Les Hirondelles is a 19th century stone barn lovingly converted into a 2 bedroom gite, just situated just outside the village of Contrieres in a small hamlet, La Planche Bourdon, and just 7 km south of the beautiful cathedral city of Coutances. The two bedroom gite, forms about half of the property with the other half occupied by your friendly hosts, Shirley and Clive who are always on hand if you need them.
Les Hirondelles, means The Swallows. Unfortunately we can't boast swallows, but we do have our own resident Tawny Owls, who return annually to nest.

The countryside is agricultural, peaceful and quiet. There are small towns and villages all around with nearby towns and their wonderful markets, each on different days of the week. Not to miss are, Villedieu-les-Poeles on Tuesday, Granville on Saturdays, Coutances on Thursday. These markets overflow with fresh, local grown produce, delicious cheese, wine and so much more.

ACCOMMODATION

The double bedroom boasts a large double bed with a comfy orthopaedic style mattress, dressed in pretty blue and cream colours. This room has an ensuite bathroom, with full size bath, over the bath shower, toilet and hand basin. Opens onto a pretty garden with floral borders.

The twin bedded room has 2 modern divans with Tempur mattresses. Tastefully dressed in cream and burgundy/rose, and has a family shower room adjacent. The windows open onto the garden and a quiet country lane

The large family lounge has two large comfy settees where you can curl up with a book, watch a movie or just listen to music. Family games for indoors and also garden games for the whole family to join in.

The Kitchen/dining area is a large and sunny room with all the appliances you need to make life easy for you. Double doors open onto the garden where BBQ facilities are available and all that is needed for outdoor dining for up to 6 people.

To make you feel at home, a welcome basket of wine, tea, coffee and milk, juice for the children, plus bread, butter and cereals for breakfast awaits your arrival. Fresh eggs are available from the farm across the road.

Feel free to wander in any part of our gardens; advice and help is always appreciated.

THINGS TO DO IN NORMANDY

There are so many things to do and to suit all ages, it would be impossible to list them all. But here are just a few...

The Normandy landing beaches are just an hour away. Whether you have family memories to discover or an historic interest you will find poignant reminders of this region’s past around every corner. The D Day landing beaches and museums are alive with memories and memorials. Those beaches that once witnessed the d-day landings are now places of tranquility and fun, with miles and miles of golden sand and blue sea.

Head southwards from Les Hirondelles and discover Mont St Michel, a beautiful place and a very worthwhile trip, that will need several house to explore all that it has to offer! Then just an hour away, in the opposite direction, is the historic town of Bayeux with its famous tapestry. From home a ten minute drive will take you to the beautiful sandy beach at Hauteville-sur-Mer. Sand as far as the eye can see. Good old fashioned fun on the beach with none of the candyfloss and fun fair trappings. Grab a bucket and spade for the children and don't forget your deck chair!!!
So many things to see and do!! Zoos, Dior Museum and gardens, shopping precincts, Cathedrals, and beautiful Normandy churches.

There are many beautiful gardens, literally on our doorstep, just waiting for you to discover. Deer and wild boar roam these local forests and can sometimes be seen in early evening feeding at the roadside. Hedgerows and banks are speckled with primroses. Wild orchids, foxglove and campanula festoon the ancient hedges and gardens...

RESTAURANTS

Normandy is a gastronomic delight - where you can start the day with freshly baked bread and croissants, stop for a lunch of Moules Frites in a local bistro and finish your day with a four course French culinary masterpiece because in Normandy, food is an art form.

If you prefer to cook and eat at home then the markets have it all. From cheese to sausages! Kippers to Moulles. These markets are a treat with local cheeses, fresh off the boat seafood, fabulous fruit and vegetables; The Skipper at Hautville plage is open all day for moules, pancakes and omelettes. Au Pirate in Granville has a more varied menu, from sandwiches to moules and king size prawns to steak, all washed down with beer, wine or Normandy cider.

So there you have it! We haven't run out of things to do, just space to put them all on the site! Now you've looked, take a break! then just book it and join us here for a little bit of Normandy heaven.
