Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
Don and Jan Shields are tried and true Alaskans, having lived in the State for 33 years. We are avid hunters and fishers, and enjoy hiking, backpacking and camping, also. We team-teach a class of 5th and 6th graders at a private school in Soldotna. Looking at retiring, we purchased the property where Stillwaters Chalets sets in 2005. This has been a family project, with our adult children helping us build the chalets. We opened our first chalet in July of 2007. We enjoy our summers, sharing our wealth of information about the Kenai Peninsula with our guests who come from all over the world.
Why the Owner Chose Soldotna
Soldotna is the central hub of the Kenai Peninsula bordering the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. It is rich in wildlife. It also has the world famous Kenai River running through the city center. You can fish right from the bank or launch a boat and take to the waterways. Since we are outdoorsmen, what a better place to set up a vacation rental than in a place where others who enjoy Alaska's best will come to visit. Stillwaters Chalets are located within the city limits, only minutes from the Kenai River as well as other popular attractions.
The Unique Benefits of this Chalet
Stillwaters Chalets overlooks forests and a meadow where Soldotna Creek meanders on its way to meeting the world-famous Kenai River. The suite at Stillwaters is uniquely Alaskan, with log accents, while still providing the luxury accommodations our guests enjoy. After a busy day on the river, or a flight-seeing tour to view wildlife, come back and relax in the jet-air Jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom, while enjoying the fabulous Alaskan scenery. Only minutes from Soldotna, yet Stillwaters maintains its Alaskan wilderness appeal. Very peaceful and quiet. You will not be disappointed.

WE have had an amazing week here at your place. The fishing has been excellent (5 kings - biggest 46 lbs) and so have the dinners outside on the terrace. Fresh king salmon on the barbeque together with baked potatoes is absolutely recommended. Thank you so much for your hospitality, and we hope to be back here someday!!!

Stillwaters is the perfect name for these chalets. Our stay here was quiet and restful. The furniture, pictures, flowers, kitchen, everything organized perfectly to reflect the strength of His presence. It was an excellent place for the beginning of our marriage. Thank you so much for your prayers. Truly, "He leadeth us beside still waters, and restoreth our souls." God bless.

Don and Jan, Thanks so much for a wonderful stay. The chalet was everything and more than I expected! So peaceful and beautiful. I can thank our Lord for guiding me to this piece of Heaven on Earth. My stay here has renewed my belief that everthin in life has a purpose, and the purpose of Stillwaters Chalets is to provide peace and happiness to all its guests. I will be back next year to renew my spirit. May God bless you Don and Jan. Y'all have a special think here. I will spread the word for everyone to come here! Thanks again for the time here.
