ABOUT LAKE COUNTY AND CLEARLAKE
Clear Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the State of California and second oldest lake in the world! Visitors enjoy fishing, swimming, sailing, wind surfing, parasailing, water-skiing, boating, and riding jet skis. There are 11 free boat launch ramps around the lake, and individuals can rent boats and personal watercraft from many local businesses. Clear Lake can be found in beautiful Lake County, approximately 90 minutes northwest of Sacramento and 90 minutes northeast of San Francisco. For thirteen consecutive years Lake County has had the cleanest air in all of California. Winters are mild here, generally 40s and 50s and Summer temperatures are usually in the 80s and 90s.
The lake itself is truly magnificent. It stretches nearly twenty miles in length and includes over 100 miles of shoreline. Considered a “warm water” lake, the bass fishing is unrivaled as witnessed by the many fishing tournaments held here annually.. Professional fishing organizations such as BassMasters, W.O.N. Bass, Angler’s Choice, American Bass, West Coast Bass, and FLW, to name just a few, are regular participants. The record large mouth bass caught out of this lake weighed a whopping 17.52 pounds!
Please note that as Clearlake is a healthy, nutrient rich lake, it is susceptible to algae blooms during periods of warm temperatures, particularly in mid-August, which some guests find unpleasant to swim in. As the weather cools the algae dissapears and Fall brings clearer water to the Lake. If swimming is one of your primary reasons for visiting Clear Lake, we encourage you to visit in the Spring, early Sumer, or early Fall. Summer is an excellent time of year for bass and catfish fishing, kayaking, boating, wine tasting, exporing Lake County or just relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

Great place however parking with a large boat is difficult.

I have enjoyed both stays at this home. The only problem I have had is parking and turning around my truck with boat attached. I would not recomend this house for anyone with a 18 foot or larger boat without four wheel drive. There is a turn around but it steep on gravel and a very tight fit. A very nice view and overall could not be happier with the accomadations. The owner has always gone above to make the guest stay pleasent and a clean comfortable home.
Owner response:We're glad to hear that you enjoyed both your stays at Heron's Nest!! We do recommend four wheel drive for guests towing a boat, but have to say we disagree with your comments about large boats. We have had many guests with up to 25 foot boats that are able to get in and out easily without any problem. Many of our guests are tournament bass fisherman and they appreciate all the space for parking cars and boats and the turn-about in the driveway which makes it easy to get in and out while towing a a boat. This property is actually ideal for guests with boats compared to most of the vacation homes in the Clear Lake area. It requires no manuevering or backing up, just drive straight ahead, and around the turn-about. If towing a boat with two wheel drive, we recommend using low gear and accelerating slowly and steadily. Four wheel drive is not needed for vehicles that are not towing a boat. Sincerely, Dave and Christy

Hi Dave, Just wanted to say, thank you again! The home was fabulous the weather held up for me and we could not have had a better time. The pictures were good but it served the property no justice. Plenty of open space and I cannot say enough about the views. No need to call about anything the information and instructions you provide in the home is very detailed and answers any question you may have. The only hang up we had was trying to close the lockbox again, while its not rocket science it took two of us to figure it out. Lot of laughter but we got it closed. Thank you we had a wonderful time! Khaiersta

My husband and I had a great time at Heron's Nest. The view was absolutely beautiful in 3 directions. The house was spacious and very clean and had all the amenities listed, and the owners were very accommodating and helpful. They even mailed my phone charger to me which I had left there when we checked out. We got a lot more space, comfort, and privacy for a lower price than what we would have paid staying at one of the nearby resorts. I definitely recommend visiting Clear Lake State Park which is nearby. The water there was beautiful and clean for swimming, even when there was algae in other parts of the lake. We took a drive around the entire lake, to see its beauty from all angles, and stopped for lunch at Park Place Restaurant in Lakeport, which we also highly recommend.

Our expectations were not only met but wonderfully surpassed. The house was pristine, spacious, comfortably furnished and the bed was divine. We enjoyed the peaceful quiet of the location enormously. The owners were quick to respond to all of our questions and truly made us feel welcome. We will be sharing our delightful stay with everyone we know and highly recommend Heron's Nest.
