My husband and I recently returned to the Zadoc Brewster House for the fourth time, and I am going back in October with a friend for a " Girl"s Week ". Charming, elegant, beautifully appointed, ideally located, AND pet friendly, this is the perfect place to stay for a mid-coast Maine vacation. I almost hope for a rainy day when we go there, just for an excuse to curl up with a good book, enjoy the apartment, and if it's cool enough to fire up the wood burning stove, all the better. Cathy and George provide a wealth of information as to where to go, what to do, and where to eat. If there's something you want or need that you don't find in the apartment they are more than happy to accommodate you. They are the perfect hosts. Imagine being in a B and B, with ten times the room and privacy, and you'll get a sense of what it's like to stay at Zadoc brewster. I can't wait to be there again !Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

The listing description of the property was accurate and if anything could not possibly list all of the wonderful things about the 3 bedroom apartment we stayed in with our daughter and two grandchildren. Many of the furnishings were antiques, all of the furnishings were very tasteful and the apartment was beautifully decorated. We really enoyed the original artwork, wonderful books, the English dinnerware, the very well equipped kitchen and our very gracious hosts/owners. There was a computer and printer furnished and wireless internet available also. We have rented through VRBO several times in the past few years and this was by far the VERY BEST! I would recommend the Zadoc Brewster House to family and friends.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing.

We stayed in the upstairs apartment. Decent property. We found the bathrooms a bit small, but functional enough. Didn't bother us too much. Otherwise, the apartment is well furnished and tastefully decorated and there are a few things to do in the nearby areas. Owners were nice and quickly responded to our querries.Recommended for: Families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words about us - we were very happy to have had you stay with us and we do hope you will come again. Cheers. Cathy

This was our second time staying at the Captain Zadoc Brewster House. We stayed in the upstairs apartment. We had numerous family members from Rhode Island, Maine and Texas with us and it was perfect for family meals, game and movie nights, etc. We also love that we can walk or bike to anywhere in Rockland, and that it is so close to the coast. Catherine and George are the best hosts! We could not have been more pleased with our two weeks!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: And we couldn't be more pleased to have you- the perfect guests. We'll miss you.

Brewster house (upstairs apartment) met all our needs for a week on the Maine coast. Its kitchen was well equipped (maybe lacking a few spices and condiments). The washer/dryer were a convenient addition. We had 3 comfortable bedrooms to choose from for just the two of us. The upstairs apartment can easily accommodate a larger family or several couples. The living room/ dining room was spacious. The personal computer was an added touch we have not run into in other VRBO listed properties; it was very handy. We enjoyed our deck and the barbeque available for guests. The home has a filtered view of the Rockland harbor; if you want to sit on the water this is not the spot. It is very convenient to all the area has to offer and very fairly priced. Our hosts, Catherine and George, were gracious and very helpful in helping us explore the coast. We would not hesitate to stay there again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

This was our first time to rent a house online. I was a little nervous. We liked the fact that we could rent this property for the time we needed it, staying over on a Saturday evening. Most others were Friday to Friday rentals in the area. This house rental was flexible which met our needs. I felt confident from the photo's that the place was going to be cheerful if nothing else. It exceeded our expectations in so many ways. It was super clean with fresh paint, fabrics appliances, etc. Very lovely china and furnishings...and all the necessary items we needed to cook. Cathy and George provided excellent customer service and have exceptional attention to detail. Our family walked everyday and enjoyed the ocean breezes and views of the bay. We even walked to shopping and food. The workout room was well equiped and clean. We now have very fond memories and would love to return for another visit. I would definitely reccommend it to others.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: We love perfect guests like you! Please, please come again. WIth fond memories of you and your family, Cathy and George

Our family of four (with two young kids) spent 10 days in the upstairs apartment in early July 2010. We had a fantastic vacation. The unit is immaculate, tastefully decorated, and well-cared for. It truly feels like a home and not just a rental property. The owners have clearly put a tremendous amount of thought and effort into the property, and it shows in many different ways. They met us as we arrived and gave us a brief tour of the apartment. We had also arranged for a crib for our young daughter, and it had already been set up in one of the bedrooms. The three separate bedrooms ended up being ideal for the children, and because the weather was so warm, we used the air conditioning at night. Because of our small children, we had several meals in the apartment, and the kitchen had everything we needed. All in all, the apartment made traveling with small kids not just possible but actually enjoyable -- which is no easy feat. The owners were terrific. They were readily accessible when we locked ourselves out (twice!), gave us great suggestions for where to go with our kids, and were even kind enough to bring us a bottle of champagne to help us celebrate our younger child's 1st birthday. The home is more a "city" property, just north of downtown Rockland and right off Route 1, but Rockland harbor is just a few blocks away and it is a short drive to some local parks on the water. Although we found it a bit too far to walk to Main Street with our kids, it was a quick 2-minute drive to all the restaurants and shops and galleries, and it was also very easy to run up to Camden or Rockport too. There's a great grocery store just around the corner. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the property. It definitely felt like a home away from home and was a great place to sample Mid-Coast Maine.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: You are special people and it was a pleasure to have you at the Captain Zadoc Brewster House. We were very pleased to know that enjoyed your vacation and thank you for your kind words. With all best wishes.

We had so much fun at Bayview Square … I still go on and on about it! Many mornings I wish were mornings like the ones in Rockland Our stay was a delight from start to finish. The rooms were spacious and bright, warm and inviting. We felt at home immediately. The amenities were first-class and our hosts were gracious, fun and knowledgeable. There were some days I would have been content to stay in the house all day! We'd highly recommend a stay at Bayview Square when in Rockland – all the comforts of home and so much more. We certainly intend to pay a return visit. George S.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We stayed in the upstairs apartment for two days at the beginning of our week long trip to Maine and 2 more days at the end. I loved it so much that I couldn't wait to get back. This is absolutely a wonderful home away from home. The linens were of good quality, the beds were cozy, and the towels were thick and fluffy. The house even smelled wonderful and I'm particular. We don't have pets and I'm unfortunately allergic but even though the home is pet friendly I never detected a trace of pet odor or even had a tickle in my nose. There are plenty of windows for natural light and fresh air. We never needed the air conditioning. The house is full of interesting things to read and look at and is beautifully but comfortably furnished. There are plenty of sights and restaurants with in walking distance or a short drive. The Owl's Head Transportation Museum and Breakwater Lighthouse were some of our favorites. Camden and other lovely villages are close by as well. I loved having tea in the afternoon from a real china cup (no styrofoam!) The neighbors that we met were friendly- a couple of hospitable little girls shared there bikes with our little boys! Cathy and George have thought of everything and are so gracious, helpful and friendly. I highly recommend their home.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
