As we started our 1900 klm journey to what is going to be our winter condo, we were naturally concerned. We had noticed the above review before we set out and we were puzzled as to what happened to the lovely condo that we spent 12 weeks at last winter. I am happy to report that while I no doubt believe the lady had a bad experience, we have been here for four weeks and no sight of bugs, or anything else for that matter. This unit has everything we need for three months. It is spacious, well furnished, and well stocked with utensils for the daily necessities. The televisions had all been replaced with flat screens since we were here last year. It was very clean when we arrived, as a matter of fact the floors were so clean that after we had been here a week, I started to wash them but gave up as the water was as clean as when I started. The piece de résistance for this unit is the view from the master bedroom. Imagine opening your eyes every morning to the dark green palms; a lighter green water and of course the famous white sands of the emerald coast. Now add the sound of the gentle crash of waves breaking as they hit the beach. That pretty much sums up what I have to look forward to each morning. Water Edge is considered one of the better properties on the island. The outside of the building and the grounds itself are well maintained. The BBQ grills are cleaned every morning. The smaller pool is heated so after a round of golf, it’s a great place to soak the old bones. Please accept it from me this unit is definitely very rentable; I’m going to spend my winter here and hopefully next year as well. We have been renting a condo on Okaloosa Island every summer for approximately 10 years and this is by far the dirtiest, buggiest condo we have ever stayed in. When we arrived there were gnats every where in the kitchen and the garbage disposal was crawling with maggots.Yes maggots! After a 14 hour drive to Okaloosa Island, we all got ready for bed Saturday night only to discover that the bedspread on one of twin beds literally looked like someone had wiped his/her behind with it. That necessitated striping all the beds and washing the sheets to make sure they were clean; which was such a joy in the tiny stackable washing machine starting at 10 pm and ending at 4 am! We killed approximately 20 palmeto bugs in the week we were in the condo. All the switch plate covers and light switches were grungy, dirty and greasy. The sliding glass door to the balcony was so dirty you could barely see through it. The handle to the sliding class door was so slimy with sunscreen it made my skin crawl to touch it. We wore flip flops inside the condo all week because the tile floor throughout turned feet black within minutes. I have bleached my husband's socks he wore that week three times since returning home and still can't get them clean. The owner did get a cleaning company to come in late Tuesday afternoon (after repeated irrate emails from me) and the exterminator came in on Friday, but we had been living in a dirty, buggy condo since the previous Saturday. The cleaning company that came in on Tuesday cleaned in the general living spaces, but completely ignored the bedrooms and bathrooms. We finally bought cleaning supplies and cleaned the rest ourselves the best we could, but it still wasn't great. Just what we wanted to do on our nice relaxing beach vacation! This condo needs serious deep cleaning. The gnats grew to mature flies throughout the week and congregated around the garbage disposal, swarming anyone who came close. We fought them all week and had to be constantly vigilant that all food stuffs were completely sealed. Between the flies and palmetto bugs, we washed each dish as we took it from the cabinet prior to using it. All in all, we were extremely unhappy with this condo and will never stay there again or rent from this owner again. RENT THIS CONDO AT YOUR OWN RISK!Owner response: We have been reting this condo for over 10 years and never had and complaints. When we were notified of the unin being diry we contact another cleaning service to go to the unit and reclean it. We have had clients come back more than once to this unit. I guess some people are never satisfied.
