Manzanita is the jewel of the North Coast, perfect for beach walks along the seven mile stretch from Neahkahnie headland to the Nehalem Bay jetty, mountain hikes, biking and kayaking. There is even a nine hole golf course in town. The town of Manzanita offers several grocery stores and an organic foods market, an organic clothing store as well as an upscale women's boutique, two day spas, a fair trade gift shop and a whole range of restaurants.
Our four year old Craftsman home just outside of Manzanita in the more woodsy area of Neahkahnie was designed by a local architect to capitalize on the ocean, mountain and secluded garden views. This beautiful house, built as a guest house for our family, is a tranquil retreat with large areas of garden, lawn, woods and a creek running through the property. This is definitely NOT a party house! If you care about your physical surroundings, you will love this property.
We live next door, but are not intrusive and you probably won't even see us during your stay. We rent to people seeking a peaceful time at the ocean, not those looking for a big gathering. The house works best for one or two couples and two children. We will not rent to groups of more than six. No smoking or pets allowed.
This well-cared for home belongs to our children and we rent it only to people who like to stay in a beautifully-made home and who are willing to treat it as if it is their own. There is parking for two cars in the driveway. Parking on the street is not very popular with neighbors.
The upper floor is light and airy. The living room area has an adjoining ocean-view deck, a wood-burning stove, a cozy window seat and lots of books, CDs and games for guests.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all of the extras for those who like to cook and/or bake. In addition to all the usual appliances, there is a Cuisinart, there is instant hot water, lots of cookbooks and even a desk where you can sit and plan your menu for the barbecue on the large south-facing deck.
This deck also contains a table and chairs for your outdoor eating as well as a hot-tub, easily accessible from the two adult bedrooms downstairs. The third bedroom is perfect for children with twin beds and lots of toys. Both full bathrooms are downstairs, as is the TV room which has lots of videos and DVDs for your enjoyment. Our home sleeps six. If you are planning on a large family gathering, we'd be happy to recommend nearby properties that can accomodate larger groups.
Whether you enjoy watching winter storms at the coast,need a quiet retreat to read or write,love kiteboarding or windsurfing, or just sitting on the deck and listening to the roar of the surf, we think you will love this house.

Why the Owner Chose Manzanita
We built this home right next to ours as a vacation spot for our grown children and grandchildren. The ocean is a short walk downhill and it is only a 20 minute walk to the delightful town center. Within close proximity there are wonderful hiking trails,kayaking,fishing and other water sports.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We go for beach walks on the seven mile long stretch of white sand from Neahkahnie Mountain to Nehalem Bay. The Nehalem River and Bay are perfect for kayaking and a wonderful place for spotting bald eagles, herons and seals. After a hike up to the incredible views at the top of Neahkahnie Mountain, it is pleasant to enjoy a soak in the hot tub on the south deck, surrounded by a creek and gardens. From the west-facing deck one can enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sunset.

One 10 minute walk in your gorgeous, lush,rainforest-esque garden is worth the five and a half hour drive from Bend. We have never even imagined sunsets like those we have seen from your deck. It's a great house for practicing yoga--the light and the location! We enjoyed the good selection of books, the view, the warmth of the house... I could go on and on.
