In the end, we stayed the full time, so it all worked out. But you can always predict your experience of a lodging based on how you are treated when you arrange the details, and we were not disappointed. The house is stocked with everything you need, and nothing was as refreshing as sitting by the window looking out on the flowing water in the morning. We used the hot tub as much as we could and it was hot and wonderful. Even the movie selection is good, and the free and reliable wi-fi was a godsend as my husband booked arrangements for a funeral had had to attend when we returned. If I write too many good things, I will have competition for this place, so I'd better stop. We ALMOST wish we'd brought family or friends with us to enjoy the house, yard, view of the river. Didn't get to swim or kayak cuz of the rushing water and recent heavy rains, but the hammock and firepit and grill were put to good use. Stay here, you won't regret it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

About the owner: Anne Ulrich - My husband, Barry and I live in northern Virginia with our 2 daughters.
Why the Owner Chose Luray:
We bought this property so we could spend time here and share it too! Our kids are growing up fast and we realized the need to show them more than the suburban environment they live in. Luray has so much to offer: Luray Caverns, hiking, tubing, kayak/canoeing, mountain biking, campfires, Skyline Drive, not to mention all the stars! It's truly a great way to reconnect with your family and yourself.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
There is not one home on the rental market in Luray that has better river views than we do. Our house is 30 feet from the river's edge. Step out the door and you are there!
