Livin' the Life
We truly enjoyed the quite neighborhood atmosphere of this property. It had fantastic accommodations and it is very close to the Kailua-Kona waterfront where we enjoyed most evenings strolling by the bay, taking in the sights, and relaxing in some of the local restaurants. The house is clean, comfortable, and has tons of amenities which saved us money and makes it much more convenient than having to eat out every meal or rent equipment at the beaches. This was our first time in Kona and I really enjoyed staying in this rental. I don't think I would do it any other way. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends.

A well appointed home with everything we could have possibly needed for our stay. The owners provided a book with pictures and directions to the places they recommended and they were right on. We walked from the home to Ali'i Drive, took a couple of yoga on the beach classes, went whale watching, snorkeling, boogie boarding and enjoyed the restaurants, shopping and entertainment. We highly recommend staying here and hope to stay again.

Fantastic stay in Kona
Fantastic stay in Kona
Five of us, all adults, took Kona Calm for a 16-day stay centered on whale watching, diving, photography/videography and painting. The moment we arrived at the property we were thrilled with our selection, everywhere was clean and well appointed. The house had been provided with all the daily essentials and the view across the bay was wonderful. Kona Calm is set in a particularly peaceful environment. The property stands on the edge of a well designed and modern housing estate with neighbours to the north but undeveloped land to the south. This area is rich in bird life and provides a delightful morning chorus. The large garage area, well equipped with hanging space and an adjacent fresh water hose, made the ideal location for cleaning and storing our wet gear. The owners, Nikki & Jeff - a delightful couple who were so easy to liaise with when establishing our rental - assured us that the surf boards, picnic chairs, etc in the garage were ours to play with as we wished. Wonderful! The kitchen, bedrooms, showers, bathrooms, etc, were all of very high quality making our stay a joy. The barbecue was a favourite in the evening, as we ate and watched the sun set across Kona bay. Of course, the house has air con but we did not find it necessary to use this; open windows with the fan running kept the property at a lovely temperature. Further, the cooler air at night combined with the ultra comfortable beds made for great sleeping. A short distance from the house are lots of spectacular views and a few quirky, out of the ordinary, experiences - such as the chocolate factory tour! Nikki and Jeff's 'house book' offers lots of good suggestions for visits to other interesting places. If you do not have access to a car, you can walk into town quite easily in 20-25 minutes. If you do so, you'll notice moving from the slightly cooler (higher altitude) climate around the house to the more humid conditions at sea level. The good thing is that the walk's almost all downhill :-) and a ride back up in a taxi is just $10-12. Being off of the main through-road in Kona (the Queen Kaahumanu Highway) makes for quick access to other locations. In previous years we have stayed on Ali'i Drive but we really noticed how much faster we could get to many of our favourite places from Kona Calm - including 'Kona Boat Rental' whose services allowed us to fully enjoy the fabulous local coastline. We really enjoyed our time in Kona Calm and would recommended the house to you.

great house, great location!
great house, great location!
We just returned from a 12 day trip and stayed at this wonderful home. It is spacious, clean, well equipped and nicely decorated- it gives you the feel of a resort without the crowds! The neighborhood is quiet and in close location to nearby beaches, grocery stores, touristy stuff on Ali'i drive. There is a nice park down the street if you have kids who need to burn off some energy. Our three year old loved that and wanted to go almost every day! We were sorry to leave and we will definitely be back to stay when we return to the Big Island. Thanks to the very nice owners.

The best house in Kona
The best house in Kona
There are so many good things to say, it's hard to find a place to start. First, the location is perfect. It's at the top of the hill at the end of a quiet cul de sac. If you have kids, there's a playground at the bottom of the hill that is close enough to walk to, but if you don't have kids, it's far enough away that you can't hear it. If you want to go for a run, step out the door and go. The house is maybe a 10 minute drive to a couple of beaches and Keauhou Bay where there's all kinds of stuff to do (google it). It's an $11 cab ride downtown where you'll find: bars (Huggo's - pretty view and Kona Brewery really fun), restaurants (LuLu's nacho's and Quinn's fish and chips are amazing), and shopping at the farmer's markets all within walking distance of each other. The house itself is amazing. Everything about it is awesome --- from the comfortable beds to the cool, Hawaiian decor to the relaxing ambiance of the whole tropical property. Yes, the pictures are accurate and yes, it was really clean and well maintained. The backyard, where we had dinner most nights, has an amazing view of the ocean and is remarkably private. I've stayed in other private rentals and hotels in Kona, but this house is by far my favorite.

About the owner: We are an active family of four that enjoys traveling and outdoor activities. We love visiting Kona and partaking of all it has to offer. We really like the small town feel of Kona and easy going pace that Hawaii is famous for. Lots of volleyball for us as well as outrigger paddling, fishing, surfing, swimming, snorkeling, soccer...etc.
Why the Owner Chose Other Kailua-Kona Properties:
We love the feel and pace of Kona. Not as urban as Oahu or Maui, so perfect for relaxing and still enjoying the best of Hawaii.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We are close to Keauhou Bay where snorkeling, outrigger paddling and volleyball can be found. Within 2 miles of downtown with lots of shopping and restaurants. Close to the airport. Perfect jumping off grounds for traveling around the Big Island.
