Palm Springs Compound! 5b/4b.Best Quality! Mid-Century/ Modern
- Minimum stay:3 nights

This beautifully appointed home offers four bedrooms (fifth bedroom is converted to TV room)/four baths and was professionally restored and expanded in 2006. Located on a quiet street in the historic Sunmor neighborhood, the main house is an Alexander mid-century home, built in 1958 with breath taking views of the San Jacinto Mountains and surrounding valley. The original Alexander of just under 1300 square feet was expanded to just over 2,600 square feet maintaining the original post and beam, floor to ceiling glass and character of the Alexander 'Chalet' home. The expansion of the house was done with green and recycled materials. The highest considered was given to design, Alexander’s vision and building efficiency when expanding.
This home is centrally located with an easy 15-minute walk to the downtown Palm Springs where you will find numerous restaurants, shops, and entertainment. The house is also located conveniently to the Palm Springs airport which makes traveling very easy.
The interior of the home was inspired over many years of travel and the love of Palm Springs architecture and living. The designer was influenced by Southeast Asia and carried a Zen-like quality thought out the home including exterior landscaping in which 44,000 pounds of rock were brought in from Bali, Indonesia.
Guests will enjoy living outside at this Palm Springs compound as much as inside. Lush fichus shrubbery provided complete privacy while in the back yard. Palms surround the rear yard and spa giving it that “resort” feel. On the north side are a pool, an outdoor kitchen and living room. The center of the yard is park-like yard with a large lawn and a picturesque “Hockney” looking pool and spa. The interior areas and grounds come alive at night with dramatic lighting on palms, a 2,500 pound Buddha hand carved from Java stone. A star-filled sky with not a street light in sight make for the perfect evening at this classic compound in Palm Springs.

Truly one of the best properties we have ever visited in Palm Springs! Everything we needed in this home away from home was at out fingertips. Plenty of room for all to enjoy their own space! The pics are great, but the second you walk in is when you truly appreciate the serenity and peace that Matt has created in this house. This house is a MUST stay if you plan on visiting Palm Springs and we can't thank you enough Matt for being so accommodating and welcoming us into your beautiful home. I will certainly return and recommend Livmor to others! Thank you! DayneRecommended for: Romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Dayne for taking the time to write a review. You and your friends were super great guests. I really appreciate that even though it was a birthday weekend you made sure to respect the rules of the home and were respectful of neighbors. I enjoy people coming to the home who appreciating the zen, quite quality of the home. I am sure I will see you again at the “Livmor” home…

A group of us stayed here during Modernism Week. Matt, the owner, was very hospitable and professional when he met us at the house to show us how everything worked. He also wanted to hear what improvements we might suggest when we checked out. The house, located in the Sunmor neighborhood, is even better than the photographs. Matt has improved on the original Alexander house by extending the master bedroom and building two casitas on the rear of the property. While the kitchen has been updated be aware it is small (as the original kitchens in these houses were). But it opens to the living room for easy conversation with the guests. It is well equipped and organized. The pool was a perfect temperature. The hot tub has an energy saving device and takes a few minutes to heat up but it gets toasty very quickly. It also has the best view on the property. I spent a great deal of time there reading. We had all sorts of plans for venturing out but spent most the time by the pool just hanging out with friends. The BBQ is located in a breezeway between the two casitas in what is basically an outdoor kitchen with fridge, sink and even dishwasher. Excellent for entertaining. We had a few friends over (be sure and ask permission first and don't exceed the number permitted by City of Palm Springs ordinance!) and everybody agreed we had the best house they had seen. There is a long dining table outside. Nighttime lighting and art are especially well done. We loved the quirky chicken sculpture (rescued from a failing restaurant, according to Matt.) There are also several handsome and fragile art pieces so the house so it may not be the place for wild kids! We had two small children in our group, but they were well behaved and trained to not go in the pool without an adult and they followed directions. But note there is no extra fence around the pool or jacuzzi. So, kids do have to be watched carefully. We will definitely rent here again and recommend it to anybody who wants five bedrooms in a modern house!Recommended for: Age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Kenneth for the review. You and your guests took great care of the home and you're welcome back anytime! Also, good for you for booking early as you knew the home books quickly. All my best and look forward to having you as a "livmor" guest again...

Nothing but glowing remarks for this Palm Springs property. The property owner was very polite and helpful with initial introductions, explanations and final walk-through. I was looking for a larger house to accommodate my visiting family from Australia and this house worked out wonderfully. Not only are the appointments extremely tasteful but everything worked as it was supposed to. What was particularly useful for me was the two suites separated from the main house, a perfect setup for couples (my parents) seeking privacy or families looking to put a snorer (my brother) away from the main house!! The location was fine for us, there is a fresh and easy half a mile away which we found useful as we definitely took advantage of the outdoor cooking area. A treat of a retreat!!Owner response: Thanks for the review! It was a pleasure having you and your family at the “Livmor” home. Thanks for returning the home in the same condition you found it. Come back anytime!

I would recommend this to anyone seeking a teriffic house to rent for a week long, or weekend getaway. What a great place! Gorgeous. Clean. The cabanas are unbelievable. Teriffic place for a group or solo vacation. Recently had a dinner party weekend there with 3 other couples (part of a rotating dinner group) and it was so much fun to just hang out, use the pool, create our own wine-tasking dinner, hop in the jacuzzi and just chill whenever we felt like it. The place is laid out so you can socialize with your friends or, just read a book, or whatever you want, depending on your mood. This is a great place for one couple or a small group of friends to stay. Architecture is fabulous. Landscaping is perfect. Pool and jacuzzi are sparkling. Outdoor sound system that plugs right into your ipod. Wonderful outdoor eating/entertaining area. Helpful, nice, owners. Can't beat it. Photos are totally accurate but not even a photo can capture the peacefulness and "resort" feel to this place. You never really want to leave the house. Can't wait to stay there again!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family has stayed at this home multiple times and will continue to come back again and again. The Sunmor neighborhood is a quite, well kept, mid-century community near downtown. Close to the airport yet very quite! I can’t say enough about the home and it amenities. This is a wonderful, clean, modern, newly renovated home with lots of space both inside and out. I love the huge pool and extra deep spa with panoramic views of the hills. The owner is great, friendly and always accessible if needed. This house is a must for your Palm Springs vacation!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Thank you again for opening up your home to our friends and creating this unique possibility for our Cellar Crawl weekend. Although you refer to the property as the Palm Springs Compound I found it to be more like a light, bright, open yet private retreat. Masterfully landscaped. Of course a compound is a cluster of buildings having a “shared purpose” and this could not be more true to our experience. Our party of nine, eight couples and one single all arrived at different times on Friday and comfortably settled into very clean, spacious and welcoming accommodations without disturbing one another or interrupting the evening activities. All the rooms offer individual privacy and quiet from the other guests while allowing for group interaction as you choose. The early arrivers were able to go to sleep undisturbed while the late arrivals carried the torch into the night. The kitchen is open and functional providing a social dynamic for those preparing food while entertaining. Our hostesses created a five-course meal, wine pairing and desserts for 9 people very comfortably. A formal table set in the outdoor dining area with beautiful lighting and sound design around the pool and spa grounds provided a nighttime resort atmosphere. It was so wonderful to just walk into the backyard and relax. Your home is like a world unto itself, private and comfortable. Attention to every detail of space is evident and so appreciated. The Owner's Manual answers every guest question imaginable and more with such a personal, local flare. I loved being able to swim and hot tub at whim throughout the weekend. Everyone was in the pool by Saturday night. While I swam, others took naps, read or explored on their computers. Some of us golfed and others went to the casinos. The bottom line is an unforgettable experience of social interaction, relaxation and exercise. My weekend felt like a weeklong getaway. Every time I stay at this property, I do not want to leave. Instead, I stay an extra day and look at real estate. I want to feel this way everyday in my own Palm Springs Compound. We welcome staying again soon. We hope you enjoy the champagne. Thank you so much for dreaming and creating such a wonderful space and sharing it with others.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

It's hard to imagine a more ideal property for a family reunion or a getaway for a group of friends. We just got back from a long week-end gathering of friends (4 couples) and we had one of the best times imaginable. Architecture fans will love this Alexander mid-century modern. Everyone will be impressed by the beautiful design elements that abound throughout, inside and out. The property is immaculate, not a detail left unattended to (from great linens to the art, etc.) and it's the perfect place for outdoor fun. Plus, the backyard is completely private. We were in the pool and spa until after midnight! One night we BBQ'd outside and the next we prepared a gourmet 6-course meal using the inside, well-equipped kitchen. This stunning home makes you feel like you're in a fancy resort. It's also centrally located, close to downtown Palm Springs and the Spa casino. I can hardly wait to return!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I have been designing and building residential homes for 20 years. It is a passion for me. I love the element of surprise and understatement in a home. I make sure every property I have done contains those two elements along with loads of emotion. Everyone should feel something after leaving a great property.
Why the Owner Chose Sunmor:
I love the location and the traditional Alexander mid-century neighborhood. Sunmor neighborhood is quiet and well preserved. Its history relating to Palm Springs is quite amazing.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
When staying at the Livmor house you will find a peaceful tranquility. Relaxation is the key at this home. Many of the art objects on the property come from the far east. Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand are but some of the countries art and working components of the home originate from. In fact, over 44,000 pounds of rock were brought in from Bali for this unique compound!
