I was looking for a romantic vacation home in which to surprise my wife. The "cabin with a view" met and exceded my expectations. We both had a wonderful time from enjoying the view during the day and star gazing at night. The cabin was very clean and met all of our needs. We only had to buy our food, and of course, a couple of bottles of wine and we were all set for the weekend. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful and even recommended a local realator at our request so we could explore the area. I highly recommend this cabin, and we will be sure to return when in the area.

Charming house in a quiet location, about 10 mins. from the highway exit, easy to get to. Enjoyed the tire swings, beautiful view and watching the neighbor's horses! Cabin was a bit cold when we arrived and didn't heat up right away so it was a bit cold at night. Temperature was perfect when we woke up in the morning. Good size cabin for a family of 6

The cabin is conveniently located just off Hwy 80. It is close to both Colfax and Dutch Flatts. If you like a nontraditional down home type of vacation, this cabin and area is for you. Both my husband and myself enjoy exploring local handouts and meeting local people. We had drinks at the Red Frog in Colfax which also has a fantastic view to enjoy if you choose to sit outside in the back. From there, we checked out a local thrift store and then went back to the cabin to enjoy some cheese and sour dough bread off the back porch, before we headed out again. Dinner was another great experience at the Monta Vista Inn off the Dutch Flatts exit. Great food with local singing entertainment. The cabin is not fancy but has all the needed amenities. We will definitely come back to check out more local sites!

The Cabin with a View is comfortable and friendly, located in a beautiful part of the Sierra foothills. The rooms are large and have enough space for multiple activities, i.e. adults reading, kids playing. The yard and surrounding landscape are perfect for walks and exploration and we took many hikes looking for sticks and rocks and little (and big) creatures. We had lots of fun on the two big tire swings! Visiting nearby Colfax, Auburn and the gold mine added fun and we ended our trip by visiting friends at Donner Lake, just 45 minutes away, when there is no snow! And, watching the sun rise out the east window is inspiring.

Very good place to wind down. I am in the military and this place was what I needed. Clean, and has everyhing I wanted. The only thing missing was an outside fire pit but the veiw both day and night was pleasent. The other thing that topped the experiance was when I recieved a miltary discount that was not advertised. I would go back again.

We really enjoyed our stay in this cabin. The location was very beautiful, surrounded by pine trees galore. We really enjoyed the early morning sun coming in the large, full-length window in the living room, which had an excellent view of the forest. Although the road to get to the cabin was a little more windy than we liked, we enjoyed the quiet location of the cabin, sitting on the deck reading, or going for walks around the neighborhood. The neighborhood was very small, with the neighbors few and far between. The house was clean and very well stocked, with linen and bright, colorful towels. The well-stocked kitchen enabled us to only need to bring food, and a few other supplies. The bedrooms were nice. The owner was very easy to work with, and we were able to arrange the rental at the last minute. She even gave us a discount rate because the internet was not working during our stay. Some of the attractions that were nice was the hike near Bear River, just east of Colfax. Any one who likes blackberries will enjoy the more than 100 blackberry bushes/trees along the path. For the more adventurous, there is a very rough road deep down into the canyon that goes near one of the forks of the American River (from when Ponderosa Way turns into a dirt road). Colfax turned out to be a nice town just 15 minutes away from the cabin. Tahoe was only 1.5-2 hours or so from the cabin up Highway 80.

My husband and I recently stayed in his home for an extended weekend. To call it a cabin makes it seem small -- in reality it's quiet spacious. The large living area and view outdoors is the highlight of the home. The view is spectacular, and while located only 5 minutes from the highway, the mountain scenery and tranquility made it feel we were much further out in the woods. It's a great space!

My wife and I and two sons flew to Sacramento and met my Mom and my youngest brother to celebrate my mothers eighty fourth birthday. Mom and I have gone hot air ballooning, chartered fishing trips, flown ultalights (she has flown solo), toured in South America, Europe, and many other things you might not expect from ones mother. She asked me to go gold panning on her birthday with her. I asked where and she said somewhere around Colfax, California. I researched a little and found the cabin View house, what a great find! It felt like we were coming home to our mountain home,(we used to live in one similar). We sat in the family room and planned our expedition on the dining table, and set out with goldpans shovels and buckets the next morning. All of the rivers in the area are known to have gold, and we were seeing color in our pans the first day! We were very carefull not to bring in any dirty clothes into the house, we changed clothes in the garage if they were too dirty. If we had rented a hotel it would not have been the same, the house was just perfect. We ate at a wonderful road house in colfax for her birthday dinner and enjoyed prime rib done perfectly for everyone. We saw deer and a ringtail cat just outside the big sliding doors. We all brought home some gold, (nobody got rich), but the real treasure was the time we spent in the cabin view house! Jack and Yenny

My wife stayed here at the beginning of the summer and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we made a special detour from a late summer trip to the Bay Area so we could be here once again before getting back to work in Southern California. It really is a wonderful space and we hope to return very soon.

My family and I stayed at this rental last month for my husband's birthday weekend. We had a great weekend white water rafting and enjoying the view from the patio. The property was clean and well maintained. Although the information on this website is not up to date (the yard is not fully fenced in and the price listed is inaccurate) the owner laid out all the discrepencies in her email to me regarding the property and made sure I was aware of the potential conflicts. The owner was also very responsive and friendly to deal with before and after our trip. The view from the back patio is truly amazing, and it is where we spent most our time. While the interior is clean and well maintained, it is sparsly decorated and outdated. I think that pictures of each room and the living room would help guests better know what to expect. Really this wasn't an issue for us since most of our time was spent out doors. All in all, we had a great time.

My husband and I, two children and our little dog really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The nights were awesome watching the moon come up and stargazing. It was a beautiful view with the mountains and the canyon. Lots of wild life to look for and a beautiful horse next door, which my 1 year old got to pet. We went to the river in the afternoon and wore the kids out so they were in bed early and slept all night. What could be better? Looking forward to staying again.

We stayed there the last week end for a rafting trip. The 2 bathrooms made the stay very easy (for the 4 of us). Great location for those (like us) who want to do a rafting trip on the American River - only 20 min from Auburn. Amazing view from the outside patio - perfect for grilling at night ! The place was clean and well equiped. Price very fair. Would definitely go back.

My husband and I were needing to get away for a last minute weekend. The owner went out of her way to make it all possible on a moment's notice. Sitting on the porch looking out over the mountains, watching the stars come up was exactly what the doctor ordered. The house is clean and spacious, well equipped kitchen, beautiful view from the living/dining room area.

My family including a teenage daughter planned a white water rafting trip over a weekend in Auburn. We wanted a place to stay to continue the mountain experience and this cabin was perfect for that purpose. The cabin is spacious, clean and comfortable. The cabin offer an amazing vista view of the mountains and it feels like you are the only ones on the mountain. In the early morning we sat on the patio and just took in the view. We were able to easily travel to the small towns in the area as the location of the cabin is not to far from route 80 and 49. The cabin fills with light as there are high windows and sliding glass doors. This was the first time we visited the area and we are in love with the area. We will be be back and would recommend the cabin to all our friends.

My wife and I spent a week here and loved it. Far enough from the highway to be peaceful but close enough to be to convenient. Very quiet and comfortable. The view from the living room is beautiful and we really enjoyed sitting on the patio watching the stars. I can't imagine a better value for the price. We will be back!

My wife and I recently spent ten terrific days here. The view is splendid and the entire atmosphere is serene. We packed a stack of DVDs and planned to catch up on movies that we had missed--but every evening we found ourselves just watching the light change as the sun went down on this remarkable view. The DVDs could not compete--we never watched a single one. And we hope to return soon.

We've been back twice since we first stayed here. The view out the large front windows is just fantastic, and it really amazes me how incredibly quiet it is. This is a great retreat in the woods, in a wonderful location.
Owner response:Jef, we thank you for your enthusiastic words! We look forward to hosting your next "getaway"!
