We are a family of 6 who has been coming to Provincetown for many summers. In years past we stayed at the Provincetown Inn, and in hotels further down Cape. This past year we decided to stay in a rental house. We found that this is a much better arrangement than any hotel. The original cottage (its really a house) is very old, but has been remodeled. The own says that it was built more than 100 years ago by a rich woman as a playhouse for her children! It has an enormous, airy living room with views of the bay and lighthouse at the end of the Cape. At one end of the living room is a fireplace and a balcony above it. The deck is also huge and hangs right over the beach. All the bedrooms are charming with higher grade linens, stained glass lamps and Asian rugs on the floors. The only criticisms we had was that the kitchen stove was old, but the owner has told us that he has now replaced it. This was the best rental we ever had on Cape Cod and we will certainly come back again.
Owner response:Thank you for your very kind review!

We had a fire two winters ago. Tenants during the Xmas holidays built a fire in the fireplace and went out to dinner. So the house caught fire. Luckily only the fireplace and the floor around it was damaged. anyway insurance paid enough to do a lot of renovations. We have a new fireplace of course. The living room floor is refinished. All the windows on the bayside are replaced. New curtain tracks, drycleaned all the curtains, new bronze floor registers (for heat), and all of the interior repainted. I also finally built those drawer faces missing in the kitchen, added gates between the houses, and we completely rebuilt the bayside deck with mahogany decking and railings. One interesting change is the coffee table which we replaced with my father's old workbench, refinished and set on short legs. Only a few things are left to do: some brick work on the steps and walk from the street, replacing tile on one bathroom wall, and a few more windows in the front o the house. Then we'll probably start some of it all over again. It never ends :))) I'll post some new pics soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this great windswept, beach front house! It has a spacious great room directly looking out onto the water with a 1200 sqft deck accompanying the back of the house. Tasteful art graces the walls throughout with separate sleeping quarters for up to 4 couples (eight people). You will not want to turn on the tv, look at a newspaper, or even go into town when you stay here. It evokes complete rest and seaside relaxation with friendly neighbors and folks quietly passing by on their beach walks! A must stay!

Sleeps 9. Unusually affordable for being right on the bay beach. We rented a sailboat and were able to beach it at the house, switch crews, and go back out. Very convenient. 15 minute (1 mile) walk to center of Provincetown. 10 minute walk to Provincetown dunes. Quiet at night. Includes two parking spaces, and kayaks for recreation. Stocked with games and puzzles in case of rain. Renters have use of free shared washer and dryer next door at owner's residence. The home was not being rented the week after we were there, and the owner graciously offered to let us stay one or two days extra. Gas stove is indeed new and works well. We cooked many meals with ease. Indoor dining room table big enough for 10. Outdoor picnic table on deck. Owner offered use of outdoor grill as well. It happened to rain much of our trip and we were comfortable to stay in the house and entertain ourselves for long periods. Owner gave us a personal tour of the art in this house as well as his private residence. We appreciated this and admired his close personal connection to the art. Check out the absolutely phenomenal garden across the street.

We have enjoyed ourselves in this "cottage" for the past several years. The beach is out the back door and the sand is wonderful. Kids will love collecting sealife at low tide. The owner is very accomodating and helpful. My dad needs assistance walking and the owner modifed the stairs to ease his travel. The washer and dryer are next door and access is very easy. He willingly loans his bikes and kayaks. The interior is very comfortable and welcoming; the kitchen is fully stocked. We also appreciate the owner's flexibility in arriving and departing. The location is perfect. Far enough away from downtown to enjoy the sounds of the ocean, but close enough for an easy walk to the shops and resturants. Not surprisingly, I don't understand or agree with the comments of the first reviewer. We keep returning because of all the home and owner offer. Our week is a wonderful escape from the daily grind!
Owner response:Hi Tim ! Thanks for that review! Well, I don't understand that first reviewer either. So I went through the house inch by inch with a paintbrush in one hand and a scrubby in the other. And by the way, I replaced the kitchen stove with a new pro style stove. Thanks to everyone for their patience with the old one. This year there are also two new bikes, a new microwave, new bathroom faucets, and other stuff bought for the kitchen and around the house. See you soon :))

The most disgusting house I have ever stayed in. Filthy, moldy. Furniture and beds are so old. Deck is in disrepair and patio furniture was gross. We stayed there last year- 2008. The website photos are old and deceiving.
Owner response:Why did this tenant wait almost one year to post this attack? Her criticism is without merit. The house is cleaned thoroughly after every tenant. All linens and towels, most of which were bought for this season, are laundered. Mattresses are very high quality Hi-Resilience Carbamate foam rubber, costing $800 each. The house was completely repainted inside and out the year before. The deck was redone and railings repainted in the spring of 2008, a few months before she arrived. The patio furniture is also almost new, some bought the year before and some also in spring 2008. There is a completely new sea wall built in April, also before she arrived, and costing $80,000. The photos I post are very accurate and current, showing the house as it is. I think I remember this tenant, arriving with her family, and complaining about a few grains of sand on the living room floor. I explained that I had walked through the house after vacuuming, and that living on the beach, a bit of sand is always brought in with you. After she checked out and I came to clean the house, I found a salad spinner in the sink with a bit of dried spinach in it that an earlier tenant had not cleaned properly. With the spinner was a note from this tenant saying "I found this in the cupboard. Disgusting!" I put a lot of effort into making my house clean, comfortable, and elegant. There are quilts on all beds and many bronze sculptures and paintings throughout. Much of the furniture are valuable antiques. One piece, an antique Chinese desk, was bought by my father during his travels to China in 1930. I rarely have complaints and have always been able to fix these within hours of being told about the problem. Many of my tenants have complemented the historic charm of this unique house.

We had a great season this year. The Cottage was cleaned and painted inside. We added more furniture and rebuilt the kitchen, new counter and sink and fridge. There are new windows on the East wall and soon we'll replace all the others around the house. New screens (they were really bad). And of course towels, sheets, quilts and othere stuff. There always seems to be more to do. In a year we will have to put in a new sea wall at great expense. But if you want to live on the water, you got to keep it all up. Best wishes for the coming New Year Elia
