The Willows is our three-bedroom cottage on 15 acres of forested hills and grassy lawn. It is one of seven units available at Bauer's Spruce Island Chalets. It was sitting between a spruce and a ponderosa pine when Maurice and Mildred Bauer bought the property in the late forties. They put it on logs and moved it nearer the creek, where it sits today.
While the exterior is original, the interior has been completely remodeled with modern bath and fully equipped kitchen. The large living room is focused on the granite rock wood-burning fireplace. It has a comfy leather sofa and easy chair, as well as side chairs and a futon. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds while the third bedroom accommodates two kids (or adults) in twin beds. The separate dining area seats six.
The Willows overlooks the grassy lawn to a vista of the high mountains to the east. It is one of six structures that make up Bauer's Spruce Island Chalets. So your family and friends can be accommodated in our other units. We are located on a relatively flat county road two miles from all Evergreen has to offer, but once you enter over the creek you feel like you're Far Away From It All.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1995
About the owner: After taking a ten-year detour to Southern California, we returned to Colorado in semi-retirement and thought vacation property would be a great adventure and a way to meet many wonderful people. My son and his family reside on an adjoining property so there is always someone around to offer assistance if required. Now I am a widow and continue to enjoy renting my cabin so others can enjoy the beautiful setting and peaceful days.
Why the Owner Chose Evergreen:
Evergreen is the perfect mountain residence: you really know you're in the mountains, but you're close enough to Denver and all it has to offer that your vacation activities are innumerable. Bauer's Spruce Island Chalets is only two miles from downtown Evergreen, but because it is a large property adjacent to Cub Creek Park on one side and across the road from forested public land you feel you're Far Away From It All. The few neighbors are hardly visible.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our vacation cabin is surrounded by forested hills but has a great lawn which is unique in the Evergreen area. It accommodates picnics, lawn games and wildlife viewing. The elk graze on the lawn, Deer feast on the shrubs, and they all frolic in the pond for a short bath before heading up the hill. Occasionally other wildlife will visit including fox and bear. Beautiful rock outcroppings add to the enjoyment especially for kids since no technical climbing ability is necessary. Our playground equipment and toddler toys offer another play option. Hiking in the adjacent park or any of 14,000 acres in Jefferson County is a great activity.
