This is the place for making memories

Guest: Rachelgarden (Paso Robles, CA)
Date of Stay: 11/19/11 Review Submitted: 11/22/11

Up in the trees, no internet, no TV no phones who could ask for more. We enjoyed the solitude the comfort of using an old pattern not used these days....talking. I have been married to this fantastic man for 35years and sometimes its just to busy to talk we had the time and had a blast. The cabin was comphy and cozy and the weather (raining on and off) made the memory even better. We walked in the rain, we lunched at Post Ranch Inn. The whole weekend was fantastic.

Owner response:Dawn and Dan, so glad you enjoyed your stay, along with gentle rain and temporary WiFi outage ( it is fixed now!). Anniversary and birthday, a tribute from you both that you chose to spend it here, Embree.

My wife & I enjoyed several days here a few months before our twins arrived. So peaceful and just what we were after. The drive in and the views in the forest are amazing. The cabin was clean and had all we needed. We will be back! Thanks for the retreat.

Outside of Time

Everything that the reviewers said is true: quiet, beautiful, simple. Sitting on the porch, one cannot see one man-made structure. The sun filters through the trees at sunset, changing the light moment to moment. My husband and I come here for a spiritual retreat. Perfect for meditation, contemplation, writing, and reading.

Amazing stay

Guest: Jenn and Mike (St. Augustine, Fl)
Date of Stay: 05/27/11 Review Submitted: 06/16/11

We stayed at the cabin over Memorial Day Weekend and had such an amazing time. The cabin is equipped with every thing you could need and Embree was such a great hostess. We spent several sunsets on the roof deck which was spectacular. This is the perfect distance from everything, very quiet and private, yet an easy drive to the grocery store or the amazing Big Sur sites. The bed was so comfortable and the bath tub with a view just puts everything over the top.

Incredible Weekend at this Incredibly Unique Cabin!

Guest: J (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 05/06/11 Review Submitted: 06/11/11

My fiancée and I stayed here in Spring 2010 and had an amazing weekend of hiking in Big Sur. The cabin is completely unique, has everything you could need, and is an extraordinary value for the money. The owner has paid excellent attention to detail and creativity in the design. You have to see it for yourself. A great place in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I recommend it without reservation. We hope to go back!

Almost Heaven!

Guest: MarkSurfs (Cardiff)
Date of Stay: 05/01/10 Review Submitted: 05/30/11

John Denver had a thing for West Virginia, I have a thing for this little gem. Load up on groceries (and wine) and drive up through 2.5 miles of redwoods up to the cottage...I liked to turn on the heater and roll down the windows, staying warm and smelling the eucalyptus, multi-tasking Big Sur style. Once you get to the cottage, my girlfriend put it best when she said "Shut-up!" In this day and age where negative words can have a positive connotation, this meant she was speechless. Once inside the house, you will be awestruck by how much light the large windows provide...the kitchen/living area is one in the same, its really great to hook up the ipod, cook up some food, and hang out in the same area. This cottage has a ton of charming character and that isn't real estate agent talk for its going to take $40k in upgrades to make the place livable. The character comes from the fact that Embree, the owner, is a potter...not like Humboldt County, but she actually makes ceramic pots and cups and anything you can really think of, so there is a definite artistic sense to the dwelling. Walk right out through the kitchen and you will enter the bathroom, clawfoot tub, shower area. Again, plenty of light in here, ocean views, redwood foliage, a great place to get clean. My favorite part was the outdoor shower not because my girlfriend took it as a photo op, I won't post that here. However, there is something exceptionally envigorating to getting your morning scrubdown on in an outdoor shower...redwood shower curtains, this is the way our ancestors did it, and if you are looking for marble and tile, what are you doing in big sur? If you like the character, this is your horse. Finally, and I know this is long and you really just want to book the trip so you can see what I'm talking about. Around 930pm each night, the wine and food and book reading and hiking and such have been completed and its bed time. You brush your teeth, some people floss, I floss, put some peppermint oil on your temples and you wander up to the loft. You lie down on a super cloud soft goose down comforter and a thick mattress. You look up and there it is...a perfect 4x4ft skylight with more stars than you knew existed. You make an attempt to start counting, but before you can make it to 20, the lights are out and the next thing you know, its another day in paradise. Enjoy!!!

Absolutley incredible

This cabin is charming, comfortable, quiet, and set in the most amazing redwood canyon east of the ocean. Embree (the owner) was a great source of information and offered a very well stocked, clean, cozy place that I can't wait to return to. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted a perfect solo getaway to center themselves or create, and to any couples that want the ultimate honeymoon, private, romantic haven. We ate breakfast outside on the lower deck amidst the towering trees, and had drinks at night on the upper deck while viewing the stars. Hiking in Big Sur and along the coast is easily accessible and highly recommended. I felt like I was in another world...magical is too small a word, but the best way I can describe it. We've already made plans to return at the same time next year.

Great Little Getaway

Guest: Joe (Ventura, CA)
Date of Stay: 10/15/10 Review Submitted: 11/20/10

We stayed at the cabin over a drizzly weekend in October. The cabin was beautiful and private. I especially enjoyed the outdoor shower, skylight over the bed, and the owner's knowledge of the area. The details and character of the cottage made the experience unique. The location was close to all we ended up doing in the area. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone looking for a quiet retreat.
