Why the Owner Chose Inverness

The property is adjacent to Pt. Reyes National Seashore -- many beautiful beaches, hiking trails, and wild life. We have owned the property for nearly 20 years and just built this small weekend house this year.

The Unique Benefits at this House

hiking, quiet, extraordinary views, family time, watching blu-ray movies on the new HDTV, spending time in the hot tub relaxing.

Owner's Map of Inverness

Dan and Barb Easterlin. We lived on the property for several years until 1995, the year our first child was born. We love visiting Point Reyes -- the beaches, the hiking trails, the Douglas Firs and Cypress. We feel lucky to have the new cabin, perched on Inverness Ridge -- and are so happy to share it with others who might also enjoy the peaceful and restorative energy this place offers.

Beautiful place on a ridge top - simple elegance comes to mind.

Great place to relax, meditate, and enjoy the view. What a treasure just an hour or so from SF. Stayed in the middle of winter so enjoyed the hot tub on a windy rainy afternoon and another time was in awe of the stillness and the stars in the dark night sky (and saw some shooting stars too). Just a few minutes walk to some nice ridge top trails. Appreciate all the details - comfortable sittings spots, well equipped kitchen, ipod dock, and comfortable bed and bath tub. The whole place feels really peaceful and comfortable - a reflection of the owners I am sure. And everything was well maintained. Look forward to visiting in the warmer months as well. Point Reyes National Park has so much to explore.

I always hate to rave about places that I want to keep to myself, but we enjoyed this beautiful property so much! It was a perfect getaway from the City - quiet, beautiful, and serene - but with all the comforts of home. Wine on the deck every night as the sun set and the stars came out. One of the most well-equipped kitchens and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever experienced in a rental. Barbara was such a gracious host leading up to our stay. We can't wait to return next year.

Owner response:Dear John, I was reviewing the VRBO reviews today and saw yours about the Inverness hosue. It was so nice ... thank you so much! We really appreciate your wonderful feedback and hope you will return sometime. All the best, Barbara

We went on a weekend trip and could not have had a better time. Whether it was sitting in the hot tub and enjoying the amazing view or grabbing fresh oysters and mussels locally and cooking them up in the kitchen, this spot is ideal. All you could ask for and not a single problem. Thank you for making our weekend a special one! We are talking about making this a yearly ritual.

Marvelous all around

I'm writing a few months late -- we stayed in this fabulous house in July 2010 -- but wanted to confirm all the great things that have already been said. This is a beautiful, clean and well-equipped home in a simply breathtaking setting. Sitting out on the deck with morning coffee or evening glass of wine made us reluctant to ever leave, though the hiking in the area is terrific and the towns are great to explore with good food to be had in each one. Our teenage daughters loved the loft and the lower-level master bedroom is so serene. The owners were lovely to deal with. The only caveat I would offer is that the road up to the house is very steep (at least for midwesterners like us), so I would be sure not to do it the first time in the dark. The payoff are the great views, though, so it is worth it.

Owner response:Thank you so much for the positive comments! We are so pleased you enjoyed your time on the ridge and in the house. I generally caution people about the road up to the house. It is well paved, but it is definitely steep in parts (the road sign says up to 20%), but after the first trip up, it becomes fairly routine. Hope you will return!

Heaven on Earth

This house definitely lives up to the description. Everything you could possibly need is at this house. The owner went out of her way to make sure our peace and quiet was not disturbed. Sitting on the beautiful deck, hearing nothing but the birds, and feeling all of the tension just slip away. Hot-tubbing under the profusion of stars was delightful. Providing an IPod dock was great, as we listened to our smooth jazz in the evening while enjoying the fabulous views. It would be hard to stay anywhere else in the Point Reyes area, now that we've experienced this lovely home.

Warm and Wonderful

Our stay was wonderful, warmed by the beauty of the landscape and the special touches surrounding you in this sweet home...even in January. The pictures on the site are only a small taste of the experience you will have. It had everything we needed and more. The view changed as the weather expressed its self in different patterns; each more amazing. Pt. Reyes National Seashore has more choices then you can possibly do. My favorite is the Pierce Point hike where you almost always see herds of Tule Elk. The are huge and majestic. Then there are the beaches, waterfalls, kayaking, the loud calls of the many sea lions that gather at Chimney Rock. Cyclist will find some great miles both on and off the road. Pt. Reyes Station is a fun town with lots of interesting shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend this rental. It is just wonderful.

magical family spot in Inverness!

Guest: Patty (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 01/22/10 Review Submitted: 02/15/11

We spent a wonderful three days in this beautiful home in January. The house had plenty of room for a family of four, plus guests. The kids loved sleeping in the loft and looking out into the hills and trees. We all enjoyed the hot tub overlooking the bay and had some really special moments enjoying the magnificent view on the main floor deck that we will always treasure. The kitchen was really well stocked with top of the line appliances and cookware and made it very easy to prepare our meals. There was a paved parking area where the kids played four square and catch and the master bedroom was perfect for the grownups. We visited the tule elk, local beaches, hiked at the Pt. Reyes Visitor Center, and drove out the light house. The house was very central and provided easy access for our day trips. We highly recommend this house - it is a very special rental and so well maintained. It truly feels like a home away from home!

Fabulous Retreat Complete With All of the Comforts of Home!

Guest: Andrea (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 01/07/11 Review Submitted: 02/15/11

This was our third time staying at this cabin, and it just gets better every time! There are so many trails, beaches, and undiscovered areas that are so close that there is always something to do. The cabin itself is a cross between home and a hotel. All of the necessities are provided (full kitchen, games, movies, cable, internet, phone, etc.) and we felt right at home. Having breakfast on the deck every morning and enjoying the panoramic views is such a great and relaxing way to start the day. I highly recommend staying here if you'll be in the area! You'll be so glad that you did. The owners are so nice to deal with, very flexible and genuinely want you to enjoy yourself! Thanks so much for making this available!

We've stayed here twice and want to come back again, and again. There is something about the far reaches of West Marin that sloughs off the stress. This house is beautifully furnished, well cared for, and has breath taking views over the valley. Every time I come here I feel renewed.

Priceless view and fantastic hot tub

Guest: 1D1J1H (Long Beach)
Date of Stay: 10/28/10 Review Submitted: 02/14/11

We stayed in this lovely family cottage in October 2010 with our extremely active then 20 month old son. The owner was very accommodating even switching laundry detergent to fragrance free to accommodate my allergy to fabric softener and heavy fragrances. The house was well appointed. It was great that the kitchen already contained all the basics like spices, salad dressing, sugar, oil and even canned foods and cereals. There was a small tasteful supply of magazines and games around We enjoyed the Jacuzzi under the stars immensely. The only downside which was just really a mismatch between our family and the house was it wasn't ideal for our active boy. We were kindly provided with a baby gate which was helpful inside the house. However, since the property is newly constructed, when walking on the steep non-landscaped areas below the house (not something anyone except a toddler would want to do) we found a few nails on the ground and we also found some pieces of glass. If only our boy would have been content to relax on the nice and baby safe decks! A slightly younger child or older more sensible one would probably be fine. The other problem was the extra sleeping loft which would be awesome for older children was accessed by a ladder that my son was constantly trying to climb. Keeping him off the ladder was a battle ultimately requiring us to rearrange the nice furniture into a barrier and messing up the well thought out fung shui of the room :) We made the owner aware of these issues after our stay. She was very accommodating, concerned owner and said they would be addressed. Finally, I agree the drive up the hill was a bit of a drag but the reward of a spectacular view with no traffic noise was worth it. When our son is a bit older, if we are in the area again, we would definitely consider a return this cottage gem with a priceless view.

Owner response:This guest’s feedback resulted in a thorough scouring of the area on the slope below the house for anything that might be hazardous (this area referred to is a actually a forest with no footpaths that we never imagined people would try to access.) Presently, the whole property is safe for people and pets, though we now request that guests not venture onto the steep unlandscaped areas of the slope because it adds to erosion of the hillside. Given all of the wonderful hiking destinations within walking distance of the house, there are plenty of other more inviting options for exploring the area. Finally, the loft ladder is engineered to move to a position flat on the wall which should render it ineffective for climbing.
