Windrift is a unique beach front cottage that has a cozy cabin feel. With direct beach access you don't have to lug all of your beach items back and forth everyday. Windrift is also located near many turtle nests so if you are lucky enough to be there at a specific time of year you may have the rare opportunity to watch baby turtles hatching.
From our cottage you can enjoy the sunrise and sunset. It is also fun to take the short 15 minute drive into Southport where there are many things to do like go antiquing, browse through art galleries, eat on the water, go biking, crabbing or just take a swing on the waterfront. You will love the old fashion flavor found in this unique coastal town. If you are up for a day trip take the ferry to Bald Head Island or Fort Fisher to the NC Aquarium or drive to Wilmington or Myrtle Beach where there are endless possibilities for fun. Oak Island is a laid back family beach where you can truly relax, but when you want more excitement it can be found a short distance away.

last minute rental over the new year holiday. The owner went out of their way to make our stay possible. we had friends down over the weekend and it was perfect. Our dogs loved the beach and the gated porch. Even the weather was great with temps in the 60's and one day the low 70's. We would recommend this cottage and the owners to everyone but not over the new year because we will try that date again if possible this year. Thanks Kathlene

We brought 4 adults and 1 toddler to this perfectly located house on Oak Island. We enjoyed the easy access to the beach, the grocery store, and especially the shady back porch, where we had many dinners with food from Haag and Sons seafood. The outdoor shower is fantastic. Having never been to Oak Island, we were impressed with the stretch of beach that we had to ourselves. We would definitely like to return in the future.

My new husband and I were married on the island and stayed here for our honeymoon. The house was so pottery barn-ish & homey. Very clean place! Loved the front porch, we laid on the beach and were able to leave our dog on the enclosed porch. He loved this! Beach front is amazing. Private walkway made it as perfect as could be. Thank you for the welcome sans pail, we forgot about our wedding night wine and thank god for Kathleen! We had a glass and are saving the rest for our first anniversary which we will be spending at the windrift! Booking in advance to be sure! :-) not only did we feel at home this place is special and helped us make new memories and traditions! Thank you thank you thank you! The only thing I didn't like was the chairs at the table! I think I broke a different for every time I walked into one ha ha. I highly recommend and we will be return guests!

We really enjoyed this house. My husband and I stayed there with our 2 college-age daughters. We were there in May and it was particularly quiet; we had the beach pretty much to ourselves. There was no internet at the house, but we found a lovely coffee shop (Flying Pig) to visit for access. We also found a sushi and a Thai restaurant we liked. Oak Island seems to be simple and not overdeveloped and without a lot of overly grand new houses. All a plus for us. The beach was particularly wide and smooth at low tide, no big drop offs or ugly erosion. The house was just lovely and had everything we needed. We'd like to rent it again.

The owner was great with making the arrangements considering this was a last minute get-a-away for us. 2 adults, 4 kids & our boxer and we had planty of room. Yes you can only access the bathrooms thru the bedrooms, but with 4 bedrooms we did not find this to be a problem. A quaint cottage with a nice antique feel! Lots of books, tv, dvd player, etc. This was perfect for our family and our mini-vacation that we were in dire need of...husband due to deploy this yr, so nice to have quality family time away from it all and able to bring our dog as well... and we adored being directly on the beach, walk off the deck right onto the beach. A lil cooler this time of yr, but Saturday was beautiful and we stayed on the beach all day. Refreshing, everything we needed was there. We will definately be coming to the WIndrift and recommending to friends. Thank you so much for lending us your beach cottage!!

We had a wonderful vacation here. The owner's were so friendly to work with and the "welcome bucket" was a very nice touch! The home was clean, nicely decorated and had a well equiped kitchen. The bathrooms were a bit smaller than expected but everyone loved the H/C outside shower. We would definitely recommend!

It will be hard to find a better value for a rental house than this one. We found the house to be everything the listing decribed, and more. The owners were wonderful to work with. The only drawback was not having an entrance to either bathroom from the common area. Other than that, we thought it to be an ideal house at a very reasonable rate. I would highly recommend!!
Owner response:Just saw your review. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this! I think it is our only review. I should encourage more guests to write one. So glad you were happy with Windrift!
