Experience beautiful Grayton Beach without the crowds by taking advantage of our Winter Special! Stay in the Historic Smith House for only $150/night! (Christmas & New Years excluded)

Enjoy a rare opportunity to stay in one of the most historic homes in Grayton Beach -- The Smith House. Originally built as a 1-room cottage in 1925 by Tuff Smith, he used salvaged cypress that washed up on the shores of Grayton after the ship that was transporting the lumber caught fire and sank.

In March of 2009, the Smith House was purchased by members of a long-time Grayton family who have lovingly renovated the home, adding all the modern conveniences while maintaining its true southern “old Grayton” charm. Featuring vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, the house is decorated in vintage Florida style. Interior walls are fashioned from sinker cypress (giant cypress logs salvaged from the bottom of the Choctawhatchee River), the grain of each board a work of natural art. The kitchen, which includes granite counters, an ultra-quiet dishwasher, a new oven, a new refrigerator, and everything you would need to cook a gourmet meal, is top of the line. The bathroom has been overhauled with a double vanity sink, and a new double-bunk room has been added. The house has flat-screened TVs (with DVD players) in the bedrooms and living room, as well as wireless internet service, and an iPod player.

The best part of the house is probably the large screened porch, which includes 2 comfortable sitting areas, a rustic cypress dining table that easily seats 8, and a comfortable day bed for relaxing. The spacious outdoor shower, with hot and cold water, is just off the screened porch.

After spending the day on the beach, you may want to use the 2 complimentary beach bikes to explore the adjoining beach towns in the late afternoon. In the evening, you have an easy walk to the world-famous Red Bar restaurant as well as several other outstanding dining opportunities.

The Smith House is the perfect vacation retreat for your family. You will want to come back year after year!

Owner's Map of Grayton Beach

As a 6th generation Walton County native, I spent every summer of my childhood on the sands of Grayton Beach. My husband & I are lucky to have raised our 2 sons here as well. We love the charm and authenticity of Old Grayton, the fabulous beach and lake, the friendly locals, and the quirky nature of our town. We are honored to own the Smith House and hope you will love it as we do.

    • We absolutely enjoyed our stay in this wonderful cottage! The perfect balance of rustic charm and modern amenities. The owners have thought of everything you might need - a fully stocked kitchen with super appliances, complimentary bikes, beach needs, and even a box of books for the little ones! The Smith House was charming and comfortable, from the cozy beds to to the rockers on the porch. Just what we needed for a wonderful weekend away from home!

    • Perfect beach cottage at the perfect beach location! We just returned from a girl's weekend at the Smith Cottage and it was a transforming experience. The cottage has every amenity needed for a relaxing and stress free vacation. Grayton Beach is a little slice of heaven - small and quaint surronded by state parks with miles of sand dunes and uncrowded beaches. If you want to escape to an authentic Florida cottage by the sea, away from the crowds, this is the place for you! The owners have thought of everything and it was hard to leave this adorable cottage. We vowed to return - just as soon as we possibly can to the Smith Cottage. We couldn't recommend it higher.

    • What a delightful cottage! We had a wonderful weekend at The Smith House and Grayton beach with our three young children. The house is stocked with everything you need for your holiday including cooking basics which makes it super easy for a weekend away. How refreshing it was to stay in a place that has true charm and originality. We really got a sense of what the Old Florida is like. The beach with its sugar sand and turquoise water is amazing, and the nearby restaurants/bars were excellent. Everything is a short walk from this lovely cottage. Forget the car! The Buzzetts were so hospitable and helpful. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Great fun.

Well, I finally figured out the reason it took me so long to spend a few days in Grayton Beach – it was meant for me to wait for the Smith House to get renewed and “all dolled up.” This little beach cottage is absolutely adorable. We had a real sweet time and I’m taking home some cute photos, but even more mental snapshots of a beautiful trip in a lovely home. Thanks for sharing it with my family….

    • The pictures of the Smith House were great, but when I arrived it was even better than the pictures represented! We had every comfort of home during our stay and the owners have gone above and beyond to make the house comfortable and very functional. It was so nice to have everything we needed for the beach - an umbrella, chairs, towels, even a cooler! Oh, and a wagon to carry everything. I love Grayton and LOVE the Smith House. I can't wait to get back!

    • ALTHOUGH THE LISTING GIVES A GREAT DESCRIPTION OF THE SMITH HOUSE, WORDS AND PICTURES CANNOT ACCURATELY EXPRESS THE ESSENCE OF THE COTTAGE. A THIRD GENERATION FLORIDIAN MYSELF, I COULD FEEL MY ANCESTORS AS I MOVED THROUGH THE HOUSE, IT IS THAT AUTHENTIC. I ALSO WAS THANKFUL FOR THE MODERN ADDITIONS MY FAMILY WAS NOT ABLE TO ENJOY. ADD THE UNEQUALED BEAUTY OF GRAYTON BEACH, AND THIS IS TRULY AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME. WE ARE SO GRATEFUL TO HAVE ENJOYED THIS PIECE OF "OLD FLORIDA" NOT EASILY FOUND TODAY. THANK YOU
