Welcome to Mapuana, a beautiful and newly remodeled home on the north shore of Kauai just 2.3 miles from road’s end and the fabled NaPali Coast. The 200 foot private drive leads you to a secluded oasis. This scrupulously maintained home surrounds you with simple luxury and lush Hawaiian themes to enhance your vacation in tropical paradise. Mapuana features vaulted ceilings and Brazilian cherry wood floors throughout the main floor. Banks of sliding doors open to take advantage of the spacious wrap-around lanai. The handsomely furnished top floor lanai catches cool breezes and provides a private sun deck. It’s the perfect place to gaze at the lush tropical foliage and swaying palm trees and listen to the sounds of birds singing, roosters crowing and ocean waves lapping the shore.
Newly decorated with Hawaiiana and aloha hospitality, there are four inviting bedrooms (two upstairs - each with a queen bed and two downstairs - each with two twin beds). There is a full bathroom located on each level plus an outdoor tropical shower. The fully appointed kitchen is stocked with every cooking tool you might need and includes granite counter-tops, as do both bathrooms. The formal dining area seats eight at a solid teak table.
The bottom level has covered parking for two vehicles, a barbeque area with new gas grill, outdoor dining area, storage for beach amenities and a selection of beach toys and gear. The enclosed outdoor hot/cold shower is perfect for rinsing off the white sand after a day at the beach. The full size washer/dryer in the downstairs laundry room makes it easy to bring just one bag and stay for weeks! (Linens, bath towels and beach towels are provided.)
The spacious yard is meticulously and lushly landscaped, filled with a variety of indigenous Hawaiian tropical plantings including colorful plumerias, pink and red gingers, hibiscus, fragrant ylang-ylang, papaya, banana and coconut palm trees.
Best of all, the warm Pacific Ocean is just steps from your door. Just a short 100 yard walk takes you to one of the most secluded beaches on the Island; world-class, white sand beaches stretch for miles in both directions. Enjoy the tranquility of this extraordinary area nestled between emerald mountains and azure seas. Snorkelers will find clear, pristine waters and a vast array of multi-colored fish. On any given day you can encounter turtles, spinner dolphins, whales or the occasional Monk seal coming out to play.
Kauai's main vacation attraction remains its natural splendor. You'll cross seven charming one-lane bridges to get to Haena, a small oceanfront, residential community situated four miles beyond Hanalei. Haena is the northernmost point on Kauai and offers the island's best access to outdoor activities and scenic wonders. Swim with turtles at world-famous Tunnels Beach, just a 7 minute walk from Mapuana. Swim and sunbathe at nearby Lumahai Beach or Haena Cove and watch the kite surfers at Kepuhi Point. Hike the NaPali coast or watch the sun set behind Makana (Bali Hai). Among the most beautiful places on Earth, here you will discover waterfalls, lush green jungles, gorgeous deserted beaches, fabulous hiking trails, unparalleled snorkeling, picturesque kite surfers and spectacular sunsets.
An exquisite 2.3 mile run, walk or drive from Mapuana brings you to the end of the road and the Haena State Park, home to Ke’e Beach, renowned for its snorkeling, sunsets and the start of the reknowned Kalalau Trail. The 11-mile Kalalau Trail winds along the rugged Na Pali coastline and crosses one stunning beach after another, beginning with Ke’e. The fabled Na Pali Coast is celebrated for its magnificent 3000 feet high emerald green cliffs rising above the Pacific; its waterfalls cascading down to the azure water.
Retrace your way across the seven one-lane bridges to quaint Hanalei town for a gourmet meal, shave ice, or a glimpse of local color at one of the bi-weekly Farmers' Markets featuring delectable tropical fruits and exotic flowers. Further down the road, the Princeville Resort is home to two of the world’s best golf courses, and a world-class spa. Helicopter tours, horseback rides, kayaking and zip-ling are also available in Princeville. Closer to home, a three minute walk takes you to the charming Hanalei Colony outpost where you can have a seaside massage at the quaint day spa, the world's best blended mochas and homemade cinnamon rolls at the café or enjoy beachfront dining at the Mediterranean restaurant.
Our repeat guests love staying at Mapuana because of its fabulous location, large serene private yard, the airy spaciousness of the home and the GREAT VALUE. Here’s what one of them had to say:
'We just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our vacation in your beautiful home. Everything was just lovely and so relaxing. We enjoyed hearing the ocean waves at night and the birds singing in the morning. The house was the cleanest, best kept house we have ever rented on a vacation, and you thought of everything a guest could need in the house. It was the perfect vacation and we'll be back!'

Wonderful stay - we enjoyed the beach within walking distance - perfect for the kids and quiet. Swimming with turtles was fantastic at Anini and the hike up to the falls at the end of the road was magnificent. Also try out paddle boarding at Hanalei -- loads of fun. A great stay - we are not looking forward to the flight back to snowy Edmonton. Mahalo!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a warm, magical, inviting home. Our family enjoyed it immensely, particularly our tiny one who loved chasing geckos, twittering around the lanai and hopping in the fabulous tradewinds. Going back home will be awful but thankfully we have memories of Mapuana to get us through the cold, wet winter. Mahalo for sharing this wonderful space with us!Did you find this review helpful? We had a wonderful time during our stay at Mapuana, we have enjoyed sunny afternoons and drizzly evenings on the lanai and beautiful walks along the path to the beach. The home was a perfect size for our two families and we really hate to leave! Favorite memories include: geckos on the screen, sea turtles at Tunnels, summer storms, shave ice with macadamia ice cream and kayaking the river. Can't wait to come back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We are so glad that we found this gem of a house. It has been perfect for our family. We really appreciated all of the little extras that the house came with (kitchen & bath supplies, towels, etc.). The location was ideal, quiet yet close to the beach. It is bitter sweet to go back home and we would love to stay here again when we come back. Thank you for everything.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: We live in Los Angeles, California with our two school age children. While we enjoy the benefits of the city we enjoy getting away from it all when we go on vacation. We joke that we bought our house in Kauai as an insurance policy so our kids will always want to vacation with us -- even when they are teenagers! They love being so close to the beach; we go there every day when we're on island. They also love to play in the large private yard. And we love having plenty of room to invite our friends and family to come share our slice of paradise.
Why the Owner Chose Haena:
We searched for 7 years to find the perfect house in Kauai. Before we had children we owned a small condo on the south shore. We were looking to get away from the massive development that continues to go on down south. We wanted a house in a place that could never be spoiled by condo and hotel developments. The quaint 7 one-lane bridges that separate charming Hanalei from secluded Haena ensure that no encroaching developments will ever take place in our beach town. Unlike many of the 'suburban' developments elsewhere on Kauai, this is the way Old Hawaii used to be but with all the modern conveniences and simple luxury we enjoy on vacation. We also wanted to be close enough to the fabulous beaches to ensure a quick walk and the peaceful sounds of the ocean day and night. But we didn't want the wear and tear, and overly loud crashing waves one finds living right on the beach. Mapuana gave us the privacy and the perfect location we were looking for!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our favorite beach activities are snorkeling, surfing, boogie boarding and stand up paddling. We also enjoy running the 2.3 miles to the end of the road and hiking the spectacular 11 mile Kalalau Trail. The run to and from the end of the island is so beautiful it's hard to come home and run on our city streets! The kids love to play in the large lushly landscaped private yard. Our son loves to practice his pitching and catching and our daughter loves to practice her gymnastics on the lawn. Meanwhile we enjoy reading and relaxing on the beautiful lanai. We could listen to the ocean and the wind in the swaying palms all afternoon. After a full day of fun in the sun we love to visit some of our favorite restaurants for dinner; just a short but stunning drive to Hanalei. After dinner, we always save room for shaved ice!
