We stayed over the weekend of May 3-5. The cabin is really nice. Lovely views. The kitchen was fairly well stocked however lacking in basics like aluminum foil or plastic wrap. The tree swing was great. The porch is a really nice place to sit and relax. One negative that the owner can really do nothing about except to inform guests is that there is TONS of poison ivy all over. Just stay on the trails. The hike down to the lake was pretty easy. Very scenic. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The only critique I had was that window coverings in the bedrooms would be nice. My kids slept in the lower level bunk room but were a little scared with the recessed window right there uncovered. The cabin was clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay. The owner was very helpful in assisting me with all of our questions. Would stay again for sure!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

2 Families including 4 adults and 7 kids stayed for 4 nights. Cabin is not lake front or even lake view. Small path leads to gravel road -- then you must hike to lake. After initial walk to go fishing, dads & boys actually drove van to lake rather than walking. This cabin is very secluded. 20-25 mins. to any store. Cabin was clean as far as counter tops & linens. However, our feet were all black from dirt on floors and there are a lot of cracks in walls, etc. Also, there are no window treatments in any rooms. Upstairs bath has a napkin-type curtain pinned up on 1/2 the window but that is all. We had several issues which the owners were receptive to and we always make the best of everywhere we travel. However, given the location and fact that this property is not lake front, we would not stay again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

Just finished a week at the cabin on Nolin Lake. We are a group of 6 adults, 3 children, and 3 dogs who have vacationed together for the past 7 years. We've stayed in houses from Florida to Maine to Arkansas. This house was rated by all as the best mountain lake house we've ever rented. First, the property is clean and well maintained. Appliances, kitchen tools, bathrooms are all up to date. The grill is a little wobbly but works fine. Second, the space is ample for a large group and very private. The common areas are large and generous, affording space for all to socialize. The living room has 3 couches and the downstairs room has a large game area. There are two porches - large enough for group guitar singing. It's very secluded - at the end of a very long road. Third, the house is an easy walk to a private Nolin Lake access point. We explored the lake in our canoe, went fishing, rented a pontoon for a couple days (docked it at the house), took the kids tubing on the lake ($40 tube on amazon). We went on night swims, saw stars and the milky way under a clear sky. We explored the secret island (around the left side of the access point) and had fun jumping into the secret crevasse (in the rocks, hidden under a foot of water). The water was warmer than I ever imagined -like a bath!! We listened to and saw the Barred Owl (as well as bats) eat dinner near the street light, had a nice bonfire, and enjoyed a 6-inch moth that visited us on the porch. Things to be careful of: 1)poison ivy abounds off the beaten path. It's fine otherwise but avoid going off-trail. 2)The beach is a sandy/rocky/muddy bottom. Water shoes are recommended - the muck is not bad but does exist. 3)Close the gate. Sometimes the locals visit in the evenings- just close the gate. 4)Cell/3G service - okay strange stuff going on here. Completely nonsensical-sometimes 4 bars for cell and no 3G, other times 3G and no cell. It's not clear what affects this-certainly not weather. Sync your email a mile down the road-log into the Open Belkin network-or at the WalMart. You are on the edge of Eastern/Central time so what your phone says depends on what cell tower your phone is picking up. 5)bugs - we had like 5 bugs the entire time. Shocking, I know but true. Okay, some chiggers if you walk in the tall grass. 6)food plentiful at the WalMart 8.4 miles down the road. Bring gourmet stuff from home. 7)for car repairs, visit the very trustworthy Elvis for a cash-only deal. Awesome property, really!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This cabin was amazing! The pictures don't even come close to showing how much space it has. The cabin was three stories! It had three bedrooms on the top floor with one full bathroom to share. The middle floor and enterence way from driveway had the kitchen, full bathroom and living room with a fireplace. Bottom floor had a TV room and bunk beds with full bathroom and laundry room. We fit 8 people comfortably. The cabin had an amazing picnic, fire pit area out front that we enjoyed ever night. The back porch had Better Homes furniture (not cheap stuff) with full cushions and tables. The kitchen had top-notch appliances...coffee maker, ice-maker, etc. The entire cabin was rigged with an outdoor stereo system to blast tunes. The best part was the complete isolation. No one around but the birds. We were in heaven. The cabin was decorated classy and truly felt like you were staying in the family cabin or a good friend's weekend retreat. It was no cheap, manufactured cabin. It had the cabin feel...all wood. We look forward to staying again. Thank you soo much for the heads up to bring BUG SPRAY!! You forget how it is being out in the forest. Lots of bugs and a few ticks. Light the bug candles and load up on spray.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
