The Casita del Sol is a comfortable hideaway with a dynamite view over the downtown area of San Miguel, which is a lovely 20-minute walk away, down tree-shaded cobble-stone streets. The Casita is located in the prestigious Atascadero area. This home boasts two master suites with en suite bathrooms, plus a small bedroom out by the pool (suitable only to hardy or teen-agers), a pool bath/changing room, lovely gardens, fabulous views and a free-formed heated swimming pool.
The house and pool are fully enclosed a wall, but the pool is open to the garden, and care must be exercise by parents. The owner, and his employees, bear no responibility for accidents.

One enters Casita del Sol ("Sunny Cottage") through the unassuming doorway (next to a self-opening garage door), into a pretty garden with grass, flowers, orange and pomegranate trees. The home appears to be a low-lying bungalow with a red tile roof. But appearances are deceiving, you'll find, as you enter a spacious living/dining room with a beamed cathedral ceiling and with the vast vista of town, hillsides and distant mountains through the picture windows and French doors. A balcony runs the entire length of the living/dining room, a perfect spot for al fresco dining or the de rigueur margarita at sunset.

The living room is furnished in comfortable locally-made equipale furniture, numerous plants and a wood-burning fireplace. On your left as you enter the house is the kitchen, accented with Mexican tile work, a large chimney over the stove, and all major and minor appliances. Adjoining the kitchen is a small pantry with a skylight roof. In addition, there is a half-bath off the living room for guests.

Descending the interesting wooden spiral staircase, you arrive at the lower poolside level. The master bedroom is commodious, with a king bed, sitting area with fireplace, TV and en suite bathroom with tub. A second bedroom also has a nice sitting area, queen bed, and en suite bathroom with shower. Both bedrooms have banks of closets on one wall. Across the pool terrace is a tiny bedroom (no closet) with a twin bed and a Murphy bed. Next door, there is bath with shower also serves as a changing room for pool guests.

Every amenity has been taken into consideration, so that guests will be comfortable: satellite radio with over 100 stations, electric mattress pads as well as down comforters on all beds, chaise lounge chairs in bedrooms and by the pool, cable TV, VCR, massage table, local telephone, wireless broadband internet connection (for your laptop) and laundry area with automatic washer and clothes line. In addition, Chila the maid and Trini the gardener come three times a week, plus a pool man stops by as needed.

San Miguel is the cultural center of Mexico, a colonial city declared a national monument by the government, and chosen once again by Conde-Nast's outstanding magazine to be on the top ten list of international cities not to be missed by the discriminating traveler. Come and see how affordable the good life can be!! Deep discount also, for the long-term renters!!
