APARTMENT DESCRIPTION ....

Enjoy a feeling of home that you won't get from hotels- for a much lower price. This 5th/top floor walk-up apartment has been renovated and designed to be comfortable for guests so you won't feel like you're in someone else's home. With no neighbors above or on two sides, you will enjoy peace and quiet with no neighbor or street noise when you are relaxing. The apartment is a beautiful privately owned and meticulously maintained 1 bedroom in New York City. It is smartly decorated with classy colors/furnishings and quality appliances.

Enjoy Central Park and the Museum Mile with the Met and Guggenheim just steps away. A 10 minute cab ride and you're in bustling Midtown to enjoy Rockefeller Center or the Theatre District. Catch the 4 train uptown from 86th Street to 161st Street to take in a Yankees game. Want to visit Wall Street, Battery Park, and the Statue of Liberty?... grab a 4 or 5 train downtown and be there in 20 minutes.

AMENITIES/FURNISHING: You will have everything you need during your stay. This includes but is not limited to high quality Bamboo Cotton bath linens, fresh/clean 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and quality mattress cover, a Stearns & Foster Montgomery Place Pillowtop bed (purchased Sept. 2009), stainless steel dishwasher, full refrigerator, microwave, and full set of dishes, utensils, and cookware. You will also find some hotel toiletries available if you need them, including bar soap and shampoo. Directions to connect to WiFi Broadband internet can be found in the living room so you can stay connected if you brought a laptop on your visit.

LOCATION: East 83rd Street, between Lexington and 3rd Avenues on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

AVAILABILITY: Please check availability calendar at the link on the right. The calendar is current and any nights marked unavailable have been secured by a guest through a deposit. All nights marked as available are available.

INCLUDED IN PRICE: Tax, Standard Cleaning Fees, utilities, WiFi Broadband, and HD DirecTV w/HBO is included in the rental price.

LAUNDRY: I would recommend dropping of your laundry for wash and fold service at a laundromat on 83rd, just the other side of 3rd ave (blue awning) for a 1 day turnaround, but there are numerous laundromats 1-2 blocks away. At 84th and 3rd ave, about 2 blocks away, there is a self-service laundromat.

GETTING TO APT FROM NYC AIRPORTS:
- JFK - Taxi's (yellow cabs, not car service) must charge a flat $45 rate between JFK and Manhattan per city regulations. You could take a train for about $8 per person, but it takes twice as long and involves transferring twice. If you do want to take the train from JFK: take the AirTrain to Jamaica Center (NOT Howard Beach); transfer to the E train (blue) and take it to 51st St Station in Manhattan; transfer to the 6 train (green) uptown and get off at 86th St Station.
- LaGuardia - I would definitely take a cab from LGA and it will be about $25 + tip depending on time of day. You could take the M40 bus from LGA to 125th St and then take a 4/5/6 downtown, but I would not suggest it.

Luxury 1 BR - 3 Blocks to Central Park, the Met, 4/5/6 Train

Year Purchased: 2008

Why the Owner Chose Upper East Side

New York City is the greatest city you will ever experience and I fulfilled a lifelong dream when I bought this one bedroom in the Upper East Side/Yorkville neighborhood. I was renting in the East Village and decided that while the energy of the Village was great, I wanted to be able to more easily enjoy some nature and quiet time in Central Park/UES. I chose this one bedroom because it is 3 blocks from Central Park, but also 3 blocks from the 4/5/6 subway station at 86th Street. For quick access to to midtown, the village, and downtown, being near an express subway (the 4/5 train) is critical (the 6 train is local and makes all stops through Manhattan). My place is on the 5th/top floor of a walk-up building and the bedroom faces the back courtyard. This is ideal because you don't have to hear neighbors stomping around on top of you nor street noise. The extra steps are very worth the peace and quiet you get to enjoy when you're getting a great night's sleep to refresh for another exciting day in NYC.

The Unique Benefits at this Condominium

5 minute walk to Central Park, the Met Museum, the Gugenheim, and the express/local 4/5/6 subway station. Close to Gracie Mansion and Shurz Park overlooking the East River. Remodeled stainless steel/granite kitchen, hardwood floors, 9 ft ceilings, and more.

A
The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met)

The Met has a permanent collection containing more than two million works of art, divided into nineteen curatorial departments and is one of the world's largest art galleries.

B
Guggenheim Museum

One of the best-known museums in New York City and one of the 20th century's most important architectural landmarks. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the museum––which is often called simply The Guggen

C
Lexington Ave Subway, 86th St - 4/5/6 Train

The 86th Street Station serves the Express 4 and 5 train to get downtown quickly or up to Yankee Stadium (4 train only) as well as the Local 6 train that serves all Lexington Ave stations in Manhattan

D
Crumbs Bakeshop

The famous cupcakes at Crumbs.

E
Amber Asian Cuisine

Amber is one of my favorite spots, great variety of sushi and Asian dishes for moderate prices. Cool atmosphere and decor. Say Hi to Rachel at the bar if you stop in.

F
Keens Steak House

A friend I met at Amber says this is the best steak place in the city after Peter Luger's. I haven't tried it, but I'm going to check it out soon.

Owner's Map of Upper East Side

Bryan is a consultant with IBM who travels nearly 90% of the time for work. He moved back east in 2007 after spending 10 years in Colorado. After living in the East Village for a year, he found the Upper East Side to be a much nicer location while still convenient to all of the things to see and do in Lower Manhattan and the Village.

    • I had an enjoyable week's stay in this apartment. Great location and generally quiet. There are lots of shops and services within easy walking distance, plus all the museums on 'the mile' and Central Park. The owner was efficient in following up on the reservation and with sending everything I need to access the apartment. I'd recommend it to someone or a couple wanting to stay on the Upper Eastside.

    • This apartment is very conveniently located - close to Central Park, close to the Metropolitan Museum and Guggenheim, and a two minute walk from the 86 or 77 street subway. The apartment itself is well-equipped and comfortable and the owner is extremely helpful and efficient in helping to get things organised. I'd thoroughly recommend the apartment as a great place to stay for a single, couple or small family. The only thing to consider are the four flights of stairs in a building without a lift.

      Homeowner Response:
Chris, thanks for visiting and I hope the stairs were well worth the location. I'd always be glad to have you back for another visit if you come to NY.
