The Lake House

Copake Lake is located in the heart of the picturesque rolling hills of Columbia County. Motorboats are allowed. It is halfway between the antiques center of Hudson, NY and the New England charm of Great Barrington, MA. Great restaurants, theaters, museums and all of the cultural attractions of the Berkshires are just a short drive away - that is, if you can tear yourself away from the lake!

Beautiful four year old cabin-style lakefront home on The Island at Copake Lake. The 26 acre island was once a famous camp in the 20's and 30's and is now an exclusive gated community of nine homes. We designed the house to feel like a rustic mini-lodge but with all the comforts including Central Air, DW, WD, Cable, DSL.

The main floor has an open-concept living room, dining room and kitchen with a 22 foot cathedral ceiling. There is a full bathroom with shower and a bedroom with full-sized bed. You walk-out to a deck high in the trees overlooking the lake and a leaf-fringed view of the Catskill Mountains in the distance. The deck has wooden Adirondack chairs, a round picnic table, a premium Napoleon gas grill - hooked up directly to an undergound tank so you don't have to change canisters - and wooden steps down to the lake.

There is a spacious loft overlooking the living room with twin beds.

The lower level master has a queen size bed and en suite bath with jetted tub and heated slate floor. There is also a utility room with a full sized washer and dryer. There is a walk-out to a gravel deck and hammock as well as a rock garden and steps leading to the lake.

Between the cottage and the beach is a tiny rustic log-sided bunkhouse that will sleep 4 kids in four bunks. Or great as a playhouse.

The property is an acre and a half and your own private lakefront is over 200 feet. We have left the property natural with towering oaks and maples and hemlocks, as well as pine and birches. It looks like a summer camp. The beach area is among the best on the lake - natural gravel and sand sloping gradually. Perfect for wading and swimming. There is a private "swim-dock" anchored 100 feet out from shore. Further along the waterfront is a rustic cedar seating area with glider. Further still is a picnic area with a large table, benches and another gas grill. There is also a boat dock. The owners' house has an additional 200 feet of private beach adjoining that of the rental cottage, also left wild and natural.

From the house you can walk to the golf course, restaurant and marina. The house is exquisitely made - custom built from all wood, not a piece of drywall. Perfect for a family of 2-6. (No smoking inside the house.)
