1. The Hammock House = OPEN & BRIGHT large two bedroom home with full gourmet kitchen, large living room with vaulted ceiling and full bath. Upper level loft space looks out onto spacious living room below with many windows out to gardens. The two spacious bedrooms are on the upper level with one bathroom in the hall. First level has a gourmet kitchen and dining room that opens out to the spacious living room with two sofas, satellite TV, and even a guest double bed in one quiet section of this room Big outdoor patio with tables and chairs overlooking the gardens and a hammock swinging between two stately old cedar trees. This home sleeps 6-7 people comfortably in 2 queen beds, 1 double bed and 1 single bed. WIFI and Satellite TV!!!
2. The Cottage: Small 2 bedroom unit with full gourmet kitchen and a large patio with dining table and chairs. Two queen beds. Bathroom with tub and shower. This rental is perfect for one couple, a couple and a single, or 2 singles who each want a private bedroom. Perfect for people who love to cook their own simple to gourmet meals from scratch. Kitchen is compact, but totally complete with everything you need. Windows out to the gardens. A perfect space to stay a few nights or long term!

3. The Porch Suite: Small one bedroom unit with private bathroom. Many windows with lovely garden views. Wrap around porch and patio with tables and chairs overlooking gardens. Comes with small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. One queen bed. Perfect for a couple. WIFI DVD
All dogs are VERY welcome! Pet fee depends on size and breed. Very small dander free dogs start at $20 for your entire stay. Very large breeds are $75. Medium dogs are more reasonable. Thanks for your understanding!
All units have wifi, and free long distance telephones. Satellite TV in the two larger units with kitchens. Sorry, no satellite TV in the Porch Suite. But, there is WIFI and DVD players in all three of these rentals.

- Rent our older but very comfortable Lexus Sedan. Leave your car on the mainland. Walk on the ferry from Anacortes or fly directly to the Friday Harbor Airport from Seattle. You will have use of our car for your San Juan Island vacation at only $25 per day. For guests who are staying one week, we will discount this to a flat $125 for the week. You must have your own insurance, copy of your driver's license, and you are required to leave the gas tank filled, the same as you will receive the car.

My husband and I live in Friday Harbor and we booked the "Cottage" unit for friends who were visiting the island over the weekend. The unit was lovely and the property secluded - yet only a five minute walk into town. The unit has two separate rooms, and is at the rear of the property, so it was very peaceful and quiet. There is a sweet little kitchen as well as a beautiful deck overlooking a lovely garden that we enjoyed meals on. Everything was fresh and clean and there were plenty of little extra touches (like fresh flowers) to help make our friends' stay comfortable. I would recommend this property for anyone looking for a nice, quiet spot to get away and enjoy San Juan Island!

for the price it was not nearly as nice as other properties I've stayed in. VERY old and musty smelling, we had to buy 3 air freshners just to stand being in this 'house'. There were cob webs in the corners and just all around tacky from knitted rug throws to the wall patch being primed instead of painted. The photos are not accurate - but then the house in split into 3 separate units. I felt deceived for the price she advertises for. Their 'no leaving dogs unattended' was not followed by a renter that we shared a wall with - we had to complain because their dog was yapping non-stop so the owner was forced to call them. However there was a miscommunication between the owner and myself and the owner was just plain defensive and angry which resulted in no solutions for 5 minutes while she just made me repeat myself until she understood. Her reply was 'I thought you were a dog person'. Does being a dog person mean automatically accepting of a loud barking dog when you're trying to retire to bed? I was shocked there wasn't a TV or Internet, but told her that we rented a movie to watch before falling asleep. She said to me 'well, maybe after you watch your movie you'll be in a better mood'. Who says stuff like that to a renter paying a lot of money per night? On Friday when we called her she said she was ready to give back all of my money if I just left. I asked her where I'm supposed to go at 9 pm. She says very sarcastically 'you take the ferry back to the other side and find accommodations there'. Well, she knew very well that it would be tough to find something that late and with our dog! But I did say 'I just spent $60 some dollars on the ferry - I'm not going back now' She says loudly and rudely 'what are you implying?' I didn't EVER think she should have to pay for my ferry - but she is obviously not a good business person and isn't good at solving issues. We had NO WiFi like advertised yet she said we could look for another place to go. I asked her how am I supposed to find something with no Internet and she said LOUDLY and matter-of-fact 'well you have a phone'. I asked her why she wouldn't have informed us if she knew the Internet wasn't going to be turned on - she gave some excuse and said it would be turned on on Saturday - which it wasn't either. It took us almost all day on Saturday to find a new place - which 1. we wasted a vacation day & 2. we had to pay her for 2 nights even though we only stayed one night. RUDE/UNACCOMMODATING
Owner response:As a proud homewoner owner and responsible businessperson, I would never wantonly deceive any of my customers. Everything about this property is as published on VRBO and my own website. In this case, problems arose because of internet issues beyond my control. I spent the better part of 6 hours on the phone that day with my ISP provider alerting them to the fact the internet was not working. They finally determined the problem was with their outside system and were unable to repair it until Saturday or Sunday (this guest arrived Friday afternoon). I received an irate phone call soon after check in asking where the wifi was, accusing me of "lying" about providing wifi and threatening to write a bad review 1 hour into the rental. I attempted to explain what had occured and how there was absolutely nothing I could do, expressed my apologies, informed her of where free wifi was available in town and offered a discount for the inconvenience. When asked, "how am I supposed to stay in touch with my children in an emergency!!!, I responded that the rental contained a working landline with free long distance, just in case her cell phone did not work, (which in fact she was talking on at that very moment). A few hours later another irate phone call alerted me to the fact that a dog was barking next door. After calling the neighbor, I followed up with the guest and sensing from our conversation her complete disatisfaction and offended by her rude, immature and accusatory nature, I offered to refund the complete payment so she could find alternate accommodations. She did not take up this offer, stayed the night and until the next evening-without even having the courtesy to inform me of her plans. Since I could not re-rent the home at that late hour, I followed my published cancellation policy and charged two nights. My homes are tastfully decorated and cleaned thoroughly before every rental. Every tenant is treated in a professional manner and the same is expected likewise. There are some customers who will never be pleased, who will always find something to complain about and who are hands down a complete nightmare for a hardworking small business owner. Short of providing miracles, there is absolutely nothing to be done.

Looking for a nice getaway from the city, we definitely achieved our mission. "We" meaning my 3 dogs and myself. Stayed in the Porch Suite, just right for us. Very comfortable and homey. I needed a place to relax, but where the dogs could enjoy themselves too. When I wasn't relaxing in bed, we were exploring the property, which was great. A lot of outside time, without leaving the property. It rained while we were there and was very relaxing sitting on the covered porch ... me watching the rain and the dogs playing in it. If it wasn't raining, we would have walked into town. It's close to everything. Shana is a very hospitable friendly host, and I appreciated that. I can't wait to experience some of her other properties! "WE" had a GREAT time. Totally recommend it. There are a couple of larger units on the same property, if there's more than you and your dogs.
