My husband and I stayed here this past weekend. After scouring the web for lodging on short notice I discovered this gem. Agree with other reviewers that it's hard to share good ratings so we can keep it to ourselves. ;-) When we weren't out and about most of our time was spent on the deck. The view was absolutely gorgeous. Relaxing and very peaceful of property. Met nearby neighbors and they were very friendly. While out and about we spent time at Auntie Skinner's in Jefferson. Took tour boat ride on Big Cypress Bayou. Drove around Caddo Lake and State Park and then trip into Shreveport for gambling on the boats. Was difficult to leave and even more harder coming back to work. We plan to return for longer stay and take our grandkids so they can enjoy the houseboat. Property owners were very friendly, accommodating and helped with directions and things to do.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Husband and I stayed here past weekend. After scouring the web for places to stay on short-term notice we discovered this rental. We were more than pleased when we arrived. Spent most of our time on the deck while we were on the property. Took trip into Jefferson for drink at Auntie Skinner's and tour boat ride. From there we drove around Caddo lake, State Park then went to boats in Shreveport. The view from the deck was absolutely gorgeous. Very peaceful and relaxing. It was good to get away and very difficult to leave. The owners were very friendly and assisted with directions and sights to see. We met people that lived in the area and they were also very friendly. We look forward to going back for a longer stay and taking our grandkids.Did you find this review helpful? What a wonderful long weekend we had here on the bayou! The property was perfect for our anniversary get away. The cabin was immaculate and the view from the deck so peaceful. We did not want to leave. There was a huge thunderstorm one night (including a tornado watch). We had a weather radio, but were also able to follow the storm on the TV. Not to fear. In spite of the loud thunder, crashing lightning and torrents of rain we were snug and dry watching from the covered deck. Not a creak or shimmy--this place is solid! There is a lot to do in the area and several decent restaurants but I would have been happy just hanging out in this beautiful place. As noted in a previous post, the houseboat is adventurous to access (sort of a gangplank) and has few amenities, but would be perfect for older kids, teens & young adults to have their own "getaway" spot---kind of like camping, but it is close to the house for parental supervision.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had an excellent time at this wonderful house on the Big Cypress Bayou! Enjoyed being able to dock the boat each night instead of pulling it in and out each day. The house was clean and very well kept. Fishing was alright but much needed rain had the bayou rising and murky. Can't complain since the rain was a welcome sight. Saw one gator on our last day there that was exciting. On the down side the property is for sale, would love to come back to it again sometime. Maybe the new owners will rent it out also.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My husband & I stayed in this house from 01/13-01/16 - loved it! Great get-away, secluded, and private. Just minutes to Jefferson, where we spent a lot of our time for meals & antique shopping. If looking for a change of pace from the hustle & bustle of a hectic lifestyle - this is it! Fishing right off the back deck & relaxing in the hot tub were great. Although we did not make it to the nearby State Park, we have been before & is a good place to explore the outdoors a little. Owners were very easy to deal with, photos accurate, property well maintained & clean. We would recommend this to others & consider a return trip in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at the river house for two nights after Christmas. It was even better than we expected. The house was lovely and very clean, the view and the fishing were great. My husband and I took our 15 year old son and 6 year old nephew with us and we all had a wonderful time. The kids loved the hot tub, collecting fallen limbs in the woods for the fire, roasting marshmallows in the fire pit, and fishing right off the back porch and off the deck of the house boat. The kids caught several fish each which was really exciting. The home and decks are even nicer than the pictures. The owners were great to deal with and even gave us lots of info before our arrival and some great fishing tips. We drove into Marshall for the Wonderland of Lights festival our second night there. That was a neat experience as well with outdoor ice skating and other things for the kids. It is such a unique property, I wish we had been able to stay longer! Thank you for sharing your home with us-we will definitely be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The owners are great folks, easy to deal with. This place is off the beaten path, only saw 2 cars drive by all week. We fished right off the deck and the boat hooked up to it. caught lots of crappie, stripers and a few catfish. The hot tub was awesome, in it's own room, we hit it every morning and nite. The firepit was a blast. The place is clean, bed very comfy and very quiet. We would go back here anytime. Marshall and Jefferson both 20 minutes away. But this place was so relaxing we hardly left. I wish it were mine.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Just returned from a week's break at the cabin with my husband and two small children, and really can't recommend highly enough. The cabin is clean, spacious and very well equipped with the highlight being the deck, where we spent most of our week. The view is incredible and the fishing was great, even if the kids did catch considerably more than us! The cabin was in a great location for exploring the local area - must sees are Caddo Lake (try a boat trip with the Graceful Ghost), Jefferson with it's plethora of antique shops and we even hopped across the border into Louisiana. Most nights it was just great to relax and eat at the cabin, but we did eat a couple of times in Jefferson at the Hamburger Store (definitely the 'best burgers in East Texas') and Joseph's Riverport Barbeque. The owners have been incredibly helpful all through the booking process and gave us plenty of information prior to arrival. We were even lucky enough to meet Randy when we got there, so definitely the personal touch! Our son was in tears the night before we left, as he didn't want to leave - always the sign of a great week. We all felt sad leaving, and would love to go back to explore more - and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I spent a lovely weekend in this home. It is a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy the view of the Big Cypress Bayou river. It was so restful we didn't want to leave. The house is very clean and well-maintained and the price can't be beat. You can fish right off the covered deck in back our just sit and enjoy the view. If you need some rest and relaxation in your life this is the place to come. We drove into Jefferson for some shopping and dining and had a great time. We have stayed in many VRBO homes and these owners are the best we have ever worked with. They are very nice and accommodating.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The house was beautiful. Didn't seem very secure though. Best for a small family, a few fishing buddies, but not for the group of 8 that planned on staying there. The notes were added after we had visited and I'm thinking access to the house boat also requires, no fear of heights, the ability to walk a small horizontal metal ladder sober, and daring. We found food left over in the fridge. Some expired back in 08. Fish in a turned off freezer. (Smelled really bad), but the view was amazing. We also expected the house to have more than one bedroom. The couch was consider to be a bed. The house boat was considered to be the additional bedroom. It was really nice inside the actual house, but not for a group of 8 adults with 5 of them being women. I would consider your group before actually deciding. It just wasn't for us, and I've camped in a tent with 4 others and wild havelina's running around.Recommended for: Adventure seekers

Tranquil and relaxing vacation home. My family and I enjoyed this home and all the amenities that it had to offer. The home was very nice and clean. The access to the river was very easy. My favourite part of this home was the porch that overlooked the river. I had my 2 yr old granddaughter with me and I was never once afraid for her safety as she enjoyed playing and looking at the river from this porch. I recommend this home to anyone that enjoys the beautiful scenery that Caddo Lake has to offer. We will be back but to stay longer next time. Thank you for sharing this home with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I went for a quiet and romantic week away from work. We got just what we were looking for. This is a charming cabin located on a bayou. The water flows directly under the deck. I'm not a fisherman but even I was tempted to go buy a pole and a fishing license. Every morning we watched a huge catfish wallow around in the water under the deck. My wife wanted to name him...I wanted to eat him. It is truly a fisherman's paradise but like I said, I don't fish. I spent a lot of time in the hot tub. I don't have a hot tub at home so I was really looking forward to that. The owners made sure it was ready to go for my visit. There is plenty to do in the area. During our week we went on a steamboat tour of Caddo lake (very affordable and I highly recommend it). The lake is located a few miles East of the cabin and the area is full of history. You've never seen a lake quite like Caddo lake. About 7 miles west of the cabin is the historic town of Jefferson with lots of antique shops and restaurants. Jefferson is the reason we went to the area in the first place. My wife likes antique shopping and there is a "Gone With the Wind" museum that she wanted to see. (the museum is owned and operated by an elderly widow woman so plan to call her to schedule a time to visit...she's very sweet and if you like to movie, she can tell you everything about it and the people that were in it). Jefferson also has horse-drawn carriage rides, a huge museum, beautiful homes and even a ghost walk tour. About 35 minutes southeast of the cabin is Shreveport. We went over and played some blackjack and craps for a few hours. We actually left the casino with $66 more than we went in with so we immediately went shopping with our new-found riches. We traveled another 45 minutes east of Shreveport and visited the location where Bonnie and Clyde were gunned down. In the week that we were there, the cabin began to feel like home to us. The cabin and the area really grows on you and we definately plan to return sometime. The owners of the cabin are very friendly and make you feel like their cabin is your cabin. Working out the details with them was easy and they genuinely want you to have a good time. This place is one-of-a-kind.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
