Location: Silver Bay, Minnesota, USA (Duluth; 1 Hour South; Lutsen Ski Resort; 30 Minutes North) View Map

Accommodations:  Natural Wood a-Frame, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

The unique feature of this property is the spectacular panoramic high bluff view of Lake Superior. The view is unobstructed and spans the town of Silver Bay to the south and Palisade Head to the north. The A-frame structure features vaulted 2-story window views facing east to Lake Superior. Relax or dine on a second-story deck that provides expansive views along the north shore, Lake Superior, and the sun setting through the woods. The A-frame is completely secluded on 6 wooded acres.

Another unique feature is the location. Less than a mile away, the town of Sliver Bay provides easy access for groceries, wine and spirits, movie rentals, eateries, and gas. Beaver Bay is 5 minutes south with more restaurants and tourist shops. With several state parks nearby, guests will find numerous hiking and biking trails, waterfalls, and scenic views. A snowmobile/ATV trail system is within walking distance of the property.

The A-frame was completed in 2009 and is a perfect blend of new amenities and an "up north" interior decor complete with log railings, furniture, and tongue & groove throughout. The great room has a vaulted ceiling and panoramic unobstructed views of Lake Superior. Enjoy an even more expansive view from an outdoor seating area on the edge of the bluff.

Why the Owner Chose Silver Bay

We chose this property for the unique expansive view of Lake Superior. An added plus is the location and proximity to many state parks, Lutsen Ski Resort, restaurants and stores.

The Unique Benefits at this Natural Wood a-Frame

The view of Lake Superior changes constantly so we enjoy the ever-changing scenery. We continue to find new scenic locations that are accessible on short or long hikes, or on recreational vehicle trails. The views are spectacular both inside and outside so the weather does not inhibit full enjoyment of the beauty of the north shore.

Owner's Map of Silver Bay

We are full-time working professionals who love to get away on the north shore. We have many fond memories from our own childhood of spending vacation time up north, and then created new ones with our 2 children. It is a setting that appeals to those who want to do nothing but relax & enjoy the beauty of the north shore, to those that prefer to be active outdoors.

    • Over the years we have stayed at quite a few vacation rentals by owners. Rarely do I feel compelled to leave guestbook comments—but this time around, my family and I just HAD TO let the owners and prospective guests know what a wonderful time we had and how very special this property is. I certainly understand why the owners chose to call their beautiful property a sanctuary. Truly a refuge, this is a place where the sacredness and awe of nature is everywhere, inside and out. We took a number of walks and bike rides right off the property—nice not to have to get in the car to take in the beauty of the North Shore. New throughout, and beautifully designed and built, we appreciated the many fantastic features of the house such as the open, airy, lofted great-room with HUGE windows overlooking Lake Superior the drama of Palisade Head. We loved dining on the deck/porch with its’ gas grill, bracing north woods air, and starry night sky. The fireplace was an excellent way to top off the evening with a glass of cabernet. Comfortable beds (we loved the king beds), pretty bathrooms(2!), and nicely appointed kitchen—were icing on the cake! The best of everything the North Shore has to offer is close and convenient. We (me, my husband, and 2 boys) packed a lot into 3 days. We enjoyed hiking on the Bean and Bear Lake trails (we actually caught fish!), mountain (great trails) and road biking along Lake Superior “Scenic 61”, and swimming at breathtaking Elgin Falls. Tettegouche State Park was just minutes by car where we had a lovely picnic lunch by the Baptism River. The charming little towns along the shore populated with good restaurants, art galleries, spas, gift shops and flea markets are a nice diversion. An added bonus is that the owners are very nice people who clearly take pride in their property—and are truly a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend that visitors book a minimum 3-4 day-stay. We’ll know next time to come for at least a week! We left with so many more things we wanted to do such as: exploring the town of Grand Marais; taking an Ojibwe-guided tour to the sacred Witch Tree; canoeing Sawbill/BWCA; kayaking Lake Superior, and brunching at the famous *Naniboujou Lodge & Restaurant—to name just a few. It was very hard to end our vacation at this wonderful retreat. Fortunately, we’ll definitely be coming back this winter for the great skiing and snowmobiling — and for many years to come! Kathryn Bergmann & family * Naniboujou Lodge was first conceived in the 1920's as an ultra exclusive private club. Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey and Ring Lardner were among its charter members…. it is now on the National Register of Historic Places (it) boasts Minnesota's largest native rock fireplace, a 200 ton work of art which stands in the 30 x 80 foot GreatHall.. • This home is spectacular and the location is ideal. You are located 5-15 minutes from the most beautiful state parks within MN. Each morning and afternoon we hiked different trails in the parks and viewed different rivers, cliffs, bluffs and peaks. In between these outings we would head back to the property for a quick meal, nap and downtime before heading out again. Very relaxing in the evening with excellent views of Lake Superior and Palisade Point. The most attractive aspects of this property are it's location to so many beautiful parks & trails and the condition of the home is excellent. You are welcome to call with suggestions on the parks, trails, waterfalls, etc in the area. Everyone had a great time and we will hopefully use this property again soon.
