Why the Owner Chose Al Tahoe
We love Al Tahoe! Al Tahoe is one of South Lake Tahoe's oldest and most historic neighborhoods. It is located in the center of South Lake Tahoe between Regan Beach and Lake Tahoe Blvd, quickly accessible as it's close to Highway 50. It is extremely safe for strolling with small children and long jogs/runs in the Meadow. Regan Beach is just a short walk away from our home with a playground for kids and many geese to chase! Other Lake Tahoe activities are very near to the Al Tahoe area including Heavenly Valley Ski & Village, Camp Ricardson/Valhalla Historic Resort, Emerald Bay, Casino Corridor, and the El Dorado Beach Recreation Area/boat ramp.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
We want your stay at South Lake Lodge to be like that at a high-end Bed & Breakfast. You'll find no 70's furniture, orange shag rugs, or funky tile here - we've completely gutted and replaced the bathrooms, kitchen, flooring, fixtures, lighting and added high-end furnishing for your (and our) comfort and enjoyment. Our hope is that you'll treat South Lake Lodge like your own and keep coming back to stay with us.
Six blocks from the lodge is Regan Beach with a children's playground and many geese for kids to chase!
This shop is in an excellent location, where the Lake Tahoe Bike Path begins at El Dorado Beach. The staff sells and rents everything you need for both summer and winter sports.
Within walking distance from the lodge. Meadow is perfect for jogs/runs, hiking, biking and exploring with the kids. Ends at a secluded beach on Lake Tahoe (Hidden Beach).
Harvey, Harrahs, and MontBleu among several others are just an $12 cab ride from the lodge.
Bijou Community Park has a playground, group picnic shelters, bandstand/gazebo, fitness trail, horseshoe pits, game court area, sand volleyball courts, & skateboard park (helmets and pads required).
Mini-golf and mini amusement park, perfect for the whole family.
Picchetti Winery is one of the oldest wineries in California. It has a tasting room within walking distance from the lodge.
Both are our family favorites for great fast (and cheap) eats.
A famous ski resort in Lake Tahoe on the California and Nevada border. Find the latest snow conditions, ski reports, live ski cams, discounted ski passes, blogs at skiheavenly.com.

My family and I had a wonderful time at this house. It is very clean and the kitchen and bathrooms are nicely updated. The bedrooms are very comfortable and everything is nicely decorated. We loved the hockey table and everyone loved the animated trophy deer on the wall. The home is very comfortable and the hot tub is very clean. It is walking distance to the beach, stores, restaurants, and only a short drive to casinos and Emerald Bay. We were surprised to see that everything we needed was already stocked in the kitchen. This made our stay even more pleasant. We would stay here again and highly recommend it for other families or groups of friends. Thank you for letting us stay in your lodge!

I stayed at this lodge with a group of girlfriends for a mini-reunion. We had a great time and we loved the location. We enjoyed the walk to the beach/lake and to the meadows. And it was just a short drive to dinner or the casino. The place was great and really had all the comforts of home: very clean, plenty of beds for everyone, newly remodeled bathrooms, well equipped kitchen, comfy furniture. I would definitely recommend this place. I will come again, and I will bring my grandkids next time - they would LOVE the game room!

My family takes many trips to Tahoe and prior to finding this place we'd just look online each time to find the "best deal". I can no longer look online because once we stayed here my wife and kids don't want to stay anywhere else! The house has everything you need to keep make your stay comfortable! The kitchen is great and even though we still go out to Blue Dog one night of our trip we make very good use of the kitchen the rest of the time. Refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker (a MUST), everything you need to be self sufficient for your stay plus there's a Safeway less than 5 minutes away for getting your groceries. The living room area is very cozy! The fireplace is simple to operate and provides a very comfy setting in the living room. There are multiple board games to play and the owners even have a satellite system for those that want to watch TV although it rarely comes on when we're there. The master bedroom is spacious and the bed is comfortable (no sleeping on bricks here thankfully). There is another TV in the master bedroom that also is connected to the satellite system. The other two rooms at the front of the house are very cozy and totally "Tahoe". One of the other two bedrooms in the front is directly connected to the second bathroom also which is convenient for my older son. The back of the house was converted into two more bedrooms and is also the reason my boys love this place so much (and why my wife and I do also). There is a door that separates the front from the back which is a blessing as there is an air hockey table and a basketball hoop in one of the back bedrooms and boy do those kids have a blast back there! It's so nice to know they're having a great time and it has nothing to do with a video game! Each of the two rooms in the back have bunk beds and one of them also has a TV with a DVD player in case you want to bring movies for the kids. Outside there is a large back yard that has two trees perfectly situated to set up a dog run (it is not fenced on the front of the house). There is a WONDERFUL hot tub on the side of the house also. Now for location... this is a short cab ride from the casinos but for us as a family, it is a short walk to the lake! We take the boys and dog down to the lake everyday we stay here. It is also a short walk to the best milkshakes in Tahoe! All in all, my family and I absolutely love staying here and look forward to many more trips to "The Lodge"!

So glad to have found this home! We took our dogs and teens for a quick getaway! They all had so much fun. Great location--walking distance to lake and dog park--close to casinos and Heavenly--Great place for little kids as well. Carpets a bit worn and dingy, but otherwise in really good shape. Owner responded to our requests quickly. Couldn't get DVD player to work, but they have cable, so all was good!!!

This listing description is not accurate. It is not a gourmet kitchen by any means, in fact, it has little to offer with a small stove/oven, tiny microwave, refrigerator with no shelves on the door, and no normally stocked utensils and small appliances for kitchen use. While the small living room and front bedrooms are decent (although none of the beds in the house are anywhere near new) the back rooms and hallway appear to have no recent paint. The bathrooms are updated and very nice as are the towels. The forced air heat is very efficient. It is a very narrow house with a tiny backyard that is not completely fenced in. The carport is so narrow it is difficult to unload or load one's belongings into the house. Although I was told it was clean and ready for my arrival on a Friday morning, it was not and after finding mouse droppings in the bed (after I slept in it!) and in gross supply in the cupboard below the kitchen sink, I left after one night and found two large and beautifully appointed houses with fully equipped kitchens and lovely furnishings for only $500 more than this place for the same total number of days. I was told by the "housekeeper/manager" that I had not been exp4ected until the following day and the house had not been cleaned. I would go to South Lake Tahoe and view this place before ever renting it and also check out its competitiion.
Owner response:Greetings, Well, after 2 years of happy renters we finally got a bad review. This guest was looking for a very high end kitchen and formal dining room to entertain guests. Despite sending the guest a full inventory of kitchen items and purchasing several more, and sending a virtual tour of every room in the Lodge, they decided they wanted out of the contract. Unfortunately, they decided to fabricate and exaggerate the above comments in an effort to break the contract. Our property manager worked with them to find alternate lodging and they were able to have a nice holiday with their family. In response to the details. We have a very well stocked kitchen, more equivalent to a second home than a vacation rental. Our Lodge is always fully ready before our guest's arrival, and was in this case as well. After the guests claim of finding "mouse droppings" our property manager was over in 20 minutes to inspect and clean - but the guest "had disposed of the evidence". Regardless, we had an exterminator in who found no evidence of any infestation, but serviced the property and we have had no issues since. If you have any concerns about the above comments, we have references from many guests that have stayed for several months at the property, hosted a wedding and reception on the property and many that have hosted large holiday events as well. Best regards, John and Mandy Nelson

Thank you for our stay in your wonderful lodge! We found it quite well stocked with anything and everything we needed and more. The accommodations we sparkling, updated and had a cozy, chalet feel. My computer linked to the Wifi right away without extra frustration and configuring. The rooms are spacious and situated in a way where groups can have privacy or togetherness, depending on their mood. And it is easy to walk out of the quaint neighborhood to the dog friendly beach, open nature or have a quick drive to casinos. The comfy beds made relaxing very easy. Again, we thank you for your hospitality and we wish we had time to stay another day!

(Comment emailed directly to South Lake Lodge owner) We just came back from a great trip - our usual rental home was booked so we tried "South Lake Lodge" and loved it! Here's what stood out: - While the home isn't new, the furnishings, kitchen and baths look like they were newly updated and were very clean & high-end compared to other rental houses we've stayed at - The kids spent hours in the game room which gave us adults time to actually sit down, relax and talk:) - The owners left us a free bottle of wine to enjoy - a nice touch after 5 hours in the car! - We walked to this amazing beach each morning w/ the kids - a great park and playground for those with little ones - The owners hooked us up with a great babysitter which gave us a chance to hit the casino's two of the nights - my wife even won $2,000 on video poker more than paying for our trip:) No real negatives except the thunderstorms in August can cut your beach days a bit short
