Welcome to our serene lakeside cottage, nestled in the calm waters of the cove on Lake Owassa, NJ. Lake Owassa, a natural spring fed lake located in northwest NJ, is recognized as one of NJ's cleanest lakes. Just 90 minutes outside of New York City, this rental property is a great vacation spot! Come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world, and experience the countryside and nature of scenic Sussex County, NJ.
Our cottage is a lake front property with a 100' shoreline. Beautiful green lawns lead from the large deck right up to the water's edge. You can walk right into the lake, making it perfect for young children. The cove waters are wake free. Boaters must observe trolling speed at all times. This provides for a safer and more relaxing swimming experience. Lake Owassa is annually stocked with many types of indigenous and hybrid fish.
The lake is a great place to cast your favorite lure! A paddle boat is also provided, which allows you to venture out on to the lake and further enjoy the beautiful vistas. The fully enclosed porch provides comfortable seating to gaze upon the Appalachian Trail, or take your meals while looking upon the water. If you prefer to dine outside, you can. A gas grill is provided on the spacious deck, great for barbecues!
There are four bedrooms. Two bedrooms sleep two in bunk beds. One bedroom sleeps one in a twin bed. There is also a master bedroom with a bay window overlooking the lake front. The master bedroom sleeps two in a full bed. A roll-away cot is also provided.
A welcome binder laden with shopping brochures and local activities from around the area will help you plan out your days and nights. The cottage is just fifteen minutes away from Olde Lafayette Village, a popular outlet mall. There are also many antique stores to browse just minutes from your door. Five miles down the highway is Skylands Stadium. This ballpark gives you the chance to catch a minor league baseball game, featuring the Sussex Skyhawks!
We are also only ten minutes from Sunrise Mountain on the Appalachian Trail, found in and Stokes State Forest. It is a perfect destination for hiking, sightseeing, and biking. There are many great restaurants in the area which vary from fine Italian cuisine, sizzling steaks or a fun Mexican dining experience, Mariachi band and all!
The cottage is available from Memorial Day through Halloween, on a weekly or monthly basis. Nightly rentals (four night minimum) are available Labor Day through Halloween. Summers filled with warmth and lively atmosphere are a great time spent on the lake. Whether a family, a couple, or just by yourself, this cottage is the right choice for fun and relaxation. Autumn is a breathtaking time for "peepers" to enjoy the crisp country air and to take in the beauty of the changing leaves.
We are a children and pet friendly cottage!

Really nice fall stay

Stayed here mid-week for several days. The house is very nice, bigger than you would think from the pictures. It was chilly outside, but the house has oil heaters and wood burning furnace, so we were warm. The fall foliage is lovely, and you can look at it directly across water from houses' back yard. The lake is very quiet this time of year. We got to see an owl sleeping in the tree nearby! There is also lots of hiking trails nearby. I recommend getting NYNJTC hiking maps, Kittatinny set. Overall we loved it and have since recommended it to a few friends.

Very nice house, great lake, no dishwasher and no drinking water

We spent two weeks with my family in this vacation home in August 2011. The house itself is great, especially the porch - our family loved it, altought the bedrooms are tiny. The lake is amazing too - great water for swimming, also a boat and a paddle-boat in great condition. The owner was also so nice to give us a fishing rod and we got ourselves some fish in that lake including catfish. Unfortunately, the water in the house comes from the lake so you can't use it for drinking and cooking and we had to order drinking water ourselves (a lot of water because we srink and eat a lot :) Also, there was no dishwasher so you have to wash your own dishes and since there were 7 of us there, there were a lot of dishes. So these are the only cons to this house and it's our own problem tat we didn't read with greater attention the information about the house because the owner provided all this information beforehand,
Owner response:We start all rentals with an initial supply of at least 5 gallons of spring water dispensed through a refrigerated water cooler. Fishing on Lake Owassa, as on any NJ lake, requires any fisherman, age 16 plus, to purchase a NJ fishing license, sold locally or online. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and that your email to us said that you would stay with us again.

My 2 sons and I spent a long weekend. All was as advertised and more. Quiet and relaxing. Bought food for the grill at Dale's Market and cold beer at Bud's Tavern. Highpoint and Stoke's Forests right up the road. We'll be back!
