Wonderful!

What an extraordinary and lovely home, and how lucky we are that the owners share it with all of us. From the incredible views to the Coyuchi bed linens, this place has it all. I actually hesitated to write a review because I don't want it to get too popular! We will definitely return and look forward to doing it again soon. Thank you!

Treehouse Retreat

Guest: Jillian (Alameda, CA)
Date of Stay: 04/13/12 Review Submitted: 04/19/12

We drove only 90 minutes to arrive in this serene treehouse located on a ridge top overlooking Tomales Bay, but it felt like we were in another world. The house is completely surrounded by vistas and treetops. There were views from every single vantage point in the house. Two wrap around decks with a hot tub to sit and stargaze. We enjoyed the hiking trails less than 1/2 mile from the house, but honestly, the place is so well situated that you don't even need to go anywhere to feel completely immersed in nature. My 2-year old can now recognize a red-tailed hawk! The owner (Barb) was extremely helpful from beginning to end. I emailed her about nearby playgrounds and she responded with great intel in minutes. I have been a big VRBO user for years, and can honestly say that this has been one of my best vacation house experiences yet. Thanks Barb! We will be back!

We are leaving this wonderful place tomorrow. This is an amazing Inverness home. The owner, Barabara, was exceptionally thoughtful - the layout of the home was also very thoughtful. Someone had fun designing this place! Everything about the description of the home was accurate and perhaps a little understated. It's better than advertised! Thanks Barbara and Dan for a wonderful 3 days at your Inverness special gem!

Beautiful place on a ridge top - simple elegance comes to mind.

Great place to relax, meditate, and enjoy the view. What a treasure just an hour or so from SF. Stayed in the middle of winter so enjoyed the hot tub on a windy rainy afternoon and another time was in awe of the stillness and the stars in the dark night sky (and saw some shooting stars too). Just a few minutes walk to some nice ridge top trails. Appreciate all the details - comfortable sittings spots, well equipped kitchen, ipod dock, and comfortable bed and bath tub. The whole place feels really peaceful and comfortable - a reflection of the owners I am sure. And everything was well maintained. Look forward to visiting in the warmer months as well. Point Reyes National Park has so much to explore.

We went on a weekend trip and could not have had a better time. Whether it was sitting in the hot tub and enjoying the amazing view or grabbing fresh oysters and mussels locally and cooking them up in the kitchen, this spot is ideal. All you could ask for and not a single problem. Thank you for making our weekend a special one! We are talking about making this a yearly ritual.

I always hate to rave about places that I want to keep to myself, but we enjoyed this beautiful property so much! It was a perfect getaway from the City - quiet, beautiful, and serene - but with all the comforts of home. Wine on the deck every night as the sun set and the stars came out. One of the most well-equipped kitchens and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever experienced in a rental. Barbara was such a gracious host leading up to our stay. We can't wait to return next year.

Owner response:Dear John, I was reviewing the VRBO reviews today and saw yours about the Inverness hosue. It was so nice ... thank you so much! We really appreciate your wonderful feedback and hope you will return sometime. All the best, Barbara

Marvelous all around

I'm writing a few months late -- we stayed in this fabulous house in July 2010 -- but wanted to confirm all the great things that have already been said. This is a beautiful, clean and well-equipped home in a simply breathtaking setting. Sitting out on the deck with morning coffee or evening glass of wine made us reluctant to ever leave, though the hiking in the area is terrific and the towns are great to explore with good food to be had in each one. Our teenage daughters loved the loft and the lower-level master bedroom is so serene. The owners were lovely to deal with. The only caveat I would offer is that the road up to the house is very steep (at least for midwesterners like us), so I would be sure not to do it the first time in the dark. The payoff are the great views, though, so it is worth it.

Owner response:Thank you so much for the positive comments! We are so pleased you enjoyed your time on the ridge and in the house. I generally caution people about the road up to the house. It is well paved, but it is definitely steep in parts (the road sign says up to 20%), but after the first trip up, it becomes fairly routine. Hope you will return!

Heaven on Earth

This house definitely lives up to the description. Everything you could possibly need is at this house. The owner went out of her way to make sure our peace and quiet was not disturbed. Sitting on the beautiful deck, hearing nothing but the birds, and feeling all of the tension just slip away. Hot-tubbing under the profusion of stars was delightful. Providing an IPod dock was great, as we listened to our smooth jazz in the evening while enjoying the fabulous views. It would be hard to stay anywhere else in the Point Reyes area, now that we've experienced this lovely home.

Fabulous Retreat Complete With All of the Comforts of Home!

This was our third time staying at this cabin, and it just gets better every time! There are so many trails, beaches, and undiscovered areas that are so close that there is always something to do. The cabin itself is a cross between home and a hotel. All of the necessities are provided (full kitchen, games, movies, cable, internet, phone, etc.) and we felt right at home. Having breakfast on the deck every morning and enjoying the panoramic views is such a great and relaxing way to start the day. I highly recommend staying here if you'll be in the area! You'll be so glad that you did. The owners are so nice to deal with, very flexible and genuinely want you to enjoy yourself! Thanks so much for making this available!

Priceless view and fantastic hot tub

Date of Stay: 10/28/10 Review Submitted: 02/14/11

We stayed in this lovely family cottage in October 2010 with our extremely active then 20 month old son. The owner was very accommodating even switching laundry detergent to fragrance free to accommodate my allergy to fabric softener and heavy fragrances. The house was well appointed. It was great that the kitchen already contained all the basics like spices, salad dressing, sugar, oil and even canned foods and cereals. There was a small tasteful supply of magazines and games around We enjoyed the Jacuzzi under the stars immensely. The only downside which was just really a mismatch between our family and the house was it wasn't ideal for our active boy. We were kindly provided with a baby gate which was helpful inside the house. However, since the property is newly constructed, when walking on the steep non-landscaped areas below the house (not something anyone except a toddler would want to do) we found a few nails on the ground and we also found some pieces of glass. If only our boy would have been content to relax on the nice and baby safe decks! A slightly younger child or older more sensible one would probably be fine. The other problem was the extra sleeping loft which would be awesome for older children was accessed by a ladder that my son was constantly trying to climb. Keeping him off the ladder was a battle ultimately requiring us to rearrange the nice furniture into a barrier and messing up the well thought out fung shui of the room :) We made the owner aware of these issues after our stay. She was very accommodating, concerned owner and said they would be addressed. Finally, I agree the drive up the hill was a bit of a drag but the reward of a spectacular view with no traffic noise was worth it. When our son is a bit older, if we are in the area again, we would definitely consider a return this cottage gem with a priceless view.

Owner response:This guest’s feedback resulted in a thorough scouring of the area on the slope below the house for anything that might be hazardous (this area referred to is a actually a forest with no footpaths that we never imagined people would try to access.) Presently, the whole property is safe for people and pets, though we now request that guests not venture onto the steep unlandscaped areas of the slope because it adds to erosion of the hillside. Given all of the wonderful hiking destinations within walking distance of the house, there are plenty of other more inviting options for exploring the area. Finally, the loft ladder is engineered to move to a position flat on the wall which should render it ineffective for climbing.

Perfect get away

Guest: Laura & Ted (Sunnyvale, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/16/10 Review Submitted: 08/29/10

My husband and I and our two daughters stayed in August. We love Inverness and have visited many times. This is our first time staying at this house - the views of Tomalas Bay are beautiful. The house is great, tastefully decorated, and the location perfect - very peaceful and comfortable. So many things to do, we enjoyed whale watching from Pt Reyes Lighthouse and Chimney Rock, a walk on Drakes Beach, lunch in Marshall, the Bovine Bakery in Pt. Reyes Station. A short walk from the house for trails to Mt. Vision or all the way to Limantour Beach. We cooked our dinners and enjoyed the views while we ate on the deck overlooking the bay below. Nothing but good things to say - my husband and I are going back for our anniversary.

We've stayed here twice and want to come back again, and again. There is something about the far reaches of West Marin that sloughs off the stress. This house is beautifully furnished, well cared for, and has breath taking views over the valley. Every time I come here I feel renewed.

Beautiful home, perfect vacation.

Date of Stay: 06/07/10 Review Submitted: 06/11/10

Myself, my husband, 5 y.o. and mother stayed here for 3 nights in June. It is quite a steep, curvy road coming into the property but the views are worth the drive up the ridge. This home is clean and very well-designed and very well-built (hubby is an architect so he knows!) My mother was unable to sleep in the loft but there is a nook in the main living area that has a built in daybed that was perfect for her to sleep. My daughter loved having a loft to sleep in and we retreated to our downstairs master bedroom with lovely soft Calvin Klein bedding. The owners supply everything you need, lots of towels, great kitchen with all cooking gear and a wonderful hot tub on the deck. We loved this house, it is beautifully decorated, amazing views and the owner is lovely to communicate with and gave us lots of helpful tips for places to eat and beaches to go to. We really did not want to leave. Do not miss this wonderful property!

This house is a comfy, fresh, light, clean retreat perched on a ridge overlooking Tomales Bay. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen and the sparkling clean hot tub. The view is glorious from every level inside and out. The location is charming and peaceful. During our stay this March, it was a pleasure to watch the weather change, to spot raptors flying above and down below, to see dawn and twilight develop, and to hear the wind in the trees. Over the years, we have stayed many places near the Point Reyes National Seashore. This is now our favorite.

magical family spot in Inverness!

Guest: Patty (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 01/22/10 Review Submitted: 02/15/11

We spent a wonderful three days in this beautiful home in January. The house had plenty of room for a family of four, plus guests. The kids loved sleeping in the loft and looking out into the hills and trees. We all enjoyed the hot tub overlooking the bay and had some really special moments enjoying the magnificent view on the main floor deck that we will always treasure. The kitchen was really well stocked with top of the line appliances and cookware and made it very easy to prepare our meals. There was a paved parking area where the kids played four square and catch and the master bedroom was perfect for the grownups. We visited the tule elk, local beaches, hiked at the Pt. Reyes Visitor Center, and drove out the light house. The house was very central and provided easy access for our day trips. We highly recommend this house - it is a very special rental and so well maintained. It truly feels like a home away from home!

Warm and Wonderful

Date of Stay: 01/21/10 Review Submitted: 02/21/11

Our stay was wonderful, warmed by the beauty of the landscape and the special touches surrounding you in this sweet home...even in January. The pictures on the site are only a small taste of the experience you will have. It had everything we needed and more. The view changed as the weather expressed its self in different patterns; each more amazing. Pt. Reyes National Seashore has more choices then you can possibly do. My favorite is the Pierce Point hike where you almost always see herds of Tule Elk. The are huge and majestic. Then there are the beaches, waterfalls, kayaking, the loud calls of the many sea lions that gather at Chimney Rock. Cyclist will find some great miles both on and off the road. Pt. Reyes Station is a fun town with lots of interesting shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend this rental. It is just wonderful.
