Nellie’s Nest is named after the previous owner & long time Bokeelia creative personality, Miss Nellie. Now owned by her nephew, this home is cozy, well loved and beautifully remodeled. Reminders of Miss Nellie exist in her original art work, lush gardens, and historic memorabilia. The home is on a quiet, dead end street with water on both sides of the road & is 2 streets away from the public boat ramp. It is located on the northern tip of Pine Island, a mere 5 minutes to open water. Pine Island has a 15 mile long public bike path which runs the full length of the island but the real focus of this quaint fishing village is gorgeous Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico, and fantastic fishing for all ages. Cayo Costa State Park can be reached by private boat or ferry. Boca Grande Pass is the location of annual tarpon tournaments every June and is a brief 20 minute run by boat. You have to drive through Matlacha to get to Bokeelia so you already appreciated all the art galleries and restaurants (including Great Licks with home made ice cream!). Sit by the dock and watch the mullet jump in the canal while the egrets, herons, and osprey go fishing!

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2007
Robert grew up in Bokeelia and after years away from "home" was able to return to southwest Florida for work and for play. He loves being back on the water & goes fishing on the boat every chance he gets!
Why the Owner Chose Bokeelia
This home was completely remodeled & updated after Hurricane Charley blew through in 2004. A lot of attention to detail was put into the renovation and it has been on the rental market since 2008. We now have guests returning for the 4th year in a row. Our guests rave about the location and how well appointed the house is - down to the wine bottle opener! Everything is on one level so there are no stairs to climb.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Outstanding salt water fishing - flats, inshore, & off shore; kayaking, sailing, boating, scuba diving. Tennis. Bike riding. Nature walks. Boat tours. Randell Research Center for Calusa Indian history & archeology. Bird watching. Shelling & swimming on barrier islands. Nature preserves. Sunset cruises on the Gulf. Mangoes, Key limes & other tropical fruit grown on the island. Museum of the Islands. Golf Course 2 miles away with 20+ other courses in the area. Many restaurants accessible by boat or car. The Great Calusa Blueway paddling trail in minutes. Marina nearby for boat rentals. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel. Edison Winter Estates in Fort Myers. Cheeseburger in Paradise?? No further than Cabbage Key!

Great location - House was great & amenities were outstanding! I loved how you decorated it too!! You've left out nothing - even the night lights which I forgot to bring!! Honestly, we loved everything!! We've rented places in the Keys, but your place won our vote hands down!!

"We liked all the birds - osprey, ibis, egrets, blue heron, funny pelicans, anahinga. The house had everything we needed, so relaxing. The kayak was a big plus. Liked the quiet location, beautiful decor, wonderful walking area. We enjoyed reading about Nellie's life and the history of the "fisher folk". This was such a relaxing place & week that I wish we had planned for more time."

"The way you restored the house shows great thought and TLC on every detail and your decorating is just right too. It is a perfect size for a few people. The back deck and location are great and the floor plan for the house is perfect. The kitchen is also very functional. Your information book, and helpful hints pages are also great touches. Having worked with my Dad on some big home improvements I know it is hard work but very satisfying when it is all done just right. I think you did it just right....the utility room shower is in a great spot also and the utility room is very useful for rods and stuff." Suggestions: lounge chairs for laying in the sun, outdoor shower

We have a super time and would like to return soon, I will check your calendar and see if we could come again. Your home is perfect, could not ask for one thing different. Thanks for a delightful Christmas visit. My husband was able to catch about a dozen of the snapper fish and we had at least 20 birds visiting hoping to grab one of the fish. Great place.
