Everything was perfect! We really enjoyed your home and the surrounding area. We both loved all of your pottery and artwork/decorating. It is kind of funny-- we have a lot of the same books and cookbooks. We went to Merlefest on Saturday for a while and really enjoyed the music. We will plan better next year so we can enjoy more of the festival. We hope to rent your home again sometime soon.

Thanks so much, Ellen, for allowing us to rent "Parkway Farmhouse" last weekend. I think we felt at home and relaxed from the time we pulled into the driveway until we had to leave. What a beautiful place y'all have there. Brenda and I both said that we would love to rent it again from you sometime. The detailed instructions that you left on everything were most helpful. We enjoyed hiking to the falls as well as hiking on the old road above the house. Sam (the dog) had a great time. He really enjoyed running on the trails. He got plenty of exercise and slept like a champ. Even though we were only there for a couple of days, the stress from everyday life just melted away.

We arrived home last night from a slow trip back from the mountains - pooped but so happy. The house couldn't have been any better - we really did have the best time there - what a lovely place! It was the perfect fall weekend - lots of walks, cocoa, fireplace time, and a getaway from the rigamarole of daily life. All of your beautiful pieces made it safely through the weekend. It's clear you've had a fun time collecting all sorts of lovely things - they were all very much admired. ...at some point over the weekend, my husband and I admitted that we should be embarrassed because we just wanted everything! Thank you for letting us enjoy your lovely home!

We just returned from a long weekend stay at the Parkway Farmhouse. I felt at home immediately. Beautifully decorated yet so cozy and comfortable. Everything pictured is exactly as it appears in person. Ellen and Bill are wonderful to work with! Plenty of places to walk and discover without getting in your car right there near the farmhouse. Close to West Jefferson for the Farmer's Market and any grocery items you might need. Freeborne's in Laurel Springs, right off the Parkway about 6 mi., had the best hamburgers EVER! Don't let the bikers parked out front deter you from checking them out. Ellen gave many recommendations of things to do and see and places to eat. I was at total peace just sitting out on the front porch drinking coffee. I would highly recommend the Parkway Farmhouse!

It was a beautiful week and we had a great time! There are unlimited outdoor activities and attractions. You definitely need to hit some of the day hike trails just off the parkway. I have used HomeAway.com to rent the family’s vacation home for the past three years and always impressed with the nice houses we get! I can honestly say that the Jefferson Farmhouse is at the top of the list! A beautiful house, beautiful location, and well equipped with all the little things you need to make it a hassle free, great getaway….Very clean, well maintained, and the owner (Ellen) is simply wonderful! For the money, you can’t do any better. I definitely recommend this vacation rental to anyone that wants to get away for any reason. Definitely trust all the reviews submitted for the Blue Ridge Parkway Farmhouse to be accurate.

We loved everything about this house. It was decorated beautifully. We loved the multi-colored dishes. Would love to know where you bought them. My daughter and grandson walked to the waterfall. I wanted to but didn't quite make it. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and taking pictures of butterflies on the flowers. We saw deer three different times. The morning we left , there were three deer in the road. They didn't want to let us pass, so we had plenty of time to take their pictures. It was funny! My family and I would love to go back again for a week. I have already recommended this place to some of my friends.

For over twenty-five years, our family has vacationed in the mountains of North Carolina. We have never stayed at the same rental twice. Variety is the spice of life as they say. However, that all may change after staying at the Parkway Farmhouse. If you do indeed want peace and you do want to be surrounded by beauty, I urge you to choose this house. One of the first rituals I have is making a survey of the kitchen. This is a knock your socks off kitchen because it is so well stocked! In fact, I think I am going to purchase some melamine dishes again. Hope I spelled that correctly. The house is impeccably decorated. If you are an avid reader, you have a fabulous reading collection available and look in the ottoman for those games if you are a game lover. Take a walk down to the falls, but remember the uphill climb if you are a little older. Of course, your wonderful neighbors will offer you water and welcome you to sit down for conversation. West Jefferson has lots to offer especially the Avery County Cheese Store. Try the cheese curds.Yum! Doughton State Park is not very far and my son said it was just wonderful. We simply loved this area because it certainly was not enveloped by the tourist world which happens in so many other areas of the NC mountains. Finally, the owners are beyond gracious and most helpful. They are quick to respond to any of your questions. We simply loved it and so did our dog Minnie!

Jay and I are back today from a wonderful, relaxing trip to your fantastic cabin ! You must be in to interior design...your home is so lovingly decorated and all the fine touches you have added make it so very special ! The architecture of the home is so unique. What color did you use on the master bathroom walls ? like a creamy butterscotch...I love it ! We enjoyed the beautiful yard, birding, walking the loop, making a fire and star-gazing and last evening a wonderful dinner at the River House. We saw lots of good birds, rabbits and turkeys and a pileated, a flicker, tons of other birds and hooded and yellow warblers and Carolina wrens and red eyed vireos. The phoebes have fledged but we heard them singing in the mornings. Love all the work you have done on your hillside outside the back of the house. We spent an entire afternoon in West Jefferson roaming through all the lovely shops and even stopped at Shatley Springs. Stopped at the cheese factory and bought some yummy cheeses. We wanted to canoe the New River but will save that for next time. I am an avid reader and told Jay we must rent for a month, so I can indulge in some of your books. We found everything we needed at the cabin and more ! Beulah stopped by to say hello too ! We are already discussing a fall trip and we actually rather enjoyed ourselves without our little girls (dogs). Although they would have loved all the sights and smells, it gave us a freedom to roam at will. We can't thank you enough Ellen for all your help and allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home. We appreciated the Wifi info as we brought our XM radio, which was wonderful ! Take care and enjoy your summer time in the mountains too !

Ellen, Thank you so much for letting us stay in your gorgeous mountain home. My family and I had such a great time. The house is beautiful inside and out. We loved the decorations and "style" of the house in general. The location was so convenient. We hiked down to the waterfall just down the road multiple times and found new places to explore every time. Within an hour's driving distance, we found Price Park, EB Jeffress Park, Moses Cone Park, Mt. Jefferson Park - all great hikes for us and the kids. Sitting around the warm fireplace sipping a warm drink on a cold rainy day was a highlight of the trip. Roasting marshmallows and making S'mores by the fire pit was fun. The kitchen was so well stocked with spices, pots and pans, tools, etc. We cooked some great meals at the house and also discovered some good local flavor. The neighbors were so friendly - Joel who lives down the street was kind enough to give me about 2 hours of his time on Saturday diagnosing and fixing a problem with the battery on our car. I would have been stranded if not for him helping out! Altogether, this was a magical vacation for us and the beautiful house was a large part of that! I can't wait to come back again in the summer and canoe, go gem mining, hiking, and on and on. Thanks again - we loved it!

We did have a lovely time and would love to rent your home again (in the near future if this heat keeps up!). We did go to the Virginia Creeper and it was both very beautiful and very enjoyable! My husband (after he got back to normal after turning green on the hairpin ride up) and kids loved it and said they want to do it again. Thank you so much for recommending it!!! The weather was not great on Sunday when we left so we decided not to tube on the New River which disappointed the kids, but on the way out we were honored with a mother deer and her two young ones that still had their spots. On the way out we stopped at the Thistle Winery which ended up being a lot of fun for my husband and I as well as the kids since they have a creek out front that they invited the kids to enjoy in their bare feet...allowing us to relax. The two ladies that were facilitating the tastings that day were so personable and pleasant. It definitely gave me the break I need from trying to balance work and family. You are fortunate to have such a lovely getaway.

A lovely well equipped house and very secluded and private, the few neighbors we saw were very eager to wave hello. VERY quiet and peaceful. Notes: Litttles Gym in Jefferson was, very accomodating. Dont miss the Fresco Church just up the road in Glendale Springs and the Mountain Aire restaurant seems to be the closest place to eat in the off season. GPS is a bit sketchy up in the mountains so arrive in day light!

What a wonderful home away from home. Just loved the house, beautifully decorated, fireplace to relax in front of with a nice glass of wine. My "HUSBAND" just could not stop walking around the house taking in the beauty of it all. Perfect location, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway.......if you stay here, you have just got to take the ride from Jefferson to Mt. Airy on the parkway, breathe taking views.

This house was so much more than the pictures and description given. It is very comfortable, yet wonderfully decorated. The owners have great taste. We were told they had a few CDs and some books. To our surprise they had a wide collection of many different types of music (no need to take any CDS) and a vast collection of books, from Studs Terkle to Kaye Gibson. I loved the kitchen because it is equipped with top of the line cooking materials, making me feel very much at home. The dishes are brightly colored and add so much to your dining experiences. The house is not difficult to find and is secluded enough not to be bothered with traffic or loud neighbors. We enjoyed the easy drive to W. Jefferson several times for shopping and dinner. It was the first time that I honestly did NOT want to leave when our time was up. The house is very open and easy to care for that I am not so sure we would hire the maid dervice again. I think it would be very easy to clean before leaving. One mistake we did make was not talking the trash to the dump on Saturday and bring it home with us. Needless to say, our trip home was a very fragrant one! The owner, Ellen, goes out of her way to make you stay as easy as she can. Anytime that you have a question she is very quick to reply and her directions are perfect. There is a small part of me that did not want to share what a great place this is for fear of it not being available for me when I want to rent it again. Trust me, if you decide to rent it, you will be glad that I was not selfish and shared this review.

Ellen, Everything was great. We had a marvelous time. If you could see the pictures of me sitting on the porch drinking Pomegranate Martinis.... you would know just how happy I was at your home. :-) It was the most relaxed I have been in a l-o-n-g time! I know it probably isn't easy to share your beautiful home, but I am so glad you do. You have it decorated beautifully and I loved the dishes! It was exactly the break we needed. We had lots of porch time. It was absolutely wonderful! Thanks again, Faith

Ellen, Just wanted you to know that we left the house today and thoroughly enjoyed it. We watched fireworks at Tweetsie Railroad, walked to the waterfall, ate lunch at Doughton Park, and went tubing down the New River. The house worked great for us, including the fire pit. We look forward to recommending the house to our friends and making use of it again ourselves. With thanks, Andy

Ellen, We had a wonderful weekend in your farmhouse! Thank you for sharing your little gem in the woods with us! We enjoyed every inch of the property. We walked to the waterfall, climbed the rope ladder, rocked on the rocking chairs, and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We biked the Creeper Trail, ate at Brick Stone Pizza and Sweet Aromas, and drove around on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Your recommendations and tips were very helpful. It was our first time to the area so your guidance and suggestions were invaluable. The weather was perfect! Can't think of anything that could have made it more enjoyable except for a longer weekend! Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your home! We would love to come back again! Fondly, Christine

Hi, Ellen! Just wanted you to know that we had a fabulous weekend at the Parkway Farmhouse. The house was beautiful and felt very luxurious. Cruel Mountain was cool, quiet, and full of color. Thank you for all of your recommendations. We hiked around the house, ate at Brickstone and Blue Ridge Cafe, visited the frescoes, stopped at the Ashe County Cheese Company, and enjoyed german chocolate cake and wine at Sweet Aromas. Our favorite activity, though, was just sitting out on the front porch in the rockers with a good book! :) (You have so many great books there!) Thanks so much for letting us stay at your beautiful home and making it such a great getaway! Casey and Wen

Hi Ellen! We had a WONDERFUL time at your house. Thank you very much for renting it to us. Everything was so nicely done. I loved all of your colors, art work, moldings, etc!! The kitchen was great! It all "functioned" very well and was as clean as can be! Thank you very much! The flowers on the table were such a thoughtful touch. We do appreciate it. We would like to rent again, hopefully next summer. We had a great time on the trails. We walked UP the waterfalls back to the street. That was fun and an adventure! We also enjoyed the trail behind the house. We would like to do more exploring on the mountain. Everything was so comfortable and attractive. Thank you, Ellen. You have beautiful taste! It all looks great! The kitchen functions well! I missed it when I came home to my dated one! Thank you, thank you for sharing your beautiful home! Thanks again for all you did to make our vacation one of our best! Take care. Jane
