One of a kind retreat for families, a romantic get away for two, or fishing/hunting lodge. This property overlooks Big Cypress Bayou river which is 3.3miles down the river from CADDO Lake. It is 10 minutes from Historic Jefferson, TX, 20 minutes from old money oil town of Marshal, TX, and 30 minutes from the wide awake Casino town of Shreveport, LA.

The house is on a private road which lends to peace and quiet, and has great secluded access to the river for amazing waterskiing, jet skiing, and boating. If you have a boat, we have a private boat slip, ramp within 100yeads of the house, and lots of great little fishing holes along the river and back into the cypress forest.

There is also a room off the deck that is equipped with a four person hot tub. The house not only has an outdoor grill, but also a wood burning smoker/BBQ pit. A bonfire is always fun in the cooler months, so sit back relax and enjoy the man-made blaze in the fire pit walking distance from the house.

The Riverhouse is within 10 miles by boat or car to 8,000 acres of public hunting land: deer, squirrel, hog, duck, turkey, and alligator to name a few. You must have a TX hunting license and Type 2 permit. Also, be prepared to follow all TX game and wildlife laws for Marion and Harrison County.

Why the Owner Chose Jefferson

We enjoy water sports. We enjoy fishing. We enjoy relaxing. This is a perfect spot for unwinding from the daily grind. It is easy access to Jefferson and to Shreveport if we want to pick up the pace a little. We can take our boat into Jefferson and park at the riverbank and shop and eat! Too many great reasons to list.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We enjoy taking a boat ride into Jefferson for breakfast on Sundays. We enjoy the secluded area we live in. We have a boating ramp that is within 100 yards of our home, so we have a great time on the water. We can fish right off of our deck because the cabin was built on the riverbank and much, much more.

We are in medical sales and cover territories that include Nacogdoches, Longview, and Shreveport. We have two children from my husband's first marriage and enjoy spending not only family time at the cabin, but also time alone. We have hosted many family gatherings and parties over the past five years, but have gotten significantly busier as of late and have had very little time to retreat. We hope you will enjoy the place. Anyone who spends time with us at the River wants to return. We hope you will too!!

What a wonderful vacation spot!

Guest: Debbie (Dallas, TX)
Date of Stay: 12/27/11 Review Submitted: 01/07/12

We stayed at the river house for two nights after Christmas. It was even better than we expected. The house was lovely and very clean, the view and the fishing were great. My husband and I took our 15 year old son and 6 year old nephew with us and we all had a wonderful time. The kids loved the hot tub, collecting fallen limbs in the woods for the fire, roasting marshmallows in the fire pit, and fishing right off the back porch and off the deck of the house boat. The kids caught several fish each which was really exciting. The home and decks are even nicer than the pictures. The owners were great to deal with and even gave us lots of info before our arrival and some great fishing tips. We drove into Marshall for the Wonderland of Lights festival our second night there. That was a neat experience as well with outdoor ice skating and other things for the kids. It is such a unique property, I wish we had been able to stay longer! Thank you for sharing your home with us-we will definitely be back.

What a great place to relax

The owners are great folks, easy to deal with. This place is off the beaten path, only saw 2 cars drive by all week. We fished right off the deck and the boat hooked up to it. caught lots of crappie, stripers and a few catfish. The hot tub was awesome, in it's own room, we hit it every morning and nite. The firepit was a blast. The place is clean, bed very comfy and very quiet. We would go back here anytime. Marshall and Jefferson both 20 minutes away. But this place was so relaxing we hardly left. I wish it were mine.

Fantastic week - would love to go back!

Date of Stay: 08/08/11 Review Submitted: 08/18/11

Just returned from a week's break at the cabin with my husband and two small children, and really can't recommend highly enough. The cabin is clean, spacious and very well equipped with the highlight being the deck, where we spent most of our week. The view is incredible and the fishing was great, even if the kids did catch considerably more than us! The cabin was in a great location for exploring the local area - must sees are Caddo Lake (try a boat trip with the Graceful Ghost), Jefferson with it's plethora of antique shops and we even hopped across the border into Louisiana. Most nights it was just great to relax and eat at the cabin, but we did eat a couple of times in Jefferson at the Hamburger Store (definitely the 'best burgers in East Texas') and Joseph's Riverport Barbeque. The owners have been incredibly helpful all through the booking process and gave us plenty of information prior to arrival. We were even lucky enough to meet Randy when we got there, so definitely the personal touch! Our son was in tears the night before we left, as he didn't want to leave - always the sign of a great week. We all felt sad leaving, and would love to go back to explore more - and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Amazing Getaway

Guest: Rested & Relaxed (East Texas)
Date of Stay: 07/15/11 Review Submitted: 07/22/11

My husband and I spent a lovely weekend in this home. It is a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy the view of the Big Cypress Bayou river. It was so restful we didn't want to leave. The house is very clean and well-maintained and the price can't be beat. You can fish right off the covered deck in back our just sit and enjoy the view. If you need some rest and relaxation in your life this is the place to come. We drove into Jefferson for some shopping and dining and had a great time. We have stayed in many VRBO homes and these owners are the best we have ever worked with. They are very nice and accommodating.

Not what we were expecting

Guest: Gilliansage (Rowlett, Tx)
Date of Stay: 06/25/11 Review Submitted: 06/29/11

The house was beautiful. Didn't seem very secure though. Best for a small family, a few fishing buddies, but not for the group of 8 that planned on staying there. The notes were added after we had visited and I'm thinking access to the house boat also requires, no fear of heights, the ability to walk a small horizontal metal ladder sober, and daring. We found food left over in the fridge. Some expired back in 08. Fish in a turned off freezer. (Smelled really bad), but the view was amazing. We also expected the house to have more than one bedroom. The couch was consider to be a bed. The house boat was considered to be the additional bedroom. It was really nice inside the actual house, but not for a group of 8 adults with 5 of them being women. I would consider your group before actually deciding. It just wasn't for us, and I've camped in a tent with 4 others and wild havelina's running around.

Charming cottage on the river

Date of Stay: 05/25/11 Review Submitted: 05/27/11

Tranquil and relaxing vacation home. My family and I enjoyed this home and all the amenities that it had to offer. The home was very nice and clean. The access to the river was very easy. My favourite part of this home was the porch that overlooked the river. I had my 2 yr old granddaughter with me and I was never once afraid for her safety as she enjoyed playing and looking at the river from this porch. I recommend this home to anyone that enjoys the beautiful scenery that Caddo Lake has to offer. We will be back but to stay longer next time. Thank you for sharing this home with us.

A Unique and Romantic Getaway

Guest: Terry (Purcell, OK)
Date of Stay: 07/10/10 Review Submitted: 07/17/10

My wife and I went for a quiet and romantic week away from work. We got just what we were looking for. This is a charming cabin located on a bayou. The water flows directly under the deck. I'm not a fisherman but even I was tempted to go buy a pole and a fishing license. Every morning we watched a huge catfish wallow around in the water under the deck. My wife wanted to name him...I wanted to eat him. It is truly a fisherman's paradise but like I said, I don't fish. I spent a lot of time in the hot tub. I don't have a hot tub at home so I was really looking forward to that. The owners made sure it was ready to go for my visit. There is plenty to do in the area. During our week we went on a steamboat tour of Caddo lake (very affordable and I highly recommend it). The lake is located a few miles East of the cabin and the area is full of history. You've never seen a lake quite like Caddo lake. About 7 miles west of the cabin is the historic town of Jefferson with lots of antique shops and restaurants. Jefferson is the reason we went to the area in the first place. My wife likes antique shopping and there is a "Gone With the Wind" museum that she wanted to see. (the museum is owned and operated by an elderly widow woman so plan to call her to schedule a time to visit...she's very sweet and if you like to movie, she can tell you everything about it and the people that were in it). Jefferson also has horse-drawn carriage rides, a huge museum, beautiful homes and even a ghost walk tour. About 35 minutes southeast of the cabin is Shreveport. We went over and played some blackjack and craps for a few hours. We actually left the casino with $66 more than we went in with so we immediately went shopping with our new-found riches. We traveled another 45 minutes east of Shreveport and visited the location where Bonnie and Clyde were gunned down. In the week that we were there, the cabin began to feel like home to us. The cabin and the area really grows on you and we definately plan to return sometime. The owners of the cabin are very friendly and make you feel like their cabin is your cabin. Working out the details with them was easy and they genuinely want you to have a good time. This place is one-of-a-kind.
