This house was by far one of the most pleasant places I have stayed in. The rooms were clean, charming, and meticulously maintained. I loved the unique design of spaces and the many many details that gave the house its charismatic personality. The specialty air filters, water filters and other wellness features were a bonus. Jeanne and John were such gracious, friendly hosts who went out of their way to let me know what the area had to offer such as good local hikes and a wonderful open-air political puppet theater (Bread and Puppets). As I was travelling alone, I felt that they made a real effort to make me feel at home. I look forward to returning to this place, next time with my family!

My wife and I and our twin 8-year-old boys stayed at Millrace House in late June for 4 nights. The renovated house is spacious, clean and well appointed--there is lots of space to hangout. It's situated on a cul-de-sac in a very small, charming town, with a variety of sights within walking distance or an easy drive away. There were toys and games for kids, along with a variety of books and guides to the local area, as well as DVDs and VHS tapes. The large yard was great for the kids. As noted in another review, the steps up to the second floor, where the two bedrooms and one of the bathrooms are located, are steep, so the house may not be suitable for very small children, unless a portable gate is installed. There is small bed and a full bathroom on the ground floor A diner is a quick walk away, and a great place for brunch or lunch. What set the house apart was the hospitality and warmth of the owners, who live across the street. They were quick to suggest activities and to arrange tours for the kids and us, and to let the kids play along the creek that runs by both houses, but is more easily accessed from their house. All in all, we had a very relaxing stay, and plan on returning as soon as we can.

We were one couple out of a total of 5 people who stayed 3 nights over presidents weekend. The house is very nice. Lots of space, comfortable beds, and a well stocked kitchen. The location is also very nice, set on a nice river with lots of areas to explore. The owners live near by and are very nice and helpfull. We were in a pinch one night for dessert and they hooked us up with some ice cream and brownies... Jay Peak is about 20 minutes from the home (a very easy drive) as well as a few other ski areas. We highly suggest staying here if heading up for a weekend of skiing or exploring. It can not be beat and we will be back.

Millrace property is one of the finest homes we have ever rented. The inside of this home is charming and very spacious. Beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable beds, fun watching the birds at the feeders. This is also a great location to stay for Jay Peak, Lake Memephramagog, fine restaurants, grocery store, cinema, pharmacy in Newport. I highly recommend this home to any skiers, snowmobilers, fisherman, or any one that just wants to get away for a quiet peaceful Vermont stay.

What a great way to enjoy a beautiful corner of the globe... You get so much more than a house with this rental. Our hosts warmly welcomed us to share the access to the river available through their garden--two magnificent herons flew up from their favorite spot at the top of the falls we approached the first time. They were equally generous with the produce of the garden as well! Their property is definitely the highlight of Coventry "town" but the charms of "greater Coventry" are countless--Coventry Falls just up the road was a gorgeous and secluded place to enjoy a swim, very safe for our two girls (4 and 8) in their life jackets. The proprietors of Coventry Falls Alpaca Farm could not have been more gracious in sharing their love for and knowledge of the camelid family--scores of cavorting alpacas (we got to see one being born!), Buttons the guard-llama, and To-Jo the immensely personable camel. We wished we had brought running shoes for the scenic 2-mile loop back down into town, over a picture-postcard wooden bridge. Everyone enjoyed our outing on a placid stretch of the Clyde River in tandem kayaks rented from an outfitter in West Charleston (www.clyderiverrecreation.com for online reservations). The house itself was very comfortable--modern design touches complement the historical underpinnings, and the kitchen is well-appointed. A couple of low interior windows in one bedroom open into living room downstairs--made us glad our kids are not younger, but a well-placed suitcase could probably block off that hazard! Parents of very young children should also be aware that the stairs are rather steep in good 18/19th century tradition, and the beds are high. GREAT selection of books to read while you're there, including some nice titles for kids. We'll be back!

Our family had such a great Memorial weekend escape. We loved the house and exploring the grounds and River. Thank-you Jeanne for taking us to the Coventry Alpaca Farm, the kids had a blast. A very peaceful place, I know we'll be back and would love to be there during foliage season.

Fabulous getaway in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. We spent Christmas there & it was relaxing, yet fun. The owners were welcoming & kind hosts. They made our Christmas very special by adding nice touches such as a fresh Christmas tree. The house was very cozy & filled with lots of character. The house is situated alongside a riverbend & there are lots of trails nearby to explore. We went snowshoeing & cross-country skiing. Brillant!

There is certainly something very special about this house. Maybe the fantastic and innovative way light plays through the skylights and interior windows. Or the openness of the downstairs rooms. Or the babbling brook. Or that fantastic Vulcan stove. Or the clever and careful historical touches. Or just the generous and artistic spirit of the owners. It was a most delightful week.
