Luray cabin description

Turn off your computer, set down your blackberry. Reconnect with nature and loved ones in the Shenandoah River Valley at The River House.

Enjoy your morning coffee watching wildlife on the river. Listen to the flow of water and the breeze in the trees. The Massanutten mountain range is in the distance, plan a hike. The river is at your feet, go kayaking. The hammock is strung between the trees, hang out and read a book.

The firepit is ready and waiting to toast marshmallows. The moon reflects on the river. The locusts sing their song. Sit back and relax. Enjoy the cool, crisp fall evenings gathered with your friends/family around the warmth of the fire.

Everything is here, at The River House, to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Come! We'd love to share our little piece of the river with you.

We are 2 hours west of Washington DC in Luray Virginia.

We booked this property as part of a 4 week tour of the East of the US and it was absolutely perfect. I cannot fault the house, the location and the welcome. Sitting beside the river in the evening was such a delight and seeing the wildlife on the river was amazing. The house is spotless, and comfortable. We found we could walk for 20 mins upstream to the launch point and put our tubes in the water and float back down stream to the house - about a 40 min trip- divine! I would happily go back again. There is also a delightful cinema in the town - check out the different screen rooms all themed. I have to say seeing 6 bears on our trip (after none in Canada) really made the trip for me.

Our time at The River House was truly the most relaxing time ever. I can not begin to describe how truly relaxing and rejuvenating our time there was. Every amenity that you could possibly need was provided...and the home was clean and well appointed. We spent time relaxing, napping, cooking, tubing, fishing, reading, talking, and genuinely enjoying the peace, quiet, and company of nature and each other. The River House is truly a special spot and we can not wait to return. VERY RARELY do we truly relax and unplug...but this place and this experience allowed us to do that very thing. Anne is a truly remarkable host...and her personal touches are seen and felt throughout the house and throughout your time there.

We spent a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing week at The River House and did not want to leave. The only reason we did is because we know we will go back! The house is very comfortable, clean and has all the amenities we needed. The lot is much larger than expected and very private. We played corn hole, cooked on the grill, had campfires and soaked up the surroundings. Fishing was great, everyone caught fish, including the kids. The kayak and tubes gave us an opportunity to explore the river. The peaceful rushing of the river is very soothing. You can make this an adventure vacation or just relax and read a book. And bring a camera! Anne was extremely helpful with reservations, accomodations and recommending some local shopping and restaurants. I will recommend The River House to my friends, even though I'd like to keep it to myself.

A friend and I spent two nights at the River House and we wished it could have been longer. The house is spacious, well-equipped, and comfortable and Anne could not have been more accommodating. There were so many personal touches, including a welcome basket, and it was evident that a lot of thought had gone into making guests feel at home. Even though the house was great, the river and general setting were over the top! We felt relaxed just looking out the window and couldn't wait to get "home" from sightseeing to spend time in the hammock or on the beautiful deck with a glass of wine! We took some nice walks after dinner and just sat outside listening to the river. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, but only if could be a longer visit! It's a magical spot.

The cabin is even better than the pictures show. It was extremely clean and well maintained. The newly added deck was perfect for lounging in the mornings with my coffee. The kitchen was fully stocked with every gadget needed. Having a dishwasher made cleanup a breeze. It was a little difficult getting in and out of the kayaks at the cabin, but we were able to do so. After a short distance of shallow water, it was much easier. As for fishing, we caught a few cat fish right from the bank, but be careful, a coon came in and stole our bait while we were sitting 10 feet away! Nearby, we saw many deer and bear. We did see a bald eagle from the cabin deck. It was amazing! Bottom line, if you are thinking about renting this cabin, do, you will not be disapointed.

My kids said it best "AWESOME" and they were dead on. My wife and I were extremely pleased with everything The River House had to offer. No complaints at all. We saw Ducks, Geese, Deer, and an Eagle. Thank You Anne for opening your home to us.

My friend and I needed a well-deserved rest. We found it here! This home has all the amenities of home, and is so peaceful and quiet. The scenic views of the river and mountains are so pretty. This home is well-appointed and very comfortable. The beds were also comfortable. We enjoyed the fire pit, the hammock and being so close to the river. This truly is a great rental home and Anne was so nice to work with. She really thinks of everything. Friends were visiting from England so we were looking for a weekend getaway in the mountains. I have travelled all over the US but the River House is THE perfect getaway. It is just a short distance from the DC area but a world away. Just sitting on the deck listening to the river run calms the mind and heart. In the morning the mist slowly arose off the river and as we drank our coffee, a beaver bobbed his head up and down as he swam down river. The house has all the comforts you could ever want and is very spacious. In the evening we grilled outside and watched the sun set over the mountains. Then we built a fire in the outdoor fire pit and just sat and listened to the night. If you like to fish, it is there. There is plenty to do if you want so take my advice, go to the River House. A selfish part of me doesn't want to tell too many people because I want to keep going there myself.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the River House and definitely plan on coming back. Anne was very helpful and easy to work with. The house is very well cared for, clean, and the location was unbelievable. (Warning - the road to the house is unpaved and there are some pretty big potholes - it's very isolated - part of the charm!). The views of the river are beautiful and it's so nice to listen to the sound of the water outside. My advice is to stock up on everything you will need for your stay at the house before you arrive, and then when you get there you will never have to leave. (It's about a 20 minute drive to the Wal-Mart Supercenter if you do need anything). We spent our days hiking or relaxing at the house. Our evenings were spent sitting outside by the campfire, listening to the sound of the river, roasting hot dogs or marshmallows, with occasional dips in the hot tub. It was the perfect romantic secluded winter getaway. Look forwarding to getting back in the summer and spending more time in the river. The one thing I'd recommend is an updated TV set for the main room (although maybe this is intentional - there's a lot to do besides watch TV!)

This property more than lived up to our expectations. A beautiful well appointed, comfortable and equipped house, with stunning views. Everything you could possibly need was here. We felt relaxed and at home straight away. The snowfall while we were there meant we could not utilise the kayaks, firepit, etc, however, we were never bored and made full use of the many available games, (nice to know I can still beat the kids at MarioKart!!) and the hot tub. The snow served only in allowing us to spend much needed valuable family time together as well as providing an opportunity to appreciate natures amazing palette. We must thank Anne for her help and reassurance right from the first enquiry to arriving back in the UK. Annes attentiveness and support was exceptional (even ringing us with the weather forecast!). Would we recommend the River House? ABSOLUTELY,WE LOVED IT. Can't wait to return, but next time, for longer and perhaps in the summer.

About the owner: Anne Ulrich - I live in northern Virginia with my 2 daughters.

                          Why the Owner Chose Luray:
We bought this property so we could spend time here and share it too! Our kids are growing up fast and we realized the need to show them more than the suburban environment they live in. Luray has so much to offer: Luray Caverns, hiking, tubing, kayak/canoeing, mountain biking, campfires, Skyline Drive, not to mention all the stars! It's truly a great way to reconnect with your family and yourself.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
There is not one home on the rental market in Luray that has better river views than we do. Our house is 30 feet from the river's edge. Step out the door and you are there!
