Accommodations: Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 3)
This charming, cozy, and well-equipped apartment is located in the heart of Montmartre, in the 18th arrondissement where both legend and history have fused to create a colorful village atmosphere. It is 1/2 block from the Abbesses metro stop; a 5 minute walk up the winding cobbled street of the apartment takes you to the Sacre Coeur basilica and the famous Place du Tertre, home to a lively artist colony. The rue Ravignan is a quiet, residential hill perpendicular to the rue des Abbesses. Down the rue des Abbesses you will find the lovely rue Lepic --and within these several blocks are dozens of the many food specialty shops that make Paris a most visual and sensory experience, the smell of warm baguettes coming out of the ovens at least 3 times a day, the enticing aroma of strawberries at their peak in the spring, the absolute ready-to-eat-and-nearly-always-perfect peaches, nectarines, and melons that the grocer will choose for you, and the earthy chanterelles at a ridiculously wonderful and irresistible price (to go with your haricots verts mais oui!!)..
The enchanting neighborhood is also full of small squares and parks, boutiques, flower shops, cafes (great for a drink, a coffee, a salad, or a meal at any time of the day or night!), small and intimate restaurants and bistros much frequented by locals (and referenced in the apartment Guest Log Book).. Montmartre begs to be explored on foot, often with no particular destination in mind, a place where wandering and meandering can be an art and have the potential to create cherished memories... Allow for the unexpected ..
Located one flight up the courtyard stairs, the sunny living room in the apartment overlooks a pedestrian stairway, and the shady bedroom overlooks the courtyard. Since neither of the two rooms is located on a street, the apartment is free of street noise. The bedroom is quiet and private, cozy in winter and cool in summer; the extra long queen size mattress is state-of-the-art. The galley kitchen is compact but provides all you need to prepare a simple morning repast with a fresh baguette from the boulangerie across the street and perhaps some fruit and eggs from the little grocery around the corner, or a dinner in after shopping the nearby streets for the freshest of fish, meat, and gorgeous and fragrant produce.. You can set a beautiful table with colorful placemats, cloth napkins, color coordinated dishes and wine glasses.. The living room by day is sunny and cheerful; the dining table is very compact and versatile, folding down to console size or out to seat four.
Though small, (270 sq ft) this charming pied-a-terre accommodates the traveler's needs well.. as a respite after a busy day touring Paris, lingering over a cup of tea in the living room, enjoying the comfy chair by the window --feet up with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, relaxing and recharging in the sweet and romantic bedroom --well, it is Paris after all! and I will do all I can to make your stay as joyful and peaceful and wonderful as possible.

Why the Owner Chose Paris Arrondissement 18
We stayed at this apt as renters first in 1999, fell in love with it, and when it became available for sale in 2004, we decided to go for it. We continue to be enchanted with Montmartre, its local charm, its access to the rest of Paris, and our explorations of Paris usually begin with a walk out the apt door and a possible destination. Sometimes we make it to the destination and sometimes not; that's the simple pleasure of Montmartre!
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
We love our coffee and breakfast in the apt, moving at our own pace, cracking a super fresh egg in the fry pan, a fresh warm baguette and friendly bonjour from the woman at the boulangerie across the street, leisurely deciding where the day will take us ...after a day walking and touring Paris, a respite in the late afternoon, resting, reading, getting ready to go out again at 8 in a search for the perfect dining spot that evening... deciding to budget down occasionally by dining in with take-out from one of the many Asian restaurants nearby or making our own moules-frites chez nous ...we love calling it home in Paris.
Owner's Map of Paris Arrondissement 18
My husband and I are a cabinetmaker and an art teacher respectively, married 26 years, and both of us have lived in Berkeley since the 60's. I have had an ongoing love affair with Paris since childhood and I managed to lure my husband in with me (food, wine, art, long walks, etc!). We had traveled separately to Europe before we met and returned several times over the years beginning with our month-long stay following our marriage. The first time we stayed in this apt was as renters 10 years ago with our then-14-year-old son. It was magical for all of us! The desire in any of our travels is to continue the journey...
