Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

Don and Jan Shields are tried and true Alaskans, having lived in the State for 33 years. We are avid hunters and fishers, and enjoy hiking, backpacking and camping, also. We team-teach a class of 5th and 6th graders at a private school in Soldotna. Looking at retiring, we purchased the property where Stillwaters Chalets sets in 2005. This has been a family project, with our adult children helping us build the chalets. We opened our first chalet in July of 2007. We enjoy our summers, sharing our wealth of information about the Kenai Peninsula with our guests who come from all over the world.

Why the Owner Chose Soldotna

Soldotna is the central hub of the Kenai Peninsula bordering the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. It is rich in wildlife. It also has the world famous Kenai River running through the city center. You can fish right from the bank or launch a boat and take to the waterways. Since we are outdoorsmen, what a better place to set up a vacation rental than in a place where others who enjoy Alaska's best will come to visit. Stillwaters Chalets are located within the city limits, only minutes from the Kenai River as well as other popular attractions.

The Unique Benefits of this Chalet

Stillwaters Chalets overlooks forests and a meadow where Soldotna Creek meanders on its way to meeting the world-famous Kenai River. The suite at Stillwaters is uniquely Alaskan, with log accents, while still providing the luxury accommodations our guests enjoy. After a busy day on the river, or a flight-seeing tour to view wildlife, come back and relax in the jet-air Jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom, while enjoying the fabulous Alaskan scenery. Only minutes from Soldotna, yet Stillwaters maintains its Alaskan wilderness appeal. Very peaceful and quiet. You will not be disappointed.
