Location: Private Homes, Telluride, Telluride Area, Southwest, Colorado, USA (One Block Uphill from Main Street (Colorado Ave) on Fir) View Map
Accommodations: 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-7)
Keywords: Second Floor Duplex
Since I bought my house in 1989, the entire building has been remodeled and added to. I opened the restaurant on the first floor as The House a tavern in 1991 and sold it to my friend Clay in 2000, who now operates it as The Cornerhouse Grille. Convenient if you are hungry and don't feel like cooking, or are looking for someone to watch the big game with.
Upstairs is my two bedroom, two bath, 1400 sq ft home, which, hopefully, you will be renting. The bedrooms are generous in size and comfort. Each have satellite TV and DVD/VCR. If you need it, there is a double bed loft in the living room which I put in to use as a day bed for reading (and a place to gaze at the stars at night). There is also plenty of couch and floor space for the kids if you are doubling up with another family. The master bath has a tub/shower. A shower in the guest bath.
The kitchen is a great place to cook -- enough room for everyone to help or just sit and chat with those who are cooking. It is fully outfitted, probably like your kitchen at home. Things are expensive in this remote mountain town, so I leave stuff so you don't have to buy every little thing (ex. mayo, mustard, spices, olive oil, etc.).
The living room/dining room is spacious and comfortable, and has everything you need to entertain yourselves or others. Music (radio, CD, minidisc, cassette, iPod plug), books, TV, DVD, VHS, games, cards, puzzles, etc.
The deck is small, but a comfortable place to read or cocktail in the summer, and a convenient spot to grill summer and winter.
You will be located within walking distance of EVERYTHING. Within a block you have the movie theater, Sheridan Opera House, three restaurants, two coffee shops, shopping and a bus stop. Within a five minute walk you hit ... everything else -- the free gondola to Mountain Village (3 blocks), town park, ski lifts (three blocks to Lift 8 and the G, or one block to the bus), museum (two blocks), all the rest of the in-town restaurants and shopping, etc. Park your car and forget it, or better yet, leave it at home.
One caveat -- my place is located above a restaurant in a house built in the 1800's, so you can hear what is happening downstairs. UPDATE 5/25/10: Since the restaurant has recently changed hands and the new owner is going to try to extend evening hours, I am in the midst of investing a couple thousand dollars in sound dampening insulation, just in case. UPDATE 9/21/10: THIS LISTING IS UNAVAILABLE UNTIL I SOLVE THE NOISE PROBLEM.
I'm happy to give whatever assistance I can to help you enjoy your trip. I've lived here for over 20 years, so have a more than passing acquaintance with most facets of town. If I'm here, we can even get together for a drink. I hope you choose to take advantage of my wonderful home. I look forward to talking to you.

Map & Owner's Profile
A Real Home at a Great Price in a Convenient Location.
Year Purchased: 1989
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
Magnificent scenery, friendly people, wonderful dining and outdoor opportunities make Telluride a truly unique place.
The Unique Benefits at this
You are renting my home -- when you come, I leave -- so you feel like you are visiting a friend instead of staying in a hotel or condo. The location is second to none, smack dab in the center of town. If you don't need it to get here, don't bother with a car!
Owner's Map of Private Homes
I moved to Telluride in 1987 for the ski season and it has been my home ever since. Like most people here, in that time I've worn many different hats -- bartender, ski tech, restaurant owner, newspaper reporter, construction worker, town council member, lift operator, researcher, and more -- and am currently trying to write screenplays while working the occasional local production gig (festivals, live-action commercials, photo shoots). Your staying here helps me afford the time to write, a great luxury in an expensive place. Thanks!
