Fabulous

Guest: Cara (American, living in London)
Date of Stay: 06/29/11 Review Submitted: 07/26/11

We stayed there with our two boys 10 & 11 and my in laws (70 & 72) and had plenty of space, beautiful views and lots to do. It is a charming old Portuguese home which is very clean and well kept. The owner, Katia, was flexible with our length of stay and very prompt in returning emails. The view and grounds are outstanding! My mother-in-law gets motion sickness and is used to a modern American lifestyle, this was not the ideal trip for her, but the rest of us had a wonderful stay! I would highly recommend it!

Absolutely amazing! Best vacation ever!

What an amazing villa! Huge, very comfortable, secluded and private (surrounded by a national park), idyllic setting and a perfect base of operation to explore the many nearby sights, Lisbon and the rest of Portugal. It is close enough to the numerous marvels of Sintra to be able to visit there many times. And the most spectacular beach we've ever seen, Ursa Beach, is just a short stroll away (and this comes from a well-traveled Californian). Would recommend walking to and exploring along the flower-clad seaside cliff tops and the Cabo da Roca lighthouse (on the western-most point in all of Europe), which the villa has a commanding view of. The listing description is accurate and the photographs only begin to capture how remarkably beautiful it is. We found the property very clean and well-maintained. The care taker and maid, who live in a separate house on the grounds, are readily available, were very helpful and friendly, and kept the villa immaculate. The owner was helpful with all of our questions. Our teenage daughter had us connected to the internet Wi-Fi within moments of our arrival - And reception was clear and strong from anywhere on the grounds. My family stayed for two of the most wonderful weeks of our lives and we hope to return again as often as possible. I would highly recommend this to both family and friends, and hope to return there with them to share in the delight of this remarkable place. We really loved it!

Incredible location, Beautiful house

Guest: Kevin (New Jersey, United States of America)
Date of Stay: 09/06/08 Review Submitted: 05/11/11

This is one of the most memorable places I've ever been to on holiday. I spent every evening sitting on the patio watching the sun set behind the Cabo da Roca light house. During the day, i went hiking along the cliff-tops or down to the beach. I even found some bolted rock climbing routes. Had i known I'd have brought my climbing gear. Other days, i took the bus to Sintra or Cascias,, which are just a short way away, when i wanted to see the touristy stuff. This house is in the middle of a UNESCO world heritage site! This type of location is very very rare. On top of that, the house itself was beautiful, with marble everywhere! We had no problems with the maid or the grounds. Azoia, the town just up the hill, is a bit quiet, and only has a handful of restaurants, which would be my only complaint, though the restaurants it does have are fantastic! Overall, this is an incredible place to stay and will leave you with lasting memories and an album full of pictures.

Gorgeous villa with spectacular views

Guest: Sergei (Moscow)
Date of Stay: 04/09/11 Review Submitted: 05/04/11

We rented the villa for one week in April and fell in love with the house itself and the area. As the westernmost part of Europe, Cabo da Roca is a destination for many tourists visiting Portugal. There is also a lot to see in the area around Sintra – a 9th century Moorish castle, the 14th century Palacio Nacional, a 15th century monastery tucked in the mountains, the palaces of Montserrat and Pena, etc. There are also nice sandy beaches in the area, one of which is walking distance from the house. We found more than enough to do in the area for the whole week. The house itself is situated on very private grounds with unobstructed and breathtaking views of the flowering fields leading to the lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean. The rooms are all large with traditional furniture. The dining room opens onto a marble patio, and the patio circles the entire house. The living room is exceptionally large with views on three sides – perfect for having an evening cocktail while watching the sun set into the Atlantic. The house has wi-fi with fast connection. The house was spotless on arrival and the maid, who lives in a separate house on the grounds, was available and helpful when needed.

A wonderful retreat

Guest: Miguel (New York)
Date of Stay: 11/06/09 Review Submitted: 05/03/11

Quiet, secluded, beautiful spot which is idyllic for either artists, writers and poets, or those who wish to explore the surrounding palaces, monasteries, quaint villages and especially beaches! The view from the master bedroom is breathtaking and one feels as if one is on the prow of a huge ship. There are of course the traditional riding, tennis and golfing facilities in the area as well. It is not a new or modern villa but that is part of the charm...and it is unique.

Beautiful scenic holiday

Guest: Roberta (Warwick, NY, USA)
Date of Stay: 03/04/11 Review Submitted: 05/02/11

My family recently spent a wonderful holiday at this villa in Estoril. The house is wonderful and comfortable with lots of room for entertaining and a terrace for relaxing in the sun. The house overlooks the beautiful coastline of the Atlantic with the Copa De Roca lighthouse in view. The location is great in relation to public transportation as a bus that will take you to Sintra where it connects to the train is virtually at the end of the drive. Household conveniences were fine and the housekeeping was up to our expectations. There are great restaurants in walking distance of the villa. This a truly a beautiful place to vacation.

Excellent views surround but poorly maintained

Guest: Martin (Singapore)
Date of Stay: 07/15/09 Review Submitted: 07/23/10

The house is located in a beautiful location with great views. We stayed for 2 weeks in June, a family of 6, but experienced problems from the start of our stay. The property is not well maintained, the cooking utensils in the kitchen were rusty, some broken. We had to clean most of the items. The refrigerator was stocked with the housekeeper's food and was never removed despite our objection. The terrace was not swept and the house was surrounded with religious artefacts that created a scare to 2 young children. The Internet connection did not exist as mentioned on the vrbo site. The house is cold even during summer that requires heating all round. The owner requested that we pay additional money to pay the heating bill! We will not recommend the place.

Owner response:We are very sorry that your stay was not up to standard. We had just hired a new caretaker and his wife to take care of the villa one month before your arrival date of July 2009 and they were not doing their jobs properly. After you brought the situation to our attention, they were immediately fired. We hired a new caretaker and maid in August 2009 to ensure that our villa was properly maintained and kept to a high standard. To date all of our guests have been very happy! We would be delighted if you and your family come and visit the villa again--free of charge.
